Had my icon new since 2019. Done 35000 km so far, I'm based in Asia. I've done everything on it. Commute about town ( Hanoi) every day, done offroading up on the Ha Giang loop( look it up) .Even did a one day blast 14 hours from Hoi An to Hanoi. Fantastic bike. Love mine .
Out of the all modern scrambler designs, this Nightshift is the sexiest one. I can’t stop admiring it and it makes me feel like jump right onto it and take off.
I think the icon is great, its a pure scrambler style bike, comfy, strong midrange and corners well, de handlerbars are oldschool, better go for the trident instead of the nightshift if you want more road focused
Great comparison vid. I was considering the icon but got the 2020 Street Twin instead. No regrets with my Bonny but there’s just something about the Scramblers…
I'd get the regular Icon and customize the heck out of it. My biggest gripe with the Nightshift (besides those goofy looking side panels) is the spoked and tubed wheels on the Nightshift. They might look cool, but I hate running tubes on a street bike. I'd get the cheaper Icon, and use the savings to customize it and make it look the way I want it to!
@@Nick-Gye You get a puncture with a tube and it's a major hassle to fix. If you're tubeless you can atleast plug it to get home. I've also heard that a puncture on a tube is more likely to cause a crash because it's such a sudden failure, whereas with tubeless alot of times you just get a slow leak.
Hey Motobob, love your vids, keep ‘em coming! @3:47 small correction, there IS phone connectivity via the Ducati Multimedia System (an optional accessory) Once installed it actually lets you do quite a few things to be honest (except for visual turn by turn navigation, you only get the audio instructions). Unfortunately Ducati doesn’t publicize it that much, so many people don’t know it exists!
Thanks Motobob, great comparison. I like sitting up around town so while the Night looks and sounds cool, I would want the true scrambler bars. I have discounted these bikes due to engine heat. I live in a climate country and ride in the city a lot. Any thoughts?
@@grenphelps7455 not at all! It's just one that's sitting in the list to edit but it'll be a lot of work so I need a couple of free days to get a good run at it. Also trying to line up the Multi V4 soon
The Icon. In yellow. Change the bars and mirrors if you want. Of course you can go fast enough to damage your ''physical wellbeing''. Spoke-wheels = tubed tyres in this case, I think.
Love the nightshift looks. The scrambler just doesn't make financial sense compared to rest of Ducati lineup. Feels like already paying a premium for the hip, hip style.
Nightshift every time. It looks way, WAY nicer. I would, however, fit a higher pair of bars to it and then you get the better riding position on the better looking bike. ..
How reliable are these Ducati Scrambler motorbikes? How well built are they? I am just so dubious of anything Italian. Saying that VW own Ducati. Are the service and repair costs high compared to a Honda? You can get a lot of Honda motorbike for the same money as that Ducati Scrambler.
The bike is actually quite reliable. It’s got the classic air cooled 803cc engine that many Ducatis of the past had (produced in hundreds of thousands of units), very little electronics and a simple build/design. As for the service and repair costs, it depends numerous things, including where you live and what you’re comparing it to (including what model of Japanese bike your are comparing it to). All in all it may just be the best Ducati you can on the market: relatively cheap to buy, reliable, gorgeous (personal opinion, but shared by many others) and most of all a blast to drive around town and on back roads. I hope this comment was helpful for you. Ciao and ride safe 🤙🏼.
@@paolobottino4945 what you say makes sesne. But you are biased being Italian. Can I trust what you say as we all know Pinochio came from Italy..........LOL
Ducati servicing costs are higher, more frequent and more critcal, the belts have to be changed. They are not as reliable as a Honda. That said I've had 3 of them, great bikes but just not ride and forget like the Japanese bikes can be.
@@splodge57 Thank you for that information. I shall stick to Honda and maybe buy a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. At 58 years old, one cannot be bothered to fuss around.
Man, you should be more informed about italian excellence. Biles like Ducati, Aprilia, Gilera, Guzzi, Malaguti, Benelli, Moto Morini, etc. Cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Alfa Romeo. And not talking about tales, food, art, design, clothes…The only factor that influences this excellence today, is globalization and price competition. So, things can change and did change for many stuff, but this didn’t happen with Ducati: they raised prices, they didn’t lower quality. This is my 3rd Ducati, so crossing 20 years of production I can tell you that this last one has the same quality the older had too. Just more modern, of course, but still amazing bikes like once.
@MotoBob, If you had to pick one Scrambler out of the Ducati Night Shift Scrambler to the Triumph Street Scrambler 900 (both this years models) for a bike to go out on a Sunday ride out or a bike around town then which one would you pick???
I’d go with the triumph. Ducati was definitely more unique, but more rugged feeling. Triumph was more refined and classy. I test rode both (not the night shift, but the icon) and liked the triumph more (and bought it). Also the Ducati Maintainence / service cost scared me away too 😂
Great bikes, just not at this price point. Same goes for triumph street twin etc. For the same price you pick up something like and mt09 which is a better bike in every way, except for looks (tho that arguable).
Ducati has a truly exciting motorcycle in their Scrambler, I wish I could get excited enough to buy one. However, whether it's disrespect for the intelligence of their customers or the plain out greed to be such monstrous pricks to make a motorcycle that requires you to take your bike in to them to do a simple oil change tells me Ducati is not a company I'll consider doing business with until they pull their noses out of their asses. While greed in today's world is getting to be a more normal thing, I'll certainly not engage in business with a company who is acting either so blatantly greedy or so disrespectfully. An owner should be able to change their own oil.
i love ur work but plz try to speak a bit slow it feel as if u r trying to u r i front of a teacher give ur answer of a question which u have learned by heart take it easy bob
step1 : buy the nightshift.
step2: change the handlebar with that on icon version.
step 3: enjoy the best scrambler version on the market.

