      Pomu's got ~160 hours of Metal Gear content so far, I've spent maybe a third of that time rewatching parts of it to add to highlights and then around the same time doing the actual editing? So like 250-300 hours as a pretty generous upper bound, if you include watching the original VODs live as "work"

    Y'know, I have my issues with how the epilogue changes the ending of the game, how there were a lot of "endings" for characters in MGS4 that didn't actually wind up being endings, but Pomu's scream of both surprise and joy when Big Boss shows back up kinda puts it into perspective. I feel like the KojiPro team members who made Kojima add this part in did it for exactly that sort of reaction. It's a scene that's really only gotten stronger post MSG4's release, after Peace Walker and (to an extent) MGS5 put more work into fleshing out Big Boss's story. Seeing him have a proper end really emphasizes this being the end of the Solid series' timeline.

    • @darrellfjohnson
      @darrellfjohnson Рік тому +13

      I get why it was added, but I would have preferred the original (or second or whatever option it was) where Snake did end up killing himself and credits played. It fit in better with the themes of the story, the series, and Kojima's mindset at the time.
      I do enjoy Pomu's reaction regardless though. It definitely had me grinning the whole way through.

    MGS4 comes to a close, hope you enjoyed! Peace Walker is next, I'm fairly confident that game will take a lot fewer episodes to highlight. I'll likely focus on mainly the story and I may not cover every story mission, though I know I'll definitely include some fluff such as the Paz dates, the Monster Hunter missions, and some of the funnier co-op adventures.
    After PW, Ground Zeroes should take 1 episode, and then MGSV will be pretty long depending on how much time she dedicates to it. She's PROBABLY also going to play the original Metal Gear 1 and 2, I haven't chosen if I'll bother covering these as well but we'll find out together

    • @Mitwadus
      @Mitwadus Рік тому +5

      Honestly? You could do MG1-2 in one “highlight” video. They’re not terribly long. And depending on how fast/cleanly Pomu plays them, you could cut them both into 15-20 minutes each. As for GZ/V, do we know if she’s also doing survive?

    Looking back on MGS4, I realize Otacon and Snake's friendship means so much that they didn't realize it until the end of MGS4 (and I didn't realize until now). Both metaphorically and in regards to the world's fate. Otacon simultaneously shined hope into Snake's life and opened a way for him to pass on what he couldn't alone. Snake might be a beast but Otacon and the rest of Snake's friends/comrades helped him bring out his own humanity, and by sticking with him will be able to show it to the world. This is despite all of fate's attempts to bury it. Against all odds they'll be able to pass on invaluable wisdom and good will that would prevent the world from repeating the horrible events of the Metal Gear franchise. Only the most loving friend could do that without realizing it's happening or flinch, and to be a friend like that it takes something The Boss held in the highest regard: Loyalty
    Awesome work editing her whole playthrough my dude. That takes ridiculous dedication

      That's what it makes MGS so good. It has a charming cast of characters. Not only you get invested in the story, but also the characters themselves.
      The two snakes, Naked and Solid, though both were the greatest soldiers of their time, they were also human in that they are relatable. They had their own internal struggles, motivations, and triumphs.
      I still think MGS4 was such a necessary conclusion to the MGS Saga. It really tied up loose ends, and culminated in a tragic reunion between the two greatest soldiers.

    Snake may have had a hard life, but Big Boss certainly did too. I saw someone complain about how Big Boss made the game about him at the end, when it's Snake's send-off, but he's such a major part of the plot for the series. During the cutscene, I tried to imagine how the game would end if he didn't show up and I came to the same conclusion Pomu did, because Snake really needed to hear those words from him so he would keep living. He would have needlessly killed himself otherwise and it would have been a sadder ending for the poor guy. Plus, without Big Boss how can you cry when he salutes The Boss's grave and, "This is good... Isn't it?"

    For all the misgivings I had with MGS4's gameplay at the time (and mostly still have today), I'm forced to admit that it tells the story it *needed* to tell very well. The emotional payoff is enormous and the closure it brings to the characters is fascinating. It is definitely not my favorite MGS game (Snake Eater and Peacewalker take that spot with a gargantuan lead), but it is a very important part of the series nevertheless.

She doesn't tell him this because she knows what's going to have to be done and if you have a Soldier already assuming he's as good as dead taking on your mission you might feel a bit more comfortable he will be willing to do the crazy things required to save the world i.e. walk through a super long microwave death hallway that he specifically goes down because he's assuming he's already dead.

    and this is why I have no interest in playing Phantom Pain...I know its silly it's just a game right? But given I played through each of the Solid games, detailing the return of Solid Snake from the MSX games, to the story of how Big Boss started and his finally ending it in the MGS4 conclusion...I simply don't have any interest playing anymore prequel/midquels about Big Boss...I felt at the time and I still do now, that even if it is a great game on its own, I don't need to play anymore games about Big Boss, because there's quite frankly nothing else I want or need to know about him anymore
