I also have a business email if you need that go to my channel's about page. Remember keep it business only.
My experience of this game was finding it in an empty school locker in the 5th grade and thinking that it was crazy that it let you massacre the sand people tribe. What a time to be alive.
Ahh, so that was YOU who stole my GBA copy of Lego Star Wars back then! I was distraught when I went to my locker that day only to find it missing and my mom gave me a stern lecture afterward about not bringing my Gameboy Advance to school with me. :P
@@Aspi3Gam3r bruh i’m so sorry. If I knew where it was I’d mail it to u
@@TacosAreWizardim sure he was joking
@@SlavicUnionGaminghe’s right, I was there buddy, I’m the locker
@@Aspi3Gam3rcan confirm; I was the principal
Always found it weird how they used the wrong versions of characters for episodes
Episode I Obi-Wan fighting Episode II Anakin on Mustafar is so delightfully cursed.
It's hilarious how the final duel is a duel between Padawans 😂
its funny that you actually get to massacre the tuskens
The "cheat codes" for this game were fun. The ones I always used changed the lightsaber color to black or yellow, or let you play as a character not on the free play roster like General Grievous or a battle droid on a speeder.
Bro holy fuckk you just made me remember cheat code books and how I was a crack fiend for them as a young child before I knew how to surf the internet or it was t available information on there
Litterally one of the first games i ever owned, before seeing any star wars films it was quite a weird trip with no idea what the story was about. Sunk 100s of hours in and had all the cheat codes written down
Omg seeing the kashyyk level with yoda brings back some really frustrating memories I swear I remember that level being so hard for no reason
Bro sounds like Hank Hill.
This is one of the first video games I ever beat 100%. Played it a ton in the car when I was like 5-6 years old
This was my first lego star wars game. I remember darth vader was 25000 studs to unlock and it took me so long to get him.
Funny you mention levels leaving out important parts of the story, because the Skywalker Saga levels do too. How regressive.
It's actually kind of sad that the skywalker saga has more in common with games like these and lego indiana jones 2 than actual good lego games like the complete saga.
I think it's interesting how R4-P17 is incorporated into the Utapau missions alongside Obi-Wan, even though in terms of the movies, R4 was destroyed by the Buzz Droids in the Battle of Coruscant. But I guess it makes sense since they didn't wanna implement whatever other Astromech Droid Obi-Wan had for Utapau (I believe R3 something) since R4 was more well known anyways.
That is true, I guess since they didn't really mention the Battle over Coruscant they where able to get away with putting him back in.
@@Nostalgic9080 I believe R4 is actually a female droid.
R4-G9 was the utapau droid
Fun fact: there are cheat codes that allow you to play as other characters, change your lightsaber color, and view all cutscenes.
This was how I found out that Anakin is Darth Vader
This was actually one of the first ever video games I owned as a kid. I easily sunk at least 50 hours into it. Eventually I played the regular version when I finally got a ps2 but this one has a special place in my heart. I also think the gba port of lego star wars 2 is a vast improvement to this one, I recommend checking it out! I think its done by the same studio too.
I remember the jump from lego sw on gameboy to Battlefront on PS2 😮 such an experience!
This and the sequel on the GBA were my first Lego games. I emulated it years ago. I found this one really boring years ago, but it was fun enough for me to finish all of the episodes. I do remember the sequel being better in every way.
Having this game for my 9th birthday, purchasing the strategy guide for what turned out to be the console version was my first real experience with the differences in ports -
“What do you mean jar jar can’t attack? Yes he can”
“What do you mean the blue stud is the most valuable?”
“What do you mean there’s more than 15 characters?”
I loved this game. Spent many hours and yes, years playing it over and over. Thank you for the nostalgia… love your channel!!
Thanks glad you enjoy!!
This was a gba game I played a ton as a kid, I really wanted it and still have my original copy, the oldest game from childhood I still have. I was bummed it didn’t have vehicle missions but I still enjoyed playing it. Never liked the isometric camera angle though as it made some platforming difficult. Nowadays I find it hard to go back to, but I still like having the game around
Only vehicle we could ever use was that secret character unlock for the droid on that stand-up hover bike thing.
