That snare! It sounds like a shotgun mixed with a bit of the St Anger Metallica Snare. Nu Metal ringy but so beefy and thick.

Bryan said in a podcast recently they’re heavily experimenting with background sounds and crazy stuff going on behind everything. He said they didn’t do this in the past bc they wrote to play live and didn’t know how to incorporate what they wanted to do in a live setting. This album, they said screw if, we are going to go crazy and experiment and worry about the live stuff later. Pretty cool
