I recently (less then a week ago) deployed a UDM pro and AC-Pro AP to replace my home Cisco Meraki network. Blown away how great this system is. Can't wait to replace my POE switches and get some cameras installed. Very impressed with Ubiquiti so far. Thanks for the reviews, thy are most helpful.
be aware that the Video system is lacking to say it nicely. i was considering it aswell but the fact that you cannot take backup of the recordings and i can only export the Triggers is a big issue.
Don't get the cameras from them. Their nvr system is not that good and they are not trustworthy when it comes to lifetime of products. Go for some ONVIF cameras and use synology. The unifi cameras are a locked eco system and if you do not like the nvr and you want to switch you have to replace the cameras to. With ONVIF cameras you can switch to another nvr and still use the same cameras.
@@binnihh First off, If you are going to go with a nas solution I would strongly suggest going with QNAP. The security software is really good as well.. Synology only comes with license for 1 camera, QNAP comes with 8. But, that being said, Unifi cameras are really good. The image quality will surprise you, especially on the Flex cameras. Great image for less than $80.00 and it's really simple to setup. I use both. Unifi at my house and QNAP at my office. I have a Synology server for other uses but I find that the QNAP QVR-Pro to be better than what Synology has.
I'm building a house and was thinking of putting in the Google Nest Doorbell - now after seeing this review though I'll be going with the UniFi Protect G4 Doorbell (will be a part of a large UniFi setup). Thanks for a good and informative review!
They should really consider using a T8 or T9 6 Point Star Security screw. We use them on the RF readers and keypads for access control systems. Most people don't just walk around with a bit in their pocket.

I just started getting into Ubiquiti's stuff basically this year. I'm planning on getting this doorbell. I don't have the unifi "ecosystem" yet, but I most likely will down the road. Got the UDM router and have loved the thing so far, plus I don't mind paying for quality stuff. Everything I've seen from this doorbell is very appealing, and I'll probably think of some creative way to block anyone from trying to steal it lol. This video helped me understand what I will need to get it up and running. Legit looking forward to it.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention that access to the doorbell from the mobile apps requires using Ubiquiti Cloud services which have been down for more than 12 hours in the last few days. Also that Ubiquiti has pushed updates to the locally installed Protect equipment which has caused them to go down even when the users had set their systems to not allow automatic updates.
Good video. But what I think is lacking is the scenarios when you have 1 centralized cloud Key running protect (and unifi) to show that you can ALSO have cameras (and unifi UPAs) installed on a DIFFERENT network and how you proceed to set that up in the real world. I now know how but it might be useful for others watching this channel to understand and watch you doing it. Great channel !
Can you get to the RTSP setting from the web interface before adopting it into your UniFi Network? If so a video on using RTSP Stream to a sinology NVR would be interesting.
I really hope they have a PoE version in the future. I am currently looking at the Ring Doorbell Elite just because it has PoE. Wish UniFi will come out with one soon with a better way to secure the doorbell, such as a security screw.
Yeah I’m looking at options now. Middle of large house renovations have installed network cable everywhere. Was hoping to set up whole system inside the one ecosystem. Was hoping the unifi option would have been a more “prosumer” focused offering.
Tom, great video. Just wanted to know if you know of a way to integrate this with a display/tablet so when someone press the doorbell it will automatically show on a screen. Just like a echo show or nest hub shows their own video feed from a doorbell automatically.
They need to make it work without the need for an wall chime, like the Ring system. Ring support WiFi chimes you can put in various location (basement and living room) in addition to the old fashion mechanical chimes.
I got a friend who set his up with home assistant and it tells alexa to say someone is at the door. Pretty sure you could tie in a wifi chime this way.
sporktar - the issue is how do you make a bell/chime ring without an old fashioned wired connection to a doorbell? The Ring system has this via WiFi. Ubiquiti need to add a similar facility.
Nice video! Do you think most people will want a chime? Is it reasonable in practice to only get notifications on your phone when someone is at the door?
I think the biggest flaw in this doorbell as well as most all other doorbells is that the companies rely on normal push notifications to let you know someone's rung your doorbell. If your phone is on silent, you won't hear anything. If you get motion alerts for your protect cameras, it's very easy to miss the button press notification. These doorbells really really need to implement callkit on iPhone and the Google equivalent for Android phones. Someone pressing your doorbell button should result in a call on your phone that takes over your screen and presents itself like a phone call. Otherwise it's useless unless your home and hear the chime.
If my phone is on silent, how can I hear it ringing? What about mobile reception? Traditional phone calls will soon become obsolete, my son doesn't even have SIM card in his phone because he's using WiFi connection basically anywhere he needs, with 5G and eSIM, it will be even easier to forget about it. Also, I can easily override any phone sound/DnD settings/state with phone settings, routines or IFTT.
@@markharwood that doesn’t solve the problem completely. The whole point of these is to answer the doorbell and talk back to the person before they walk away. The release trigger looks like poor design. At least the ring and SkyBell uses a screw to lock in the doorbell. Does ubiquiti give you a new one if it’s stolen like ring? Can a stolen one be reused?
Tom if I have a viewport and someone hits the doorbell, does it display anything on the viewport?
I would also like to know the answer to this. It would be great if it also played a chime through the HDMI output of the viewpoint.
I want enough ambient noise, so I lit something on fire xD
I hope I never have to remove mine off of the wall. When I was done installing it I used super glue to keep it on there, if someone wants to steal it they are going to destroy it ripping it off of there.
Looks good but I think I’ll stay with my Ring door bell, works fine
I have a dream machine, if I buy a unifi nvr, is that all I need for a doorbell? I will add more cameras later lol
Answered at the beginning 🤦♂️
how would you run this with a UDM? could you install a cloud key 2??
"Effing Door"
is it me or anything that was white in this video was hard to see?
No subscription... yet!
Why cant the damn dream machine host unifi protect? Annoying...
$199 for a doorbell! It does nothing special compared to other connected doorbells…
It does if you have other unifi equipment in your house, which is the only group of people who'd be buying this in the first place. But you knew that right?
@@billrader5557 what unique thing does it do if you have a Unifi ecosystem?
@@abdullahX001 Works with it. Why would I want a ring on a different system\app when I already have a camera system etc? It's not for you, that's clear. No need to crap on those of us who are looking forward to using it.
@@billrader5557 so all it does is work with a Unifi system… nothing special compared to other doorbells. Thanks.
You have to buy additional hardware to use it since it can't just run off of a Linux box like Unifi. So it's a $400 doorbell not $200. Isn't that special?! You can get a Ring Elite with PoE for less than that. Ridic.
