Hey Professor Gustavo, Thank your for the awesome vid, two things came to my mind while watching: 1.) The tripod sweep in my experience is so beautiful and can be so strong, that sometimes even when they lean forward you can still make them sit on their butt with it. 2.) I don't remember exactly why but I was talking about the transition from single leg x to x guard with my head coach. He basically told me not to overcomplicate things and go for the single leg x game (sweep) and don't try to showboat with switching to x guard from it. If I do switch to it however I have a different grip on the leg, it is not on my shoulders, but in the armpit since I'm still holding the same grip I had in the single leg x. From here the tripod sweep still available but I do think that my options are more limited, for example I don't think I can do the sweep shown in the video nor I can go and try to take the back which I could go for from the x guard position shown in the video. My question would be do you think there's a point going to x guard from single leg x, or most of the time it's just not worth it? Thank you! :) Gabor
I would transition from SLX to X-guard when my opponent is defending the SLX well and I can't get anything going. First moving my hooks from SLX to X-guard and still trying to do the tripod sweep as you've mentioned. If he leans forward defending the tripod sweep and I'm running out of options, I would switch my grip to over the shoulder to a classic X-guard like in the video, which would open some new possibilities. I cover all these options on my course: ashigaramifundamentals.com/
Very good detail Professor. Osss! 🥋
Glad you like it David! Happy Thanksgiving.