Not only was this my 1st Lego game this was also my 1st star wars game. And from there on I became hooked on star wars games. My 7 year old brain thought this was the greatest game ever until the OT came out and then eventually TCS on DS 😅
I grew up owning this version of the game and I love it and have fond memories of it, I’ll never forget the feeling when I beat it 100% I still have it somewhere around my room.
Loved this game so much as a kid. Thought it was cool how it covered different material than the console version, especially the fact they rendered a few new "cut scenes"
There are so many interesting little quirks that I can't help but love it.
Have very vague memories of the old hand held Lego games and I remember how weird they were.
Lego Indiana Jones 2 was the weirdest
I just remember comparing them to the console games and being mad at how much harder/ confusing they were
This game was a favorite among my brothers and friends. There was something about isometric movie tie-in games, like this, the second Lego Star Wars, and the Narnia game (which you could play through the entirety of with your friend!) Replaying this game reminds me of when Episode III came out and light-up lightsaber minifigs were the rage
I never finished this game. I was recording parts parts for a Let's Play, but only made it to chapter 2 of Episode III. I think my biggest frustrations have to do with the parts where you controlled R2-D2. Those sections were brutal.
Some info on Griptonite. They were an independent developer studio that was absorbed by Amaze in 2006. Amaze would then be acquired by Foundation 9. Foundation 9 reinstated Griptonite Games in 2008, and Amaze merged with them in 2009. In 2011, they were sold to Glu Mobile, which was bought by EA in 2021. Whether or not the studio is still around is unknown to me.
11:37 fun fact: these animations are in he console versions of lsw1 and were supposed to be the death animations, you can see them being used in prototype footage
OHMYGOD YODAS LAUGH MADE ME SPIT OUT MY DRINK
I love this video cause I like hearing other people talk about LEGO games, and yeah Yoda laugh is weird
I actually bought Lego Star Wars 2 for the DS recently because of your review and honestly Im enjoying it.
I do believe I have the patched version because many of the bugs you mentioned arent in the game but other than that the weirdness of it gives it its own charm.
Holy crap though the Hoth battle's skybox draw distance is horrible
Wow I didn't know there was a patched verison
I had this game as a kid, and I played the heck out of it.
Recall this was the first version of the OG Game I could play at the time because I recall when it was being promoted, it was only available on PS2, Xbox and GBA, but not Gamecube until I think a while later. One of the fondest memories O had was playing the Utapau stage and finding out that General Grievous was being recognized as canon in the main films. My mind was blown, because I thought it wasn't possible. And yeah, every characer only haveing one model was weird to me, especially because in Episode 3, you have Episode 1 Obi-Wan fighting againstvEpisode 2 Anakin in Mustafar. Weird choice they did, but was neat.
Man I loved this game so much. I 100% it more times than I can remember.
It was cool to see how the levels were laid out on different platforms, but some didn't work that well...
I used to wonder about Qui-Gon's seemingly random special ability until I was rewatching TPM and realized he's actually doing a Jedi mind trick.
Lego Star Wars 2 on gba was a weird one. Would be a good video
I saw this game in the skill crane type of machines, and I always wondered "how will they fit a 3D action game fit in a GBA?"
Wow. This brings back memories. I think this might be the first game I ever owned.
This brings back memories for me. I had my modded Gameboy Advance and I played this version on my TV.
Thank you for this man. I got so much nostalgia from the gameplay 🙌🏽
You can break the Maul fight by tricking him into getting stuck on the hole in the center and using your lightsaber throw. I felt so clever figuring that our as a kid.
LEGO Star Wars 2 for the GBA was the first physical videogame I ever had, and I got it for Christmas along with my first console, a Game Boy. It was either 2005 or 2006. My parents also bought me the strategy guide, without realzing it was for the console version only. Still, I read it cover to cover just for the entertainment.
Nice I'm about to make a video about that game
i used to watch my cousins play this and pokemon on their gameboy back in the day. so nostalgic even tho i literally never played and just watched. such a interesting game. i played the og games on console and just always wanted to try playing this version.
One of my earliest memories is getting my hands on my older brother's GBA and erasing his save file for either this game or lsw2. I believe I was about two years old at the time. To this day I have no idea how or why I did it.
