Make the nest box much harder to get in, maybe add wing nut locks because Raccoons WILL get in. There is also weasels which are also super smart. I raised many thousands of birds and learned a few unfortunate lessons.

My grandmother raised her own chickens and she always said, "Snakes won't go where Geraniums grow". She had Geraniums all around her chicken coop. Big black snakes would go where she kept her corn for her chickens to eat but didn't go in the coop. Just passing on a little knowledge from the past that worked for my grandmother.
They also don't like lemongrass nor tobacco leaves 👍

Hey guys!!! My parents have a 36 acre farm down the road from ya'll! 499 King Rd...in case your blueberries don't produce this year she has more than all five of her kids can eat! LOL Go over there ANYTIME for blueberries or fishing in the pond! There land is next to their good friends Melanie and Paul (owners of Basic Fit). BeWARE my mom will try to feed you. Her fridge is always stocked full of fresh organic veggies, fruits, nuts, almond flour, you name it, she has it. So if you need to borrow a cup of something...their names are James and June Dishman 86 and 75 years young and they will have a full garden this year too! Sorry for the long comment...so glad yall are back in towN!

I live in East Tennessee and I have to worry about fox racoons hawks owls etc. My poor little hens and roosters. I have a coop they go in at night with electric around it. Then I have an automatic door that lets them out in the daylight I love those fresh eggs.
My chickens have a chicken run where it’s totally enclosed and the wire is buried so no critters get to them at night. I just let them roam for the day and they come back to the coop at night

When we planted trees we drew a schetch of the area and write name of all the trees so we knew what they were. Just a hint.

Make sure you have some type of cover outside for the hens to run and hide under. Even then they are not fast enough sometimes.. Hawks, owls will swoop in. Once the predators are successful they won't stop. The foxes will go right through that temp fence, even during the day. Just make sure you accept the circle of life 😊

Looks like you have a really nice piece of property there. It will really look really beautiful spring into summer. I miss hilly land. I live in Florida and you know how flat and boring that can be. You will love it there, I’m sure.
Your trees need tree protectors (little fences) if you have deer. And any raccoon worth his salt can climb up the side of that shed to get into the nest box. But all that is the fun of starting to farm...
I figured if you have water for drinking and showers/bath, toilet, power for fridge & deep freezer, heat, stove/bbq, pillows/bedding + beds, cell phones/computer/internet set up... then all the rest is just extras.
Wow....im just seeing this video. The house is beautiful...and it looks like lil beckett has a hell of a lil set up. His bed is so unique ...big!! Looks like the "fur babies" love his bed as well..lol...i love ur decor...
I'd be eating those persimmons when they ripened and fell off the tree. The chickens can't have them all. On another note, float your bedside tables from the wall. That way you don't have to find so narrow tables to fit in that space.

When we lived in the country, fox loved our persimmon tree.. and running around our daughter's swing set.

Ms. Lewis I am so sorry to hear you lost your home. HE has a plan for you that's EVEN BETTER and I have added you to my prayers! My boys and I were homeless in drop dead frigid midwest living in an old parking garage. Through GOD and BARTERING plus a LOT of sweat equity in lieu of money, we are living on our own burgeoning homestead in the much-warmer South. Teaching graciousness, farming, planting, praying for our own chickens and coop so I know my boys will at least have eggs and produce when GOD takes me. Such a BLESSED RELIEF to dream ahead and to be able to TEACH our own children REAL LIFE. Hugs to you! It DOES get better!!!!

You guys are doing a good thing. Theirs going to be a food shortage. You will be prepared. My Church has a sheep herd and Llamas. They are planting a orchard. Teaching the young ppl how to grow gardens and how to can food....its awesome to see old ways coming back.
The things we clean with and wash with and burn can effect our thyroids I'm in process of ridding myself of these products. I feel a lot better on Keto diet. Im going to try to go Carnivore. My joints aren't hurting me as bad on Keto. I could barely walk without crying my sister has the same diease she is now on Keto after just a few days she was like a tanzanian devil cleaning running around LOL she said praise God! I'm not hurting I can move we started to cry... I can imagine how good I will feel as I make the transition from low carb to no carb. Its saved my life. Thank you Dr Ken Berry and beautiful Neshia also Two fit docs are good ppl. He just battled throat cancer like a Boss!

I grew 40 blueberries in Massachusetts. Early midseason and late. I had so many 3 families used them. After establishing I would prune 1/3 of the oldest wood. Every year I had a tremendous crop.

Looks like you did what I did...put our son(s) to sleep on a double bed as they will grow really tall quick enough, and, if needed, I could sleep beside him. Then I got rest too.

If you're going to be doing things like canning and making preserves out of the blueberries then what you want is for them to be ripe all at once, not piecemeal over the course of the season. you'll spend your entire summer processing blueberries instead of getting it done all at once. And then you have a few that are all season long so that you can eat seasonal fresh berries all summer.
