The feels of RO... Though most of my time was spent on private servers. Maplestory sits deep. I don't think I need to say much else. This was also a time for arena based games too, like S4, Gunz, Gunbound, stuff like that. Ah, what a time to be alive~
id love to see more vids in this style!! i used to play a lot of mabinogi, pangya, rumble fighter, latale, and tales runner!! of course, maplestory, flyff, ragnarok, and trickster were also a big staple of my childhood too!!
@zweihanderblue haha yeah, I do like to revisit it sometimes, thankfully people have made private serves for it despite it being shut down in the u.s. Gpotato tales runner was the good old days.
Tales of Pirates is the one that made me love exploration in a game. You would just sail without direction and end up in an island with rare drops. Beautiful. Also Dream of Mirror Online was the best one regarding Life Professions at that time. And Aura Kingdom was the one with the class system among these kind of MMORPGs. Good ol days
Okay, so i finally have gone through it and, ngl, this brings me back. Playing FlyFF reminded me about DoMO (Dream of Mirror Online) and a bunch of other MMO games I played back then. I love that youre hitting home on the nostalgia. I did also want to mention that i do enjoy hearing more range of emotion from you, specifically how excitable you get or how you play on the joke of not wanting to socialize. A highlight for me was the reaction of the cactus from Ragnarok. Never played the game but your reaction was essentially mine as well. Looking forward to more vids! Thank you for this awesome upload.
Your video is a breath of fresh air for me. I was a broke kid growing up so I used to grind out those old mmo's all day every day. I remember scouring the website for any given game as I waited for it to downloaded to check out all the classes and just being so excited to explore the world. Not only did the video remind me of those days, but the chill vibes and music make it incredibly relaxing to watch. Subscribed!
I too was for some reason hooked on Korean MMOs. MU, Silkroad, Hero, Aion, Dragon Nest, MapleStory, Lost Ark, Black desert, and virtually any game that ends with "online"
good job getting to Knight! Also as for the magnifier thing, there's a class called Merchant that has a skill called Identify which is basically a free identifier. They usually charge you zeny cheaper than a magnifier for them to use their skill on your items.
I will say I'm glad you mentioned the visceral satisfaction of Maplestory's combat - it's what makes it really click with me. From level 1 (or 10 if you're one of those special classes) to level 300 it is a game about one thing: vaporizing innocent, adorable creatures with gigantic hitboxes that make lots of big numbers and cool sounds happen. And I fucking love it! It's basically an incremental game, you grind literally for the opportunity to grind more.
My god... what a nostalgia overload. I would also throw in Dragon Nest, Dragon Saga, Alods... god there SO MANY MMO's. Also the mention of Trickster was definitely unexpected.
OMG not Trickster being mentioned? Is it extremely p2w? Yes! Is the grinding intense? Verily. But so much fun nonetheless!! Please everyone give trickster a chance, you won't regret! It is lore-rich, it has its exclusive drilling system and also TCG, housing, gvg, o/x events, boss hunting, timed hunts, episode quests and a plethora of other things to do, not to mention the soundtrack is really good (synths at its peak) and the art is really colorful and the animations are so smooth! The skills are pretty, the map effects are pretty, it's really visual! Also, it literally screams the 00's aesthetics~
reguardless of the niche maplestory sort of is, its a true talent to be throwing out content this long, this frequently. I guess I have to speak for myself but I feel like others can relate. I found you on one of the related videos of Coppersan and hot damn was it enthralling to get sucked into an even deeper rabbit hole of maplestory that was worth the watch. 👍🏻
I love you so much for this content, I say this every video, but your editing and music choice is just SO SPOT ON! It's like you are in my head sometimes.