I've realized from myself doing the same thing to my uncle with his original Xbox that small children just magically come out of the womb with the knowledge to delete video game saves on other people's consoles.
I forgot about the GBA Lego games. I remember putting tons of hours into both. I really liked the way the lightsabers looked in the first game for some reason, and Qui-gon was my favorite character because he could sneak around.
The first game I ever owned. Still have it to this day, save and all. It was so unbelievably fun for nine year old me to play. Fuck the haters, I loved this game.
Bro same. I got this as my first when I was just 2yo on GBA and it kept me so occupied 🤣 Totally forgot about it all
I remember when I was a kid I got this game as a birthday gift before I had watched the prequels so I was very confused about what was happening and who everyone was lol
I remember finding out about these games on rom sites and I tried the 2nd one and it was alright. Crazy they even attempted to put these games on the GBA
It shouldn't really be due to GBA limitations that characters only use one sprite. Like, these should be stored in read-only memory, and a GBA cartridge should have plenty of room to contain hundreds of sprites like these, even if they come with enough frames to support several different smooth animations. I think it's more likely that the budget wasn't there.
Likewise, some of these cutscenes seem to use images that only enable one 16-colour palette to be used per 8x8 tile. GBA has a 256-colour mode which allows you to pick from that many colours for each pixel allowing for far higher quality images. The person who implemented these images might have not known about it.
GBA is far less limited than people might think. This game just doesn't come close to the limits that GBA does have.
You forgot to talk about the cheat codes! You get to play as so many characters and it allows you to use more than just 1 extra character in the freeplay mode
Qui-Gon had many uncommon Force abilities, but turning invisible was not one of them.
I think it was fun as a kid and it provided a decent challenge. I liked that it was different from the consoles in some ways. It was my first gba game, and I still have it.
It definitely played better than any of the GBA ports by Destination Software/DSI Games.
I forgot I played this! Thanks for bringing back the memories!
"Nobody's asking for handheld ports anynore." Definitely not in the same volume, but a number of Switch port studios have cropped up in the last few years!
Interesting going to have to check them out
When i reed GBA, the first thing that came to my head was song by FGFC820 titled G.B.A. (probably shortcut for God Bless America)
I was so addicted to this game back then, i had a huge itch for starwars legos and this did well to get that itch. I spent hours trying different inputs to find secret codes so I could write them down (i still got the code sheet I made decades ago), some codes I think code sites have yet to add. Found secret characters or visual/audio manipulations and even different lightsaber/blaster colors, I was using the darksaber before I knew what a dark saber was lol.
I only played lego star wars II on the GBA, but that one actually had a hub world!
Thank you, Hank Hill, this was a nice video and I think I shall subscribe
I remember playing this game for countless hours to unlock Jango Fett only to find out that he really sucked, he can only “fly” as high as you’re able to jump in a stage and it was really easy to soft lock yourself in certain levels for some reason.
Great videos! 😊 neat history
Obi-Wan staying young throughout the whole trilogy is really weird.
I played through this a year ago, the part where you are Episode 3 Yoda just taking down waves of enemies and turrets on Kashyyyk was miserable
The 2nd game is actually pretty damn well done though.
I got this and the GameCube version for my birthday in 2005, Revenge of the Sith came out the same week as my birthday. I remember beating the GBA version in one day.
Griptonite's track history isn't the worst all things considered. They made a set of decent turn based RPGs for the Harry Potter series as well
also this is more related to lsw2 gba than lsw1 but i remember there being a youtube channel called pingblinggames and i think that's where i found out about the gba versions, channel's been gone since but i remember the pfp being either a character from the matrix with a warped mouth or gabe newell with sunglasses and a warped mouth
This was my childhood! A stressful childhood! But a childhood nonetheless!
I remember having this as a kid. It was tedious as hell. lego star wars 2 was significantly better
I remember going to the store to get Star Wars Episode 3 for the GBA, but my mom told me I couldn't since it looked "too violent". Was really weird since I had Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS2) at home, but apparently that GBA game was too much to handle? Instead she said I could get the this lego one instead. It was just alright. Not great, not terrible.
