I've dated a Mexican woman for 2 years, what my biggest culture shock was, was that Mexicans work a lot, she works like, 6 days a week, 12 hours a day, here in the Netherlands it's like, 4 days, and 8 hours a day, for most people, anyway, it was the best time of my life, an experience that I will never forget, and also, I hope to one day, end up in Mexico, and just go party with her and a couple of her friends, because that's something the Dutch, and the Mexicans have in common, they LOVE to party, I also love Mexican food, spicy food in general is amazing, but Mexican food is my absolute favourite, music wise I also love Mexico, Mariachi has become one of my favourite music genres to listen to

right finally someone with a brain. People think oh it's nice to live there. But of course you can live well off when you have US, Euros and other first world country money that is more when you convert it to pesos. They never go in the dirt poor area and see how hellish the locals live. Anyone with good money from a first world country can live well in south america and Caribbean and smaller 3rd world countries
Definitely was misled cheap before I went. I used hostels which actually not so cheap anymore as no ventilation literally. As an asthmatic it was hard and a great experience. Wish gad been there say 25 years ago. I took intercity buses and were costly tbh. I loved the experience and needed to use my Spanish a lot ...I was shocked as to how ordinary workers survive as welfare state where is it inc water not drinkable so how can people buy water for whole family or medications??

It kinda makes sense. I’m Mexican studying and living in Portugal and with my minimum salary I live tight but comfortable, this wouldn’t be possible in Mexico, being independent over there is too hard

I'm Mexican, I was talking to another Mexican girl and a Colombian girl on a flight from Peru to Argentina, they both lived in the Mexican girl in Switzerland and the Colombian in Sweden. We laughed the whole way as they would comment on their experiences and culture shocks. the funniest one is the Mexican girl, was invited after almost a year of dating her Swiss boyfriend to have dinner at his families home. It was very cordial and pleasant, however at one point her boyfriends Dad just showed up in pajamas and laid down to sleep in the couch and saying "It's very late, I am very tired, I need to work tomorrow early, there is so much noise etc" an obvious invitation for her to go. I am not sure if this is common I am almost certain it is not, we just laughed so much.

i like that she considers herslf mexican. i think Mexico is one of those places you can go, live there for a bit and genuinely feel like you fit in and not like a outsider. the locals will remind you how welcome you are everyday you step foot outside. after some time you wont even realize you're not in your own country
My only complaint is planning things with friends in Mexico. If I say 7:00 pm, I show up at 8 pm, my Mexican friends still show up at 10 pm 😂😂😂

I had Chicano friends who did a lot of these things too. One would always make plans then just not show up, and she wouldn't even text me, then when I would see her, she would just act like nothing happened. And my other Chicano friend would always offer to invite me to a soccer or football match or to his house for enchiladas, then never mention it again.
And yeah, as someone who was raised to be a very punctual and reliable person, the whole "manana" concept is something I'd like to see done away with.

3:17, when people say they'll have you over for dinner or invite you anywhere and then dont follow thru, its not that they don't, what they are trying to say is they're putting the idea out there, in other words the invitation is open and are willing to confirm a date and time.

People from Jalisco do not think they are Spanish, we know we have a lot of Spanish ancestry there is a difference. I do agree that Mexican in the North are a light skinned that isn't a lie. We can't help the way we look but attitude with air of superiority I agree is not ok period. All kinds of people in Mexico city live in there so I don't like to share that kind of attitude that Northers think they are better from Mexico city. That is a point of view that is very skewed. I actually feel people from Mexico especially the richer families are really full of themselves because of the way they have an air of superiority.
Yes, it’s strange isn’t, funny thing the Spanish themselves aren’t considered white, for many Northern Europeans countries. Even in the US, the Spanish weren’t considered white, like white Americans.
@johnnyflores5954 It's all about context. Whoever the coloniser is becomes "White" by default. That'll be Southern European in South America and Northern Europeans (Anglo Saxons) in North America.
In Europe as you say it used to be that Southern Europeans were looked down upon by Northern Europeans.

It's more classism than racism. A good example are the Argentinian waiters in Mexico City, they can be white, even blonde, but Mexicans will discriminate against them for being poor, while brown nosing a Black or Brown person at the same time

All these foreigners complaining about Mexicans being super polite and nice is just shocking, rude and comes across as having bad manners. Those are qualities to appreciate, not complain about.
Those are of course qualities to appreciate but only when they are sincere. With many Mexicans it is all a show and when you need them to do the right thing and be honest they fall short of reality . In other places of the world there is less misleading chit chat and more accuracy as to what comes out of the peoples mouths.

Hey! I want to clarify something. grasshoppers are not a normal food. Some indigenous ethnic groups from places like Oaxaca ate it, Oaxacan vendors took it to CDMX and sold it as something from our roots, but 99.9% of the country does not eat those things on a regular basis and they are part of our purchases in the market. It's a tourist trap.