i played RO a lot back in my tween years! back in 2004-2007 ish, along with idk, half of the school. spending most of my time on payon dungeon.... oh my god, is that the state of current RO? they did a lot of QoL... wow! i might come back someday
Haha, same. I think i had tried legitimately ALL the MMOs during this era. Even the really crappy ones. I think ROSE has a special place in my heart when i saw people with wings, i begged and begged my parents to buy them for me so i can get faster. RF online had a banger intro and song, thats still stuck in my head to this day. Rappelz (I don't think its exactly Korean, but same goes with Flyff ect... with the GALA group) is one of the few i couldn't get into. There was also MU online which i couldn't get into, Archlord had such a cool premise, and a lot of cool songs, AION online was also amazing. Trickster online is where i got my IGN to this day, as one of the top players was the same name i still use on EVERYTHING. Mabinogi -- i never actually played this game correctly, i'd just sit and play my lute for hours trying to mimic the Velvet Room theme from Persona in-game. Man, the list goes on, and i have so many core memories of me absolutely no-lifing my middle and high school days on these games. I could list so many more just off of memory, too -- but these are *some* of the ones that stick out to me. IJJI, Gpotato, Webzen ect... man those companies sucked, but they were a staple for me.
@@accountname-tu2om I could never get into that game. I tried it so many times back in the day, not only could my Toshiba laptop barely handle it, it was one of the first trash grabs of an MMO 🤣 I did somewhat enjoy the PvP even though it consisted of sitting in one spot with a numbers sponge in front of you 😂
Ragnarok Online is all cute and comfy, then you go into one of the mid-game dungeons and get slapped with all manner of creepy. Korean mmos hold a close place in my heart as it was something i did when taking a break from Phantasy Star Online, Everquest, or FF11. I remember so many, my favorite "Uncharted Waters Online", that might be a Japanese MMO though. There was a bunch of weird outliers Like R.O.S.E and their mech riding merchants, Ace(or space cowboy) with everything being around flying, to Atlantica and it's grid based team building, Heroes of Three Kingdoms with classes having units following them around, and finally Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine. Where demons don't matter because builds revolving around the PC were turbo overpowered. There is so many that I remember playing but never their names. A Mecha mmo with two factions (split between Earth and Mars), a game about a martial arts high school, and so many more.
I love your vids and your editing and production is out of this world. But you did Trickster sooo dirty here. While a lot of the information you got about it is true, you just skipped some of the key aspects of the game in general. The day/night cycle was impactful (certain npcs showed up / banished, one of the bosses was only accessed during night time, etc) and was not just an aesthetic change. Most classes get more in depth right after the 2nd job change which is one of the easiest tasks to get done, going even further into the 3rd job. For example, raccoons were one of the most interesting jobs I came across in any mmo, an evasion tank with card-based skills and a lot of crowd control. I do agree with you saying that you maybe didn't have the patience to get any further into it, but man, you left out A LOT. Besides Trickster, everything was so heartwarming to hear and revisit. Thank you so so so much for this!
12:40 fun fact, rubbings were actually a thing back in the day where people would carve words and then literally rub a stick of charcoal on parchment over the carving to mass produce it. People still do it now as a form of art or preservation of art.
I will never forget my first time playing RO. It was in the really early 2000s my bud from high school told me about it. I make an account get the game going and the NEXT DAY OH BETA OVER.. gone! And its now pay to play. I never made it past lvl 20 iirc. In the beta. A few years later my same high school bud tells me of a p server that we both played for months and it was great. Loved it.

They take me back to that sweet spot era I'm always yelling at friends can never happen again. It's crazy thinking about all the MMOs I'd hop through back in the day. Just SOOOO EXCITED to have a new world to explore and a game to play. Not knowing I'd never get to feel that feeling again. Having no money and going from flash games to MMOs felt like magic. I haven't even started the video yet and I'm so excited for this memory lane trip. Hoping to see some games that were implanted deep into the recesses of my brain. UNLOCK THE MEMORIES FOR ME TOGAIN! THANK YOU!!!!
Got this video recommended to me today and I just want to say you're doing god's work here. Will definitely be downloading an offline copy of this video for archiving purposes because footage of "old" mmos like these are seriously hard to come by. Great stuff man, also love your humour lol.
