Dick Gregory at the Million Man March (1995)

- The Million Man March was a large gathering of African-American men in Washington, D.C., on October 16, 1995. Called by Louis Farrakhan, it was held on and around the National Mall. The National African American Leadership Summit, a leading group of civil rights activists and the Nation of Islam working with scores of civil rights organizations, including many local chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (but not the national NAACP) formed the Million Man March Organizing Committee. The founder of the National African American Leadership Summit, Dr. Benjamin Chavis, Jr. served as National Director of the Million Man March.
The committee invited many prominent speakers to address the audience, and African American men from across the United States converged in Washington to "convey to the world a vastly different picture of the Black male"[1] and to unite in self-help and self-defense against economic and social ills plaguing the African American community.
I was there! Every time I see video or pictures it seems surreal but me and the homie made the trip. Maybe the most impactful day of my life.

How did the trip impact your life?
@@A_Muzik For one, the moment itself was powerful to a level that's hard to explain. I don't know if I have or had ever seen a million of anything in one place but to see black men of all ages from the top of the mall for as far back as you could see, in harmony had me in awe. There were families 3, 4 and 5 generations deep. I was already very much purpose driven even at 24, 25 years old but experiencing the Million Man March showed me that yes indeed anything is possible. Second, man it made me realize the connection in spirit we all have. Whatever the actual count was, the power out there was one giant soul. There were famous people, Isaac Hayes, Dr. Dre of Yo MTV raps in the crowd without security and nobody was asking for autographs. We all were one, everybody was mingling, sharing food, offering space for those that couldn't see. I saw a group of men help hoist a white camera man up on one of the statues so he could get a overhead shot. Then helped him down. There were a sprinkling of women in tears seeing all of us in harmony. I'm 51 now, and I'm still not sure how powerful that day was and sometimes I still can't believe I was blessed to be able to experience it.
@@purposepassionandlovetv863 why black people can't create that harmony between them all the time
I can’t get enough of Dick Gregory 💯🙏🏾☢️

I was too young to grasp how amazing this experience was. It was an honor to be there.
I was there!
Sad to see in 2021 an nothing has change
Damn Sad
The Brother Rounded all of our problems up in to one simple solution, Love! And when we come to find out what Love is,we don't want it! We rather keep what our Oppressors give us!!!
He had so many gems and somebody in college introduced me to him. 💛
I was there that glorious day! It was the most spiritual event in my life time, for that many Black men in to be in one place and not get accosted by the cops. Which makes me wonder about the riot at the capital. Why weren't they better prepared for such an event. CAUSE they damn sho was prepared for a million Black men setting it off.
when we come into the world your spirit connect with other spirits we are more aligned with i''m proud my spirit connects to our beloved spirit of Dick Gregory ....R.I.P Roy T Harris

One million peaceful protestors assembled and dispersed with not a whisper of violence, yet I'm old enough to remember Those In Power at the time calling THIS a terrorist act.
qWhite illuminating to see given what ACTUAL terrorists did in this same location on January 6th, 2021.
OVER A MILLION BLACK BROTHERS AND NOT ONE TRIED TO BREAK IN THE WHITE HOUSE LIKE THESE HEATHENS DID ON JANUARY THE 6TH
Hunh?! Ha?!
Allahu Akbar
Today, I wonder if they'll 💣 us if we were to ever get together like this again. Just a thought...
Wtf you talking about? Actually, I already know. You are addicted to the victim mentality. Poor little intellectual baby. Stay on the plantation. After all, you are still paranoid and scared of what your “masters” are going to do to you.
