    Brother I love the amount of love, respect and appreciation you have shown for Mexico as the wonderful country it is.
    My dad is a several generation Mexican American as I am.
    But my mother is from Mexico (Xochitepec Morelos and Mexico City) and I was blessed to visit every summer and Christmas throughout my childhood and they are the best memories of my childhood life.

      Yes sir it was I'm 38 now and I finally went again this past spring break for the first time in 20 years and it was just as beautiful as ever, a little more crowded. You should visit Xochitepec and Chiconcuac Morelos, if you ever get a chance such a charming area.
      My wife and six year old daughter loved it.

      Hey Paul! I enjoy your videos a lot, but mostly because you have an unbiased point of view. You are open minded, honest and not afraid to try new stuff. You even embrace mexican culture, or at least part of it which is awesome. I believe that people in any country, gets used to everyday life and stops enjoying, taking for granted things that they already have. Thank you for showing our culture to the world, and reminding us how great Mexico is.

    “A Developed Country Is One in Which Rich People Use Public Transport”. I’m a Mexican living in The Netherlands and unless I really have to, I don’t use the car. There’s virtually no need to use it, but there’s no comparison point of course. Good video.

    • @jamescolosio263
      @jamescolosio263 7 років тому +4

      Seyerseyer I think that's where Mexico wants to go in the future they indeed have plans for a hyper loop and the tren Toluca will be opened to the public by the end of 2018

    • @Ivan-jj3lh
      @Ivan-jj3lh 7 років тому +8

      i live in United states, its a cultural thing, because here we are a "first world" and its the same as Mexico, people rather not use public transportation, because it has to do with the planning of city lay outs, such as wide streets and wide gaps between businesses, here in USA public transportation is not useful since streets are more useful and faster to get to where you want to go by car, so in the end only people with no cars use public transportation. Trust me with out your own car in USA you are going to have a horrible lifestyle.

    • @charcossinagua
      @charcossinagua 7 років тому +4

      Seyerseyer i used to live in the United States and didn't own a car so I used plenty of public transportation. I planned my day according to bus schedules and it worked fine. When people realised I didn't have a car it was a shock to them. They couldn't understand why I didn't have a car since I didn't look poor. I paid a monthly pass for the service. About 50 dollars. The buses were clean and New. Someone actually mentioned public buses were for "homeless people"!

    • @decuy

      I live in Portland USA and public transportation sucks.

    • @tonecus
      @tonecus 7 років тому +5

      Charcosinagua, I completely agree with you. Its not cultural but attitude. I have lived in NYC and Europe for more than half of my life. When I go to visit my relatives I take the bus because it is so convenient and cheap, and safer than a taxi. I wish Mexicans would stop showing off what they don't have and instead become bikers to improve their environment, economics and become less fat.

    Hola Paul, me parecen muy buenos tus videos, este en particular me parece excelente no sólo por el costumbrismo que muestras acerca de México, sino por la forma en la que retratas el malinchismo y el clasismo en este país! Puedo comentarte que conozco amigos que no se suben a un camión o microbus por mero clasismo, aunque en ocasiones no tengan para pagar la mensualidad de su coche o de la gasolina misma.
    Culturalmente México es muy rico, aunque todas esas campañas de marketing que se hacen para consumir marcas extranjeras antes que marcas locales, sí marea a muchos!
    Ojalá pudieras venir a Puebla, yo podría cooperarte con alojamiento y un sofá para dormir! Jajajajaja, saludos.

    Here having breakfast watching True México ;)
    I know! How can you refuse unos tacos al pastor? I can't! And there's is food stands that are waaay better (and cheaper) than restaurants! For example, where I live sea food is very común and in proper restaurants all dishes are very expensive but there's a street place that have every dish of a restaurant way cheaper and all is very delicious! My bf and I love that place and we never have been sick eating there.
    Also yeah malinchismo is very común, Even more in the states closer to the border. :/

    Enjoyed your video as always. I’m an expat in Baja California and me siento en casa en México. I’m very happy that we have a great PR guy like yourself showing the true beauty of living the simple life in what I consider the best part about living here. I just hope that we don’t get too many expats like myself or we might lose the essence of what makes this country so great, the people, the food, the culture, and the values of hard work which most of the time go unnoticed. Well done!

    Good morning Paul, we just celebrated Thanksgiving it is a beautiful day, we gave thanks for what we feel grateful. I totally agree with you, when I go to Mexico I use public transportation because I don't drive in Mexico, it is so cheap and efficient, some people is surprise that I use it. Living in Los Angeles, public transportation is horrible, so inefficient, you must have a car to get around. Having a car to me is not a luxury but a necessityI don't like to spend my money at franchise stores , I rather eat local, they have so many great food and I love the street vendors. Street vendors are very hardworking people, little entrepreneurs. About malinchistas, I always say if they would only copy the good things from other countries Mexico will be better than what it is now. There is always room for improvement, reduction of plastic, those plastic bags that they use with the plates, lots of that trash ends on the sewer. Let's all cooperate and keep the streets clean.Thank you for pointing out, the good things that many don't appreciate.