I don't remember playing Flyff in my childhood, Trickster I played a little but never got very far... now Ragnarok I played a lot but on private servers If I had to choose the most memorable MMOs from my childhood, they would definitely be Maplestory, Grand Chase and Pirate King... and Cosmic Break a little later.(Ragnarok, Wonder King, and several others still had their moments but none of them come close to the other 4) I miss how these games used to be
Togain bro, did you ever play Wonderking and La Tale? Anyone who likes cute cozy korean MMOs would have loved them. Unfortunately their private server scene is dead compared to Maple, Trickster, and RO so they're both pretty forgotten nowadays.
WonderKing was honestly so damn fun back in the day. I managed to hold rank 1 during two of the closed betas and the PvP scene was actually kinda enjoyable for a while before things got a little nutty with the hacks. OGP LaTale was such a fun time, honestly... I loved that game with my very soul. I still think about Mushudragon and miss the guy dearly.
Been waiting 10+ years for Wonderking to come back haha. It just booted up again in Korea, really hoping to play it again in North America one day. I really liked it!
One of the funny thing is that the other branch of the Assist in FLyFF - The Billposter, have the strongest single target skill in the game - Asalraalaikum. Most attack skill in the game have a linear and simple formula that scale off their main attack stat and damage. However, Asalraalaikum have an unique formula that scale off 3 things: ((((Str/10) * Skill Level)*(5 + Current Mp/10) + 150)*0.2) + Player Attack. So what happen is that Force Master(Billposter's advanced 4th job) players would run a build with a bunch of %Max MP and flat MP, coupled with a few STR line as a one shot build/boss killer build.
Philippines cyber cafe/ computer shop theres different eras where a certain game dominated and almost everyone play. Counter strike - late 90s to early 2000s. Ragnarok online - early 2000s to late 2000s. Dota - late 2000s to mid 2010s. Mobile legends - mid 2010s to present. In mobile, i have no idea what people play now in cyber cafe Starcraft, red alert and MU was popular too in 2000s, RAN online and Cabal in 2010s but definitely not even close to popularity of the 4 other games
Late to the conversation but, I played RO religiously in the early 2000s with my friends. What was crazy is that we were all skateboarding during the day and then gaming at night. RO fit in because it was something chill to play after skateboarding and playing games like Counterstrike, day of defeat, and all of the rest. It just hit right at those hours. It was a beautiful experience.
Was looking through your videos and wondered why you hadn't released a new video in abit. Thanks for spending the time on these videos!! You appeal to quite a niche crowd but I hope your following grows esp with the quality you put into them.
Amazing video, I fondly remember growing up with Windslayer which to this day has my favorite pixelized aesthetic, similar to Ragnarok, but I mainly played LaTale from when I was like 12 to about 18, with Windslayer sprinkled in between but not for nearly as much as it got the short end of the stick in terms of 2000's korean MMOs as it got completely shutdown and didn't get popular enough for private servers to keep it alive, although curiously enough the files for the game are out there up for grabs which I found when randomly googling the game when reminiscing! LaTale is still up today although I don't enjoy it at all anymore, anyone that boots it up quickly finds out why, got shoved with overcomplicated systems to the point of no recorgnition while also becoming super complicated.. a shell of what it used to be, an expected result of being a korean MMO that's been since the 2000s and constantly updated like MapleStory. Funnily enough WindSlayer actually got a sequel somehow, with "upgraded" graphics, which were just smoother pixels with an art style more leaning on 3D which wasn't as charming and spme QoL, but that sequel also fell behind shortly after the first unfortunately. I noticed you've already shown LaTale in the vid so you already know about it as it's more popular due to the OGPlanet days and a closer copy of the gargantuan MapleStory, but PLEASE look into WindSlayer 1 and 2 ♥
Summer, 2007. Transitioning from 6th to 7th grade. I stumble across a game on the internet called MAPLESTORY. I tell 3 of my neighbors (1 of them hates it) and we get absolutely addicted to this game until the 2010 big bang. The nostalgic days of daring to leave the neighborhood to go to 7-11/CVS just to buy a Nexon Game Card with the little Kart Rider guy on it. The yelling from our parents, the late night bike ride I did for my friend because his mom banned him from buying Nexon Cash. The sleepovers with Laptops, the non-existent sleep we got due to grinding Kerning PQ all night, the endless conversations we had about 10% scrolling our Work Gloves and Sauna robes, our neighbor un-inviting us to his birthday party because he hated Maplestory that much (LOL), this girl we met online named Rachel5000 from the bay area and we all hung out in the Henesys Pet Park in one party. I cannot express how much fun I had with this MMO as a kid. It will always have an extremely fond place in my heart. RIP Old Maple. I think about it from time to time. So many awesome memories. I wish I could go back sometimes
Maining RM is a.. different gameplay experience for sure! Flyff was MY WHOLE LIFE when I was a teen. I took the friendships and dramas so seriously. Once I got voted Lord of my server and it felt like being the US president. 😂Thank you for this nostalgia journey!
