Even more allotment drama.. we have an issue with our plot neigbour that we arent sure how to solve! We also get on with some april/may jobs, like planting out brassicas (finally!)

Weed killer should never be used on an allotment site. Weeding is part of having an allotment. You weed for yourself, and your neighbours. And if everyone weeds, that will cut down on the weeds. Weed killer is a lazy option, and it kills all crops. You must speak to your committee. Weed killer will effect everyone.

With oinions when they start to swell up remove the soil from around the oinion just run you finger around the edge and this helps them even further to swell and you'll get bigger oinions

Talk to your neighbour, find out what issues they have and express yours, if they have an allotment they should be versed in how life grows and be mindful of your way too... might become friends or to the death enemies, but a chat is the first port of call because not knowing where theyre at or what they are doing will wreck your head and get yiz up to a wrong start

Amazing how fast watering becomes the main issue instead of too much rain. It’s such a shame we have to net so many things because there’s nothing nicer than seeing all the love.y green growth, but needs must. Ted looks like he’s enjoying the sunshine 🌞 our dog loves sunbathing 😂. Have a super week, Ali 🌤️🥶🇨🇦

I don't mind Sam working in the background while you're talking. It's not too loud of anything at all for me. For me it just goes along with homestead life with things being worked on and getting projects done.

For my squash’s, I put a few terracota pots in the ground and fill it with water for the really hot periods. Will save having to do a trip every day. If you get the cheap ones from b&q and just plug the hole with bathroom sealant, keeps the cost down.
Also, I would definitely mention something about the weed killer. If it’s not in the rules maybe you could say if you do, please ensure you cover that area straight after. I find when you give people alternatives, they are far more likely to help. I know you shouldn’t have to and it must be really annoying! I hope you manage to get it sorted!

If those are brassicas under that net Emma get some butterfly netting for that bed or you end up infested with whitefly .Enviromesh is great for carrot and onion fly but not so great for brassicas ..❤ the pink pipes 😄If you can fill those potato bags to the top .The potatoes will grow up just fine 🙂
I would report him to the committee or the council that run the allotment. Rather that having directly conflict. Pls don't let it put u both off. Best of luck!

Water, water, and it is twice a day, in the end put a tub in the glasshoue to ensure there was water available instantly.

I would see what the rules about weed killer are, if not allowed, report them. If it is allowed maybe talk to your neighbor and explain your issue and then offer to weed their area for them.

Were banned from using any weedkiller or non organic fertilisers on our allotments.

If I remember from previous chats you are now a committee member, during a meeting could you not voice your concerns and it could become one of the rules not to use weedkiller.
There is a meeting this month - I think I’ll raise it then !🧡
Ok imagine this. If you have a few bird boxes. No one complains. Have a bug hotel. And no one complains. Put in an ECO-BEEHIVE a nest box for honeybees and all hell brakes loose!! All the narcesistic jobsworth cicos come puffing and waving fingers!! 😅
I was told someone got kicked off our plots for having a bat box 😂 the drama! 🧡
If there's nothing against using weedkiller in the allotment rules, it probably is a bit hard to do anything about it. I think you should be ok (other than the annoying weed seed blow over).
Astro turf is horrendous... I find it baffling that people who want to do gardening want to have anything to do with it.
Good luck with your pumpkins. I have had (excessive) success with butternut pumpkin two years in a row now but after making a number of pumpkin pies I decided to look up what sort of pumpkin is normally used in them and found the variety... then... naturally... went online and tracked down where I could get some seed and bought them (and some flowers to go with the order).