@slave gang k
I love the handle bar on the night shift, but why the heck spoke wheel for road focus??? It should be the other way around instead.
1:31 he says air - cooled so is that radiator here , an OIL cooler ? Also what does that little silver , finned box do ? Ignition-related ?
I think the icon is great, its a pure scrambler style bike, comfy, strong midrange and corners well, de handlerbars are oldschool, better go for the trident instead of the nightshift if you want more road focused
What about honda CB650r ? Is it a good alternative ?
Thanx

Completely agree John, in fact the spoke/tubed wheel combo is a deal breaker on any bike for me precisely for the reasons you gave.
I think the one with the spokes is tubeless as well.

I just ordered a nightshift so you know my vote haha
Congrats 💐
How is it? I'd really like to know 🥺
A Honda?
Great vid Bob.
How you kept 'noise to a minimum' ?
Same the bars are what it helped me decide
Icon all day long. The spokes on the nightshift would drive my bike cleaning OCD crazy.
Excellent comparison video as always. I have to ask what are those shoes ?

Stick that right leg out a bit.
Why are the cables sticking out like a sore thumb above the speedo? That looks terrible!
Nightshift is beauty.
Nightshift all the way no doubt
I have the 2018 sport 1100 and I've upgraded the handrlbar to 2021 sport pro and it looks 👌
Thank you for your advice. I prefer Icon too. 👌
Has to be the Nightshift, the seat, the bars, the spokes, nice.
Pre 2019 Icon all the way!
Based solely on the looks and the handlebars- Nightshift for me.
Is the scrambler a good commuter bike? Just for reference, a 1 hour commute

Hope you review Ducati 1100 sports pro also. Very good review/comparison but hope you stop mentioning triumph every time.😅
Why did Ducati base their retro bike on the 350 Scrambler when they should have based it on the 250 Mach 1???
Thanks for this informative video!
Looking forward to your desert sled review.
I agree - Icon.
I honestly don't know what is best to buy for beginners
Great comparison….. brilliant. Thank you.
Helllo motobob, can it carry a weight of 350 lbs?
Last time I took in the scenery and wasn't paying attention to what's in front of me, I about rear-ended a car 😬
Seat height please ?
Great review. Going for the icon

Put them both back and buy the 1100, trust me you won’t be disappointed.
👌I think the Nightshift Bob although both would look nice on my drive.
Don't burn out M8, although you look like your lovin it!