Ragnarok Online and Maplestory are some of the best MMOs I've ever played to date, absolutely wish I could go back in time and play them during their prime time. Glad we have games like OSRS around now.
as an mmo enjoyer Ive tried pretty much every single one. things were simpler back then. every mmo was enjoyable to a degree. RIP PiStory, you had a short life, but an incredible community. and RIP DarkAges. I miss playing back when the game had more than 10 players. I will cherish those years forever ❤
Togain, you cooked with this one. Your hard work REALLY paid off... it was also interesting for me to see how eerily similar our experiences were: always picking the spear/dragon knight class when available, exploring, maining Maplestory but dabbling in Flyff and Trickster, and later trying Ragnarok as an adult. It also sounds like you played some FF14 too, which I recently had a huge binge of before the last expansion came out and sucked. Anyway, sincere thank you from your forever fan; keep up the amazing videos!
The art was definitely a huge part of what attracted me to downloading mmos back in the day, despite the game usually not looking anything close to that most of the time it still gives you a much cooler representation of your character/class in your head. I played a lot of flyff too, and a little bit of ms and ro. first thing i always did was look at the classes and how cool they looked when deciding to try f2p mmos, though i ended up trying pretty much all of them regardless cause no money :)
Holy shit Fly for Fun is a name I literally haven't heard in 20 years I completely forgot about how much I played that (After moving to...Grand Chase and then Mu online? they were all fun but my ADHD ass always got bored after a week)
I played so many of those MMOs/Free games back in the day, I feel bad for people who never got to experience peak Gunbound gaming. I also enjoyed Tales of Pirates, and other MMOs like Atlantica, Silkroad Online and there were some others that maybe weren't korean/chinese but were all around at the time.
I lived in the f2p and private server eco system for such a long time during my kid-teenager phase so I've experience so many korean mmos lol. I have fond memroeis of Ragnarok private server and the starriing zones tracks in maple story. Maple story and Ragnarok had such nice music.
I played all of these games. Still occasionally mess around on random RO Private servers like twice a year just for the nostalgia. Talesweaver was another MMO in the same genre that me and my friends played too.
Gosh I loved Trickster Online... I sadly couldn't get far but!!!.. the grind and art was an awesome experience; which is then how I viewed other MMOs. My friend paid for WOW years back but was in love with FLYff and even more with Trickster/Maple Story. (he was the one that showed me these games). I did try MapleStory and thought it did look pretty but for whatever reason I couldn't get into it(I should try again)...but I did adore MapleStory 2; was so sad it closed down. I still like Asian MMOs to this day; Im happy fans keep some of the old games alive via private servers

This was also a time for arena based games too, like S4, Gunz, Gunbound, stuff like that. Ah, what a time to be alive~
You have such great editing and production value for such a still small channel dude, hope the channel blows up soon!
LaTale gang??? Where you at! I was the Top 3 pvpers back in the day as a bard/minstrel 🎸
🫡🫡‼️‼️ still play latale every now and then
RO private servers were incredible, I remember it as fondly as OSMS servers, I wish there were servers active to this day
id love to see more vids in this style!! i used to play a lot of mabinogi, pangya, rumble fighter, latale, and tales runner!! of course, maplestory, flyff, ragnarok, and trickster were also a big staple of my childhood too!!