Yeah we’ll see how we get on, annoying but not sure how much we can do about it! Haha I’m so excited for pumpkins!!! I’ve never actually eaten a pumpkin though, but there’s a first for everything 😁🧡
@@HouseOfTedYT there are quite a few different varieties of pumpkin so if you don't like the one you've grown it could be the variety... I never used to like pumpkin but it was brought to my attention that my mum used to get a poor quality now we grow butternut and it's quite nice.
All the wheat we eat has been sprayed with weed killer.
I do understand that! But I have my allotment so that I can grow stuff myself organically - as do many other plot holders on our site 🥲
You need to top those beds up with compost or else nothing will thrive. That soil is very poor
We have done no dig for the beds at the back of the plot - but we didn’t have enough compost or manure for the beds at the front! 😂👩🌾

If there’s no rules and u don’t see him it might be worth saving up for a fence of ur allowed fences to help with any splashing on to ur plot , I’m so glad my plots a private one because these things would cause me daily anxiety 😂
Another problem with our allotment - we’re not allowed fences 😂 at least not without permission from the committee 🧐 very annoying! The dream is to just have a lovely massive garden 😂🧡
Omggggg 😂😂😂 we had a council plot but lost it three months in because it was in such a state we didn’t want to touch it till the summer 😂 might have been a lucky escape 😂😂😂

You need to report it to the committee and explaine your concerns what I don't understand is why have allotment plot if they not prepared to put the work in in taking care of it

I would be super annoyed, to be honest. I have an allotment for growing organic produce, and those nasty chemicals will indeed leach into your soil. Please have a word with the committee. I'm sure they would be okay with using weed killer if applied directly to one plant with a brush for example, but not to the entire plot; that is absolutely disgusting. I don't understand people who do that sort of thing.

@@HouseOfTedYT Bring it up before the meeting so that you can discuss it and request to be included in the rules. Then, during the meeting, everyone will vote on it.
What’s the point in using weed killer surely part of the reason we have allotments is so we know there’s no poison in or on our veg!
Sorry to disagree with so many of the comments but at times weed killer is a god send. and there are so many types.including some where you can plant where it has been used in acouple of days.or how about the ones that kill weeds in lawns but not the grass.and as a retired gardener I should know.and as one of the commentators stated what do you think farmers use? so don't get disheartened and when you get into your allotment and shut the gate your in your own little world.
I do understand! I don’t have a problem if it is localised to their plot of course, I was just worried about it blowing over. Time will tell anyway!🧡

I’d be passive aggressive as hell and ask; my! Ur plot looks amazing! No weeds! How did you do it?! My little organic plot is just weeds weeds weeds! Then you get ur answer as to herbicide or no and get a point across

I thought you had a lot of common sense Emma until I saw you wearing a white top gardening 🤣. I think you should speak to someone re weedkiller use on the plot next to yours as it won't be just your plot it will affect will it.

You should not use weed killer on your plots . Go and ask him and if he as he should be put off

I use steam to kill the weeds in my garden. I don't know anyone else that does it. It works great.

Weedkiller only blows when spraying goes on. Wont harm your plot now that it's down.
Yes we were worried it will have blown over when he sprayed and gone into our soil :(
Weed killer can travel through the ground and cause damage.
We had an elderly gentleman who weed killed his grass and shrubbery...constantly for about three years.
During a heavy rain..the water drained through my property and killed one of my trees.
For a long time nothing grew in that spot.🥀🪴
Plus all the good worms , hedgehogs, bees and their helpful friends!

Fences are really discouraged on our site! It would also cause a lot of shade on the plot too
If your neighbour is not working the ground he should be given notice to quit or garden.IF he's using WEEDKILLER which is a BIG NO NO then the committee should without a doubt get on to him ASAP He souunds like a totall A......
I’m going to bring it up at the committee meeting but not sure I have a leg to stand on as I don’t remember anything about chemicals in the rules :(
Unfortunately there is a 'Nigel' at every allotment.

Put a sign on the weed-sprayed allotment explaining why it's a bad idea and how it affects other people. Not like a big sign, just something stuck in the ground and covered with a plastic bag in case it rains. They won't know who put it there. If they ask you about it you can say someone put one on your allotment also, and a few others.

Plug plants are not cheating. You still have to care for the plants.

i WOULD ASK THE NEIGHBOR IF HE USED WEED KILLER, and see how they respond, if they are ugly just say i will treat you exactly like you treat me- do you understand me? People will only treat you the way let them. im not in the UK, SO I DONT KNOW OR UNDERSTAND Uk laws so do what is best for you.
I think some people on site do use weed killer - not great but not much I can do about it as there’s no rules against it 😬