This was the first Lego Star Wars game I ever played. Got it in a weird way; during a field trip I swapped my copy of the Spongebob Movie GBA game (which was genuinely great, made by Wayforward) for his copy of this, and we forgot to swap back so uh, whoops. Ended up getting the GBA Lego Star Wars II later that same year which made the first one feel like some alien bootleg by comparison lmao
I covered this game on my channel not quite two years back, and I can agree with everything you said here. I even also called it "Weird" right up front in the title, and even also used the same shot from the console game to open my video, which was hilarious to see all happen again here in yours, too. Keep up the hard work, my dude!
Thanks going to have to watch your video
Oh yea I've seen that video before. I went around and watched a few videos to make sure i didn't miss anything in mine and yours was one of them. Great Video!!
@@Nostalgic9080 That makes sense! In that case, glad I could help!
@@BaneShake the intro part was a coincidence though
@@Nostalgic9080 It's simply a great shot to open with
i loved this game, lego star wars for DS was really wired
"It's a LEGO game. It's not supposed to be that challenging."
I couldn't agree more with this quote. I just wish whoever was responsible for the crimes against LEGO that were the LEGO Movie video game on the 3DS and the even worse LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game also on the 3DS. Not if but when you die in one of those games, you have to restart the level, and there are these "optional" challenges in every level that give you gold bricks. Except after every three levels, if you're total number of gold bricks isn't high enough, you can't play the next level until you get more gold bricks from the levels you've already unlocked. LEGO Star Wars 2 may have been the worst DS game (I don't have enough of a comprehensive list to have an opinion on that claim one way or the other), but it can't have been worse than the two games I just mentioned for the 3DS because it was like LEGO games forgot how to make LEGO games. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes was even worse because every level had a single character in story mode, and even in free play mode, you could only use a team consisting of that same character and one other character of your choice. Those games don't even give you extra hearts to use. It's especially insulting when you consider that they were made during roughly the same time frame as LEGO Lord of the Rings for the 3DS which was the best LEGO game on a handheld (excluding the Switch which is technically both a console and a handheld).
I loved this game when I was a kid.
I LOVED this game as a kid. The ps2 version was one of the first games I ever played, and i adored this version too, i loved the different levels and always wanted them added to the complete saga, haha
Same!
I remember playing the Xbox version as a kid and when I saw the gba version I was so excited I had it bought for me, just to be so confused as to why it didn’t look and play like the console version, being around 5 was fun 😂
This video is one that I can watch again and again
I'm glad you enjoy it!!
@@Nostalgic9080This game is similar to monsters Inc
I really hope the algorithm starts hitting your videos more consistently, so you get the views you deserve.
This was the first video game I ever owned, and I loved every second
I think qui gon jinn has invisible ability is because he did that in the Star Wars books
I remember I had nightmares after playing the game. And I killed them all. Not only the men. But the women. And the children too.
i remember playing the gba versions on 8bbit's gba website (cant remember the name rn) when i was 10
Griptonite did Chamber of Secrets on GBA, which I loved when I was younger.
I remember this game being really good for GBA of course it’s not as good as the console game. One of my favourite GBA games as a kid
Dang it bobby pick up that gosh darn minikit
3:44 wth are those super battle droids green, i guess shrek spit on them
I know that was super weird
This was the first Lego game I owned. I loved it growing up and played the crap out of it
This looks way better than what I was expecting when I clicked on this video. Idk why but this is the most convincing “”3D graphics”” I have ever seen on the gba.
This guy almost sounds like Hank Hill
I love your content dude, i wish you luck
Thanks
Reminds me of the Spyro games on GBA.
This thing was a goddamn miserable time.... I was so disappointed when I tried it, I never finished it
I can't believe I sank so much time into this.
My gosh this game was....one of the games of all time lol
Who would ever of thought that obi wan would go to a cave in the GBA version and not the console ;)
I know I don't think he even went there in actual canon
You have to do the review for LSW2 on GBA. It fixed all the issues with this game and made the gameplay closer to the console versions.
I deffintley plan on doing that eventually
I love the death checkpoint system it made me strategize to beat the levels.
The cheat codes really made this game
I remember having this and playing it on 1 of the 1st Nintendo dsi models, especially remember the tusken slaughtering part..
Not sure if it was that small square Nintendo game or a Gameboy cartridge since the dsi could fit both