Omg you played tales runner?? No way!! Fellow tales runner players are so rare to find omg ;~;
@@RavenEuphie i used to be obsessed lol, it was so fun. sometimes i miss it tbh, glad to see someone else who played too!!
@zweihanderblue haha yeah, I do like to revisit it sometimes, thankfully people have made private serves for it despite it being shut down in the u.s.
Gpotato tales runner was the good old days.
There's something so special about the soundtrack of 00s online games. They just feel so otherworldly, but also familiar and inviting.
They usually charge you zeny cheaper than a magnifier for them to use their skill on your items.
holy shi, this is it. My gaming nostalgia has become internet history
Also the mention of Trickster was definitely unexpected.
being from the desert myself, I can confirm that the cactus sound at 1:00:28 is entirely accurate to real life.
Unrelated, but still about cute and cozy things: I see that Donna Poster! Love that dudes art! He does a lot of the stuff for my local game store!
For someone who started playing private server of trickster because of childhood nostalgia, i was pleasantly suprised its included in the list
Omg yes! I grew up on MapleStory, Flyff and RO and I absolutely love them. I still play them to this day!
they are so bad though

@@vividly94 Remember Silk Road? Damn, that was trashy.
Thank you so so so much for this!
you’re doing amazing with this stuff togain. I only played ragnarok but this whole video still managed to grab my attention. Keep it up!
12:40 fun fact, rubbings were actually a thing back in the day where people would carve words and then literally rub a stick of charcoal on parchment over the carving to mass produce it.
People still do it now as a form of art or preservation of art.
Maplestory, Trickster, Gunbound and La Tale were literally my childhood games.
Can't believe others played Trickster Online.
The Flyff and MapleStory pipeline is real! I will always hold these silly games dear to me
I will never forget my first time playing RO. Loved it.
NEW TOGAIN MIXTAPE DROP!!! WITH AN ALBUM COVER THAT SENT ME BACK TO 2006!!!! I LOVE IT!
Genuinely appreciative of you and your videos.
I played maplestory, trickster, and mabinogi as my childhood MMOs.
I played a lot of Fiesta Online growing up, and the servers are still active to this day!
Got this video recommended to me today and I just want to say you're doing god's work here. Will definitely be downloading an offline copy of this video for archiving purposes because footage of "old" mmos like these are seriously hard to come by. Great stuff man, also love your humour lol.
Man, seing all these RO clips really trigger some nostalgia. I remember that I used to spam Lord of Vermillion and Storm Gust in Prontera
I don't remember playing Flyff in my childhood, Trickster I played a little but never got very far... now Ragnarok I played a lot but on private servers
If I had to choose the most memorable MMOs from my childhood, they would definitely be Maplestory, Grand Chase and Pirate King... and Cosmic Break a little later.(Ragnarok, Wonder King, and several others still had their moments but none of them come close to the other 4)
I miss how these games used to be
Super level up on the editing! Holy moly!
Maplestory, flyff, Mu online, Fiesta, dragon nest are all the mmos that I've played back in the day, good ol' times
12:28 It's important that the Fleeb is rubbed because the Fleeb, has all of the Fleeb juice
holy moly torginon the microphone man has returned. I've seen you reference Trickster online and flyff in your earlier videos. Hyped for this one.
Trickster's music, designs, and artwork were so lovely. It's such a shame to see it fade away into history.
Togain bro, did you ever play Wonderking and La Tale? Anyone who likes cute cozy korean MMOs would have loved them. Unfortunately their private server scene is dead compared to Maple, Trickster, and RO so they're both pretty forgotten nowadays.
this!!!!
I played the open beta for wonderking and loved it and was hurt when it launched and wiped all the beta characters
In mobile, i have no idea what people play now in cyber cafe
Starcraft, red alert and MU was popular too in 2000s, RAN online and Cabal in 2010s but definitely not even close to popularity of the 4 other games
This content is always so insanely good. Keep making stuff it really is great!
