Dom, as usual, your videos are AWESOME!!! I do have one question. Using project editor, can I remove a kick drum or snare from an audio drum track that isn’t a midi event?
Hi Dom. It is possible to create a fader (with a transformer, i think) to control a cc in a midi track, f.e. cc1 or cc11? I tried many times but the fader still control only the volume. I need to control expression, modwheel and other cc's. Many thanks.
Many thanks for the video DOM! Regarding the MIDI Logical Editor, in v11 the presets were not reachable for key commands unless copied/pasted manually in the Project Logical Editor presets folder. May I ask if this has been fixed? Also is there a more comprehensive amount of stock MIDI Logical editors presets available? Many thanks for your help! Victor
If there's a way to set these to a midi CC controller or shortcut, coupled with a streamdeck or something similar, this can become quite an incredible workflow tool. I'm just thinking of the possibilities with building a quick access template using TouchOSC on an external tablet.
You actually CAN bind every preset in logical editor to anything on a midi controller. The update is more insane than most people understand. Combine this with the new MIDI remotes and b000000m... Cubase is back to where it began - being the #1 MIDI-playground on the market.

the logical editor is basically a custom macro generator, you can create very specific jobs that would normally waste lots of time. i personally use it to be able to select all the tracks that are assigned to a specific output in order to then assign all of them to the right output with one click. took me 10 years to find a use for it, but when you finally find it, you never go back.
Wondering if there is a way to strum midi chords? So that every notes in a chord are slightly delayed in two different orders (upwards or downwards) and the speed of the actual strum (which increases the delay between each note). Anyone can confirm if there's something like this in the presets or if it's possible to create it with the new logical editor?

So much great stuff in v12 update. Another thing Dom, in old Cubase (Atari) there used to be an “Over Quantize” function which I havn’t found in newer versions. Instead of quantizing eg straight 16’th notes it would move notes against 16’th without making things sound like a chain gun. Can that be done with logical editor now. There also used to be a “Groove” editor for eg midi drum parts, so you could easy create your own hi-hat or cymbal parts that was not exactly on the static 16’th notes and had a more natural “swing” to it compared to just quanrizing every note to a static timing and lvl.
Hi Dom, I use to use the logical editor to randomise the volume between whatever I can't find that preset in the 12 version, I found it in the transformer but I don't have an apply button, has this preset been removed?
TIP - I think of the Logical Editor like a new synth - - millions of presets I'll never use, but several I will use, and some presets I'll tweak and save as my own favorites.
I hate this confusing several tiny buttons in Studio One! Not a timesaver with it's mouse clicking mess, and another macros in this groups underneath a button. Click click click.. terrible! Its better and faster to assign shortcuts. Pro user do this. Or use a pad or controller. Easy in Cubase. And you can open this Logical Presets as overlay floating window (tip)
@@Byron101_ I totally disagree. Why would you waste another usb port to put ipad or stream deck for keys when they are right there in front of your face in S1? Plus moving my hands all the time and holding them in the air to press buttons on an external machine is way less comfortable and ergonomic than sitting comfortably in your chair, clicking it and being done. Thanks to Dom I can now do this. It was fun doing it!.... Hello X32 Peeps I’m posting this today in the hope it might be of use to some of you, especially if you are in the subgroup of X32 users who work with Cubase and more specifically, in a studio situation rather than at gigs. This post is more about the use of Cubase than the X32 but it’s relevant to anyone who is using an X32 with Cubase. Maybe other DAWs can do this, but as I don’t have others, I don’t know. I’m on a Windows 10 machine running Cubase 12 Pro. By the way, what follows is what I want to do so, if you know a better way, or think it’s dumb, please don’t comment, this info is just to (hopefully) show users what can be done in Cubase with a little creative use of macros and the much feared PROJECT LOGICAL EDITOR or, from now on, PLE. Here is my scenario. My X32 &Cubase are setup as a16In/16 Out system and, if you’ve seen my earlier post and pics, you’ll already know how I’ve set my desk to operate like this. But what I wanted to do was have 2 different setups in Cubase depending on whether I am recording stuff or mixing down. The setups are like this. I send the outputs all my recorded tracks to different GROUPS. For easy recognition they are named the same as the scribble strips shown in the picture of X32 17 - 32 The groups have very specific names, CAPITALISED, which I will not change, though it is possible to append more info to them. This is capitalization is vital if what happens is to work. In Cubase I spent a lot of time deleting all the standard audio connections and setting up my own with friendly names telling me exactly what is what and from where to where. (See pictures) Setup 1, for recording, X32 Channels 1 -16 are regular inputs for mics/gtrs/vox/ etc. (I have named these as you see from the scribble strips in the pics) X32 Channels 17 - 29 are setup as stereo pairs coming in from Cubase (I have named these as you see from the scribble strips in the pics) X32 Channel 30 is the click track from Cubase. (I have it as you see from the scribble strips in the pics) X32 Channels 31 & 32 is my stereo mixdown track L & R (I have named them as you see from the scribble strips in the pics) Setup 2, for mixdown, is exactly the same on the X32, but I want all my Cubase GROUP outputs to go to X32 inputs 31 & 32 only (This is so I can easily export a complete mix just by telling Cubase to export the stereo mixdown) So the problem was how to make Cubase change all the audio connections between the 2 setups, so that the GROUP output could be quickly changed from sending to the X32 16 - 32 to sending to only X32 31 & 32. To do this I needed to write a couple of macros which would “run” some routines I made with the PLE. The routines and settings are shown in the pictures. I also wanted to have some way of easily knowing which set up I was working in, as it’s possible to move things around and easily get lost. So I inserted a “false” MIDI track at the top and used the PLE to change it’s colour from red to green depending on whether I’m in recording setup or mixdown setup. The macros also change the name of the track as another aid. Actually the capitalized track name doesn’t change but an extra message is appended to it which informs of the setup I’m in. Finally, I put a MUTE ON automation track with this MIDI track and locked it (locked the MUTE track, not the MIDI track itself, otherwise I would be unable to change the track name when the macros run). This also ensures that no matter how I muted or unmuted my working tracks during recording this track would always be muted and it will never trigger any sounds. This is necessary because this MIDI track must have some info in it for it to accept the colour changes. By the way, I used a MIDI track as it only needs a small amount of info in it to make it active. 1 note on command in the track is all that’s required. Then I made 2 macros containing the routines I wanted and gave each of them a “hotkey” combination. So I now have 2 macros (available with just a couple of mouse clicks or “hotkeys”) which close and open all my tracks and groups in just the way I want in my two setups and inform me which setting I’m in! As I said at the top I’m not interested in having negative comments about this post, or people asking my why I want to do this, or that they know a better way, or they think it’s stupid, BUT, if you like it but are not sure how to use Cubase macros and the PLE to achieve the same or even something similar then please PM me and I’ll be pleased to help you. Ps. Thanks to the great Dom Sigalas, Cubase guru, for turning me on to the PLE in the first place!
