- Yesterday (5/12/2017), the SU-57 made the first flight to test the new 'izdeliye 30' engines!
In this video, Sergey Bogdan and Sergey Chernyshev (Сергей Богдан, Сергей Чернышев), both first-class test pilots of the Sukhoi Company perform an amazing flight display with the latest and most modern russian 5th generation fighter aircraft, the Sukhoi SU-57 during MAKS 2017 at the Ramenskoe airport in Zhukovskiy.
The Sukhoi Su-57, previously designated T-50 (Сухой Су-57 / T-50) is a single-seat, twin-engine, stealth fighter aircraft with multirole capability but designed for air superiority and attack operations. This jet aircraft is the product of the PAK-FA (ПАК-ФА, Перспективный авиационный комплекс фронтовой авиации, literally "Prospective Aviation Complex of Frontline Aviation"), a fifth-generation fighter programme of the Russian Air Force. The first prototype performed the maiden flight on January 29, 2010. Deliveries of production aircraft to the Russian Air Force are expected to begin in 2018.
The fighter is intended to succeed the MiG-29 and Su-27 in the Russian Air Force and to serve as the basis for the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) while complementing the recently built fleets of SU-35S and SU-30SM. The initial production batch are to be delivered with a highly upgraded variant of the AL-31F engine, extensively used by the Su-27 family while a totally new turbofan jet powerplant is being designed from scratch. In fact the first prototype of this engine has already been fitted into a SU-57 airframe and has already begun testing.
The Su-57 has a blended wing body fuselage and incorporates all-moving horizontal and vertical stabilizers. The aircraft incorporates thrust vectoring nozzles and has adjustable leading edge vortex controllers (LEVCONs) that improve high angle of attack behaviour. The advanced flight control system and thrust vectoring nozzles make the aircraft highly maneuverable in both pitch and yaw, enabling it to perform post-stall maneuvers such as the Pugachev's Cobra and the Bell maneuver, along with doing flat rotations with little altitude loss. The aircraft's high cruising speed and normal operating altitude is also expected to give it a significant kinematic advantage over older fighter jet generations.
The aircraft will make extensive use of composites; on the first prototype, composites comprise 25% of the structural weight and almost 70% of the outer surface. Weapons are housed in two tandem main weapons bays between the engine nacelles and smaller bulged, triangular-section bays near the wing root. Internal weapons carriage eliminates drag from external stores and enables higher performance compared to external carriage, as well as enhancing stealth. This is the same trick used by the American F-22 Raptor and F-35 JSF/Lightning II. Advanced engines and aerodynamics enable the Su-57 to supercruise, which is the ability to maintain sustained supersonic flight without using afterburners. Combined with a high fuel load, the fighter has a supersonic range of over 1,500 km, more than twice that of the Su-27. In the Su-57's design, Sukhoi addressed what it considered to be the F-22's limitations, such as its inability to use thrust vectoring to induce roll and yaw moments and a lack of space for weapons bays between the engines, and complications for stall recovery if thrust vectoring fails.

The T50 PAK-FA is a beautiful looking fighter! Awesome how the rudderless, vertical tails are completely movable as a whole. I hope these come to fruition! Crazy manoeuvrability and jaw-dropping aesthetics!

@CarlosFlores-uc7nh they look similar because they follow the same laws of physics. They follow the same aerodynamic flow as everywhere else. Ofc alot of design aspects would be followed. And they have to compete technological wise. And since technology everywhere is pretty much the same. It would have similar specs

@@mikes7446 no they won't 🤣, the f22 cross radar section is practically 0.005 basically that of a mosquito, the su57 is like a medium size bird. This is information you can find yourself. They only have 8-10 prototypes of the su57, its a nice ass jet but it does not have an advantage over the f22. You can't even see the f22 on radar till 10-25 miles roughly and the su57 i think you can spot it practically over 50 miles away

Russian planes have always been my favorites ! Mig 29, Su 27, Su 33, An 225 and now the new Su 57. They have that combination of efficient, simple, reliable russian engineering, almost « raw », and at the same time they look so sexy.

It is beautiful plane(su57 felon) would love to know the capabilities of this aircraft once it gets its intended engines. At the moment it looks pretty good for a 5th gen fighter powered by 4th generation fighter engines.