Played a new korean mmo every 2-3 weeks for about 5 years, they just kept coming out. Nostalgic seeing a lot of the games I jumped in during launch.
trickster
I got a flyff ad while watching lol
Late to the conversation but, I played RO religiously in the early 2000s with my friends. What was crazy is that we were all skateboarding during the day and then gaming at night. RO fit in because it was something chill to play after skateboarding and playing games like Counterstrike, day of defeat, and all of the rest. It just hit right at those hours. It was a beautiful experience.
Spent a phenomenal amount of time with MS/Trickster/Flyff, thanks for tickling all the nostalgia bits.
Was looking through your videos and wondered why you hadn't released a new video in abit. Thanks for spending the time on these videos!! You appeal to quite a niche crowd but I hope your following grows esp with the quality you put into them.
omg the nostalgia hits deep with this one. even Trickster is on the list!! Thank you so much
Spent most of my childhood (10-15) in Korean MMO. MapleStory beta, till new leaf was released. Flyff, and trickster
My glob how much I loved flyff and ragnarok growing up!
I still go back to them every so often
I used to LOVE playing Flyff as a kid, that game had such a cozy vibe to it
Omfg I had been trying to remember which MMO it was I played years ago and it was Tricker! Thank you!
Hey if you need an idea for another video, you should cover all of the rare collectible items from OSMS, used to love collecting those items.
Flyff and IRO. Two of my favorite childhood games i still go back to every once in a while. Glad to see somebody do a video on them ^_^
Amazing video, I fondly remember growing up with Windslayer which to this day has my favorite pixelized aesthetic, similar to Ragnarok, but I mainly played LaTale from when I was like 12 to about 18, with Windslayer sprinkled in between but not for nearly as much as it got the short end of the stick in terms of 2000's korean MMOs as it got completely shutdown and didn't get popular enough for private servers to keep it alive, although curiously enough the files for the game are out there up for grabs which I found when randomly googling the game when reminiscing! I noticed you've already shown LaTale in the vid so you already know about it as it's more popular due to the OGPlanet days and a closer copy of the gargantuan MapleStory, but PLEASE look into WindSlayer 1 and 2 ♥
I love how "I've barely played this game, but it captures my childhood so well" seems to be a common experience for people growing up with KMMOs.
Man the quality of your videos is getting higher and higher. Amazing video, please keep it up
Summer, 2007.
Man all these old games. I absolutely loved Angels Online back when it was new and booming!
PURR IdleOn!!!! the first ever sponsored content ive ever FULLY watched looks interesting!
Trickster looks so cool, I love the artstyle. I wish I would have known about it back then!
I still daydream about the bill poster class from time to time.
I loved being able to switch between a staff and knuckles for buffing then attacking.
Damn I was hoping for WonderKing to make an appearance, basically maplestory but reskinned lol
I feel like you branching into MMO mini-docs is the endgame for how this channel completely explodes in subscribers
Trickster Online was such a good game... I miss it every single day. There's plenty of private servers out there but I really hoped for a re-release
Holy shit Fly for Fun is a name I literally haven't heard in 20 years
I completely forgot about how much I played that (After moving to...Grand Chase and then Mu online? they were all fun but my ADHD ass always got bored after a week)
i was already happy that u even mentioned trickster online but sponsored by idleon/lava??? instant subscribe and liked
I saw a clip of Lineage 1 and my god the nostalgia rush. Good times, I'm glad I got to play those games growing up.
ToP was so so good
Love the music selection. It's like we shared the same childhood.
I lived in the f2p and private server eco system for such a long time during my kid-teenager phase so I've experience so many korean mmos lol. I have fond memroeis of Ragnarok private server and the starriing zones tracks in maple story.
Maple story and Ragnarok had such nice music.
I love Luna Online. I think I made it to the end game by getting the third-job as archmage. A lot of grinding and kiting, but so much fun back then.
I still like Asian MMOs to this day; Im happy fans keep some of the old games alive via private servers
whoa the cosmic smash OST went crazy there that brought me back haha
I never got past level 40 in Ragnarok Online because I spent so much time chatting and wandering around without leveling lol it was so fun!
