As someone with osteoarthritis in my knees, I put on a lot of weight, blamed the disease, and spent years feeling sorry for myself. Then one day I saw an article about the Paralympics, and realised there are people competing at an Olympic level who literally don't even have any legs, any one of whom could metaphorically kick my ass in their respective discipline. And it occurred to me that if they can do it, with such a severe handicap, then what's my excuse? So like Jocko, I stopped making excuses, and now I just do it.
Over the last two years of progressive weighted calisthenics, I can say wholeheartedly that my best days were the days I felt like going the LEAST. Cold damp California winter nights in the park. It just became second nature.
Regardless of the guest, material, etc. I love how TDL cultivates and maintains a posture of humility. Following TDL journey, material, and suggestions have been a game changer for my physical and brain health since 2018. Side note: Jocko’s book “Extreme Ownership” is relevant, motivating, and applicable to anything you do in life.

@@RockhillfarmYT I second this comment. Ads give the creator a way to make money for producing content. So without that incentive this content would cost. The other option is to pay for premium and never see ads I think. A portion of that income goes to the creators portioned based on views. If you’re pre-monetization, UA-cam will run ads outside of your control randomly. So I hope the original commenter here will change his mind so the small creators can grow if their content is good.
I thought this talk was pretty good right up until the end. His idea of history is childishly cartoonish and his assertion the "the kids were fine" is moronic. He only knows one thing, discipline, and for those that lack that for whatever reason, he has things to teach, but his none-answer shows that the ultra-discipline approach is also a way to compensate for something else that is lacking.
@@patrikkarlsson9463 interesting comment, I didn’t watch the video as I don’t support jocko. Would you care to elaborate on his idea of history? And the kids were fine part? Would love to hear more detail without having to listen to another hour of this guy lol
He’s describing the way life is for some of us. Lots of professions - aviation, maritime, military, medical - have lifestyles that aren’t conducive to dual parenting. Not all of us have the luxury of being there for our kids all the time. Judge all you want, but he’s helped raise 4 kids who from all appearances seem to be happy, loving, and successful.
How is it that people who talk for a living and all they do is UA-cam videos and podcasts not know how to have good audio quality. Take your lips off of the microphone and just speak normally
what is the goal though, to impress women with your huge muscles? to brag about how much you can lift? to win a body building championship? Let's get real, you don't need to do so much training to be healthy, happy, and strong. You don't need to do so much to lose fat. So what is the reason to want to gain so much large muscle mass? It has to be a macho thing, a thing to impress, to brag about, what is your reason because I don't understand the reason when you have lost all your fat and have a great body...
ThAT is what I do. I motivate to go to the gym even when people say 3 days is enough. I go when is 3, 4 or 7 days....I know my body's limit......I love to work out...............MINDY

I'd wager to guess that the pain has decreased considerably in your knees as a result as well. Not gone completely, but less.
Obviously, their knees don't hurt 😁

"Just do it" is one of the best statements. Procrastination is the worst thing; I would know it.
I stopped making excuses for why I can’t and started making ways of why i can
In other words, listen to your body, it will tell you what you do/don't need or can handle.
Balance is what apposes maximizing one item. Optimization is likely a part of balance in that it reduces how much one item demands.
