I was 16 in the summer of 1967 when "Light my Fire" hit #1. Blaring out of every station, every 10 minutes. It was a bold statement, dark, almost dangerous. I clearly remember thinking the British invasion, folk/rock or sunshine pop that surrounded it on the radio just sounded old hat and dated in comparison. Now it's a bunch of old fogey's like me dancing around trying to relive their youth which is kind of sad.
Robbie Krieger really shines with his pioneer psychedelic jazz blues rock - Love how he builds up the frenzy/ intensity for the next 2 minutes as he seamlessly weaves Eleanor Rigby and A few of my Favorite Things together- then returns to the Doors themes - What a stunning sonic tapestry! BTW: ALL the musicians were RIGHT on the MARK - in the SONIC POCKET!
