Finding the formula is not easy. Krieger would have to arrive, Manzarek solve the bass issue and divert Morrison to a baritone voice to finally distinguish himself from the rest.

These demos are fantastic before they were fully worked on. 2 yrs later you would hear the difference when they featured these songs on their albums. In 1968 Hello I Love became a hit. In these demos it proves that Ray Manzarek is a great piano player. He proved to be a great organ player. It also proves the Doors were an Electric Blues Band because after these demos they took these songs into another level. The Doors music would eventually become interdimentional.

It's cool to hear this raw versions of great Doors songs and I can easily see the importance of Paul Rotchild's work in the production of the Doors' albums. He turned beautiful songs into classics with a very peculiar and original sound.

the doors themselves more honed everything over the following 2 years playing little bars all around LA...as jim's singing ability rapidly developed, and as ray switched to organ, and robbie was added on slide guitar, and what not...they also improvised like mofos and debeloped even more, and explored...thus, their unique sound was "found"....jim is green as F here, obviously; rothchild has said he just set up mics, and let them go...the first album was a lot of, if not first, then a lot of live, in the studio, type-takes.

The Doors are my favorite band . I used to get annoyed when people tried to say they ripped off " All day and all of the night " on " Hello I love you ". I think early on the band was influenced a bit by some Kinks songs. There's even a little bit of " You've really got me " in " My eyes have seen you ". Not enough to call it plagiarism. I've recently been listening to the two post-Morrison Doors albums ('Other Voices' and 'Full Circle") and trying to process those (they're not good, despite fine musicianship). So this is the embryonic stage. I can only conclude that the Doors with Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger and John Densmore were infinitely greater the sum of the parts. Every member had great strengths, but everyone needed each other to make magic. Great to hear this stuff though.