False. Mass production did not start but project is not canceled and first units have been ordered already for use in the RuAF.
@Cole Ramsey it wasn't cancelled. The F35 is the one to be cancelled soon as USAF admitted its failure. Russia doesn't mass produce something that doesn't work like what Americans did with the F35 😂😂😂
One of these days, I need to go to Russia for the sole purpose of seeing an airshow there. I really want relations between Russia and the USA to move past the Cold War in a serious and meaningful way.

This is God damn amazing to watch..!! How can a pilot get's these skills, when a jet engine becomes a hovering craft in the skies above? I watch a great deal of these YT vd's from various air shows and so forth, but this is perhaps the most extreme show off, of what a modern jet fighter is capable of in terms of maneuvering...looks pretty damn awesome. 現在號稱先進的相控陣雷達波段也是X波段，不管號稱蒐鎖距離是200或400公里，問題是一樣，找不著。
地面空管（米波）發現目標，你飛上去了，結果你自己駕駛的匿蹤戰鬥機的雷達找不著，五代機對著五代機，這仗如何打？
探究五代迷思，原來這仗不是這樣對抗的。
誘敵，五代機上都有配有龍伯透鏡，我抓到三代機了，就打開這面鏡，讓你以為我也是三代機，你開機蒐鎖了，以為可以鎖定了，這鏡就把它關了，突然到口的鴨子不見了，接著你的雷達告警器響了，答案！？！
答案是，威攝。
五代機的時代，沒有五代機，這場仗基本結束。
三代機縱然裝了五代機標配的相控陣雷達，飛上了天，對匿縱戰鬥機而言依然構成不了威脅。
後語，35之於22多了什麼？20之於35那裡一樣？
除了對地，對空它多了一層對於熱訊跡的探索。

One of the secrets that the Americans don't want you to know about their stealth programs is the fact that they rely on AWACS aircraft for finding targets. The radar signature would be easily picked up by passive radars or be targeted by anti-radiation passive homing sensors on missiles. For them to have true stealth, they need to have their radars turned off. The Russians have also thought extensively about their stealth fighter program and decided that making their aircraft full stealth would sacrifice many of the key aspects of sukhoi fighter aircraft and be useless due to reliance on data links from a variety of sources to provide them data instead of the plane using their sensors to collect it themselves.

Gentlemens on these aircraft quite a while ago tested optical-photonic radar , so they drum all the old Western radar, enemy radar can detect, just by the fact that they work on different physical principles , the pilot did not just see the blip on the radar , the radar predstavljaet pilot 3D picture of enemy aircraft.
Russians are known for decades for the quality and reliability of their radar technologies, so I won't be too concerned about the way they have dealt with US stealth technology. Only dumbdown US fanboys can think that F22 is the ultimate aircraft. Even an F117 was shot down by a old russian build version AA missile in Serbia...

Russia is an innovation powerhouse in aircraft design yet with little resources. Excellent.
Indeed. It would be even greater if they managed to expand that industrial capabilities into other sectors. I think they try but too slow. Probably bad economical leadership from the Kremlin. I hope they solve it soon!
You need to consider the fact that Russia was practically non-existent just 25 years ago. They came up a long way and at the this moment they are managing to rise more despite the sanctions. One can love or hate RF but no one should try to diminish their accomplishment.
Quite a number of "new projects" in their military are actually projects from '90's period. Projects that were started as USSR. Imagine what would be with those ideas if USSR wasn't dismantled and whole country pushed in dire situation?
You are totally right.
Their money reserve is becoming empty though. Luckily the country has no debt.
They are using the money they have to renovate their military in key areas before it's too late. I don't think it's a bad move but I also think that the Kremlin wants to control all wealth generation too tightly and doesn't really let the russian economy flourish by itself so I have conflicting opinions about their policies. I am still hoping that they will improve this at some point. They are doing good things in other areas.
They have huge potential, they could be, they should be self sufficient. EU is shooting it's foot by imposing sanctions to RF and by following insane politics of the US. Russians don't need this, they need peace, for business and trade because they have EVERYTHING at their disposal (9 time zones for crying out loud). More territory?-Yeah right!