For foreigners who live or want to come to live in Mexico, I just want to tell you to respect the place you come to, respect the people, the customs and the way of life of those of us who were born here, otherwise do not come and look for another place that does like it, because you are doing us no favors by moving to our country, don't think that because we have a reputation as good hosts, we have to put up with stupid people, when they overwhelm us we are also bastards.
I have news for you so listen up. Everything you say in your comment, well us gringos up North in the cities being invaded by people from your country and other places more south , we can say the same about you. So re-read what you wrote and realize we up North in the US and Canada are dealing with the exact same thing, the same situation. Also as a famous obnoxious president once said about immigration, they are not always sending to the U.S. their best people. Well the same could be said for our people who are choosing to live in Mexico : They are not always our best so don't expect all will be perfect. Having said that fact which I just stated, you should also know that most of us in the North do not hate our southern neighbors. Quite the contrary.

As a scientist, I've worked in the UK, Belgium, Sweden (my current spot), and Chile, among others, and I've noticed something interesting. Chileans seem to be notably more productive than Italians, Spanish folks, and even some southerners from Belgium (Wallonia, to be precise). On the flip side, Northern Europeans really ace the efficiency game and are masters of long-term planning. Now, about Mexicans, they might not be the quickest with their time, which might explain their lower productivity. It seems like they put in more hours at work, but the output doesn't match up. From what I've seen, Chileans and Uruguayans definitely put their noses to the grindstone more than their southern European counterparts. They've got this serious, trustworthy vibe about them (although it's less consistent compared to Nordic countries when it comes to reliability). But hey, Colombia and Brazil? It's a whole different story - they are way more relaxed. Ultimately, saying all of Latin America operates like Mexico alone? Nah, that doesn't quite capture the full picture. There's a mix of work cultures and productivity levels across the region.
The working hours in Mexico are insanely long. That's why the productivity rate is so low. Additionally: few vacations and holidays.

Racism is an English term. I have a feeling of some these people haven't been in mexico for a long enough time.
Racismo is a real thing throughout Latin America. It's not soley in English-speaking countries.
To cut the long story short, what Mexico needs is no racism, no chilli, no sugar, no pollution, be punctual, and be kind by paying your tithes direct to the poor (not the churches).
Even when they talked about the good things I felt awkward, because some of those things I don't find desirable, but when they started talking about the bad things I was thinking: the pros ain't compansate for the cons, specially if we consider that the bad things are rather problems than inconveniences.
I prefer living in Michoacán than Mexico City.

This behavior is just in Mexico city the rest of Mexico is not rude but they aren't over welmingly friendly .the time thing is only when there is no consequences to being late.I make it clear that I will leave if they don't show up on time.Mexicans are actually punctual people .people with the safety concerned have obviously never been to Chicago or Los Angeles. I lived in Mexico for almost two years, and the biggest problem I had as an American was that Mexicans are never on time. As a native New Yorker, you learn really quickly that New Yorkers are not going to be pleased when you arrive late, especially without calling or texting. No one cares in Mexico about being late. I never got used to it and saw it as a huge disrespect of my time at times. Another thing was not being direct. Mexicans love to talk in circles (rodeos). When I was teaching English, many male students hated that I was very direct with them. They were used to getting their way at home and in the streets. But that was not going to happen in my classroom. Older males over 30 had less of a problem with my directness. I believe this was because many of them were trying adapt to the American way before beginning jobs in the US. Female students were used to being around men who took charge. Thus they accepted my directness, especially after I explained why directness was important in American culture.
Over all, Mexican women are warm, sexy and friendly. Some wanted to really get to know me so that I could bring them to the US in the future, but most did not act that way. My Mexican girlfriends were great. The only problem I saw was that they did not know how to make decisions for themselves. If I asked someone out to dinner, they would need their dad's permission to go out at night. And these women were already in their 20s to almost 30 in two instances. Mexican guys liked having me around in social settings at the beginning when my Spanish just okay. The second I became completely fluent with a great Mexican accent (according to Mexican women), the men seemed to get jealous because I no longer needed them to help translate for me. I could now talk to everyone even girls the men liked.
In conclusion, I loved it in Mexico. As with any other place on the planet, Mexico has its good aspects and bad ones. The people are very nice and their culture is welcoming. Once you know Spanish, everything gets much easier. Learning about the Mexican idea of time and getting things done in a timely manner are the biggest pitfalls of living there. If you can learn to deal with those negatives, Mexico will become a joy for you.

As a probably whitexican myself ( never saw me as a white color skin person , but I get passed as a Canadian or don’t know what) never ever experienced racism or classism in my life and I can get away with a lot of shit trust me. But specially CLASSISM DRIVES ME NUT! It’s a shame!