    MALINCHE, she is like the Mexican version of POCAHONTAS, she was Cortez lover.
    I'm a very old man, and I proudly say that 99% of Mexican people don't know what racism is; in all my life I never saw an act of racism or racist hate crimes and that says a lot. You're Mexican and that's what matters most.
    However to be true and honest our society is very classist.. ( although humble and lower economic class people's doesn't give a shit about this)
    ...and prejudice, money and status makes a big difference mostly among the wealthy mestizo people ( the same person will receive a different treatment according with his statusr or education degree, although in Mexican northern cities near the USA border line this is not a big deal and social status is not so evidently )
    The roots of this prejudice comes from the Spaniard attitude towards the natives at the central area of Mexico ; they called them wrongly " Indians" because Columbus thought he discovered another route to India, and also as an despised name.
    This classist prejudice explains a lot of things like the traditional European rampant corruption and this video on wealthy people attitudes toward public transportation.
    About " La Malinche ", she wasn't the only native who helped the Spanish soldiers, other tribes were at war against the Aztec and helped Cortez to defeat Aztecs ; and Malinche original town was oppressed by the Aztecs.
    She was the most famous of all of them and because she was very intelligent and served as a language translator, and helped Cortez as a interpret and adviser in order to defeat the Aztecs.
    Her original and native name was Malintzin or Mallinalli, she was a very intelligent and beautiful woman and trilingual ; she spoke Mayan, Nahuatl and Spanish and the Spaniard troops changed and Spanished her name to " Doña Marina " as a deference and sign of respect ( at that times was inconceivably to give a native the "Don" or "Doña prefix ).
    That's why we call " Malinchista " ( Malinche follower) to someone who prefer and praise other cultures and imported products, traditions or attitudes over the Mexican ones.
    There's not much information about La Malinche.
    Townsend's book "Malinche choices" is a good start to English speakers.
    I suggest to read about La Malinche, a very interesting and fascinating historical personality.

    1. Public transport is uncomfortable, uncouth.
    2. You don't want to be surrounded by dirty, smelly poor people.
    3. You don't want to show your wealth to those people because they may mug you, kidnap you or kill you.
    This is how richer (or those who think they are) people think in Mexico. This tradition gets less pronounced as you go further north in the country, where you'll notice there's less classism.

    Es muy interesante como México se te ha metido debajo de la piel..... Más por el hecho de que vienes de Inglaterra y has vivido en Japón y otros lugares considerados como primer mundo..... Sitios que son aspiracionales para muchos mexicanos....y sin embargo es México el que te ha parecido más ad oc con tu cosmología personal para vivir y gozar la vida...... No digo que México es mejor ni que aquí te quedarás.... Pero si es muy interesante re marcar ese hecho, porque como tu mencionas, muchos de nuestros compatriotas piensan que otros sitios son mejor que México, pero no tienen la experiencia de vivir bajo el yugo de una mentalidad cuadrada y asfixiante, de la cual huyen muchos.....y si..... Escribo compatriotas incluyendo te a ti...... México no es sólo un país, sino una filosofía de vida.......y nadie lo aprecia mejor, que los mexicanos que vienen de fuera.

    I´m gonna tell you a fact about discrimination of clases using public transportation using an example. Many years ago like 1800 sth, there was mexican public maker, etc, and also cartoonist, he was José Guadalupe Posada and he used to draw eskeletons moking about mexican politics on newspapers. Then Diego Rivera took that drawing, but now dressed by a beautiful feather coat with an also a nice haty; she´s "La Catrina", better known as "La Calavera Garbancera". The word "catrin" means a man well dressed, elegant, and "Garbancera" means that people (especially indigenous) who used to sell garbanza (a seed to cook w/) and they used to pretend they were europeans and denied their race and culture as a mexican, feeling just someone superior. So there is "La Catrina", a mexican skeleton dressing clothes from europe, a not her typical dressing (and just because its and skeleton, mexicans put it on "Día De Muertos", sth I find it wrong). I think, that´s what Diego Rivera tried to tells about the way of thinking of the mexican in Mexico. And I think it still happening, some mexicans dont want to use some transportations because feel superior than others, or because they have more money so they can travel in a "safety" way. But also, because so many foreign companies had been dominating in the city and with tecnology we can relate to another country style, find them cool, and when we go outside, we dont like what we see comparing with another countries. I think that´s how the mexican thinking works.
