The best at what? They did have some decent songs but they were never original or proficient as musicians or song writers and Jagger scraggly voice can really get unbearable.

Ask any guitar player what they think of Keith Richards, Mick Taylor or Ron Wood. Ask any drummer what they think of Charlie Watts. Ask songwriter about their lyrical skills. My assessment of them after all of these years is that they are a good garage band and I like about 30 of their songs, that's it. Keith stole guitar licks from Ry Cooder and Keith got much of his sound from open tuning, which is a trick that even I use (one of my guitars is almost always tuned to an open G chord). The Stones are a raggedy somewhat crude band that attained success AFTER the Beatles broke up and The Doors and The Byrds fell apart and Cream disbanded and after the newness of Jethro Tull, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Black Oak Arkansas, Ted Nugent and some others began to wane. They had excellent but deceptive promotion as "the world's greatest rock band" but gaslighting is nothing new (remember "Pet Rocks", margarine, vegetable oil, Tricky Dicky Nixon - actually it was the Dems who were tricky & wicked, etc. etc.)

From early 1969 to late 1970 I was on the West Coast (LA area) and I knew of no one who was into The Rolling Stones - the Beatles, yes and Traffic & Cream, yes and Jethro Tull, yes but the Stones, no. Same thing when I came to Upstate New York in late 1970, except for ONE person. We were partying to numerous bands but not to the Stones. I and others went to see Creedence in concert and Jethro Tull and other bands but the only thing we knew for sure about The Stones is that they were a pretentious loud-mouthed band who took rock music to a new low with their disastrous Altamont concert in late 1969. Right after that concert I met a hippie in Southern California who had been there and he was still reeling from the violence and bad vibes at that demonic concert. It really stressed him and his "old lady" out. It was the anti-Woodstock and the Rolling Stones are to blame!

Yeah that was a good one, those were the days. Later they got low on possible song titles and subjects, now they're down to things like "Angry", taking a random word and writing a song about it. It does require creativity to make a song about a single word though.
