  • In this video we will tackle the main aspects of achieving photorealism in your renders. This will be done through a little breakdown of my latest project. The tips presented here are software/render engine agnostic. They are more like general principles I learned through experience.

    I find that note about adding dirt and finger prints to make it look real, so over the top. I mean, in real life we dont see that on everything. Perhaps some smudges or soft changes.

    how would i approach making the ridges on the bottle cap? is it just a high poly mesh or displacement or a normal map?

    • @aumission
      @aumission  3 місяці тому +1

      geometry or displacement both would work here. I don't recommend normal map because of the fact that it's a round object, so the illusion of fake displacement will show at glazing angles

  • @Ivan_Balakirev
    @Ivan_Balakirev 9 місяців тому

    similar hand written "everyone" breaks any realism, you could made a few variants of sign and used random offset rotation for mapping

    • @aumission
      @aumission  9 місяців тому

      No, it was done on purpose to insinuate a manufactured feel. it's a fake hand writing. it's not exclusive like the it says on the box, and it's not exclusive because it literally says "everyone"

    quick question about EXR. I recently made a night scene and realized that the PNG format is giving me much better results than the EXR. There were a lot of bandings that were happening when I was doing post processing on the EXR in photoshop, whereas the PNG was really smooth. Is EXR only superior for brighter scenes? I've seen the Polyfiord video and I remember he was using a night scene also, but this has been my experience so far.

    • @aumission
      @aumission  8 місяців тому +2

      I dont think so, EXR stores more data in blacks and whites so it should work the same. if you use PS Make sure to apply a gamma correction of 0.4545 first

    Hey amazing work, just wanted to point out that you are not allowed to use quixel assets with the free license and export renders from blender so be careful with this topic as they could act accordingly (quixel account ban or worse). besides from than i am really impressed, id love to see a short animation of that scene to see how realistic it is on video.

    • @aumission
      @aumission  9 місяців тому +2

      Yes I agree with you, but I think quixel realises that most blender users are hobbyists and dont use the assets for commercial purposes. But legally ? Yes you are totally right

    Thanks for this video. just one question why scratched shouldn't go to the roughness channel. in the reality the roughness on the scratches is different than the smooth parts for example in the varnish wood materials the roughness on the scratches are much more than the rest of the wood.

    • @aumission
      @aumission  10 місяців тому

      you can obviously get away with scratches on the roughness channel it will look almost the same, but I agree with you, for varnished wood for instance, it might look better

      no it is definetly possible to achieve on cycles, it's just harder in my opinion. You need less effort to make things look realistic in Octane because of it's energy conservation.

    you can literally put an overlay of scratches over the top in photoshop with a clouds filter to add variance in post and save you 90% of the work. Work smarter not harder. Remember to add these details do it spairingly....and honestly 99% of clients aren't interested in this level of detail.
