I think the problem is more obvious in rich neighborhoods Between social classes the rich and the poor: the educated and the marginated, this always has been Mexico's biggest problem. Mexico is rich but wealth is in the hands of a very small percentage of the population. Even when mexicans fought the US and lost half their territory they were entangled in this social classes clash within the country and this played a decisive role in the outcome of the war. To really understand mexican culture it is fundamental to be familiar with mexican history and the social problems in Mèxico that go beyond spain occupation in the country. As old as this problem is I do not see mexican people being embarrased of their culture or heritage.
