Cool video we been riding these rails for years. All rail from the Mine down to 4 miles before the Bradshaw Trestle have been removed. Was there 3 weeks ago. Let's hope they leave our lower rails alone.
Why remove them? Seems like wasted effort unless the rails bring great scrap prices. Is this the green weenie way to put that area back in “pristine” condition?
Hellyeah brother will living the dream if I was you the only other thing I would do is grow some killer tree bud if you know what I mean anyways bub wishing you and your pup the best keep up the awesome videos
I remember reading this history of the line. Very interesting as apparently it did actually have trainsvonbit up until 1986 if I remember correctly. It was mentioned that at some point there was hope of reopening the line for some alternate use but nothing ever came of it. Sad. Totally weird that the rail line that remains was never pulled up and scrapped but I guess that just means more fun! Looks like great fun.
Being that this video is 4 years old, I assume that all of the tracks have been torn up by now. Is that true? Or did they leave any behind? There are still the Carrizo Gorge tracks. I don't know if there are any plans for that one. And there are hundreds of other abandoned lines around the country. It's been since the mid 70s since I did this track. It was live then. We had a train schedule so we didn't collide with the regular run. We used to hunt quail from the cart. They were very abundant out there.
4 years on since this vid. More and more outlaw speeders are getting stopped on abandoned sections. Another one in the news just the other day. If your enjoying it now,, take lots of pics and vids. Soon to be memories.
I thought they were going to make it a giant landfill for L.A.’s trash. When was this ride? Google Earth looks like last half of road is washed out. There are a lot of rails out there only supported by air (hanging great distances).
I dont know how you can stand being that close to the Salton. Several years ago, we drove by it on the highway and the smell coming from it was so bad that I had to stop and throw up.
You should have had the option of tires then you could have ridden the trackbed all the way to the mine, also it would help out with those dodgy bits of track. Poor engine propelling 5, it sure is a long walk back
A&K railroad, which is a scrapper, pulled up the line mostly last year. At least where the line goes underneath I-10, it's all gone. Except for the trackside shanty SE of I-10, you can't even tell that a rail line ran through there.
Paul, I had a good friend visit the area a couple of months back ad he said the rails are all still there from the big trestle down to the Salton Sea. For some unknown reason it seams that A&K stopped just East of said trestle.
@@RailVentures That's bizarre, but a good thing then. I'd love to build a tiny speeder and tour the line myself. I was last in the area around October, and to the casual person, nothing speaks abandoned ROW.
That is caused by sand being blown against an already existing shrub, or Yucca. As the shrub grows, the sand mound gets higher, causing the large mound effect. And the wind does blow out there. Borrego Springs off road park is just south/west of Salt N Sea.
@@markweber6992 But the active tracks seem to run for miles in each direction from the your starting point. How/where do you get on the other side of them? I'd be coming from the west side of the Salton Sea...is there an actual crossing, somewhere north maybe, and then look for offroad tracks from there?
