Yeah I wish they had played that up a bit more. The reaction is so subtle it's hardly there. I think Strickland only had enough time to conjure an "oh shit" in his head before Amos kills him. It's really a scene for the fans because we realize waayy before Strickland does that he's a deadman.
I hadn't understood the love for Amos til this moment. All I had seen was the guy who seemed deeply disturbed and a bit unhinged. This scene turned me to, "Oh damn, this guy IS awesome. Dark, ready to beat the hell out someone as a first measure, but he is ride or die loyal and will fall on the moral sword to protect others."
Amos is loyal to a fault. He knows what he is capable of living with and he knows Prax will regret this even if he is justified. So Amos takes the burden from him and puts in on him, cause, he can live with it.
I love they Amos always had this complexity to him. He’s not just the muscle. He’s very aware he’s messed up, and knows when it’s ok for someone to stand on their two feet, and when they really should sit one out
Knowing Amos enough, there is no suspense here, not that that's a bad thing. It's just satisfyingly consistent. As soon as Amos says "you're not that guy", I instantly thought "you are that guy though."
Yeah. He wasn't saving Strickland's life... he was saving Prax' soul. Strickland deserved to die... but not by the hands of a loving father. By the hands of someone who's genuinely been through Hell, and he figures the best thing for him to do with his messed-up life is to keep people like Prax out of Hell, and putting people like Strickland in.
Actually the best for this scene is the setup where Prax tells his daughter that Amos is "his best friend in the whole world". How true that simple statement was, is reflected right here.
I feel like everyone in this scene did their part amazingly. Even the actor playing the doctor, going from scared, to relief and thankfulness, to realization. Really well put together.
I was looking for that this time but the sound cuts out for several second before Amos shows up so it was perfectly shot to keep the tension high while letting Amos slip in to ‘rectify’ the situation.
@@gateauxq4604 It does feel like a discontinuity. Perhaps it would be better to show a glimpse of the door opening behind Prax, out of focus, not revealing Amos until he puts his hand on the gun.

Amos, well most of the characters on TE are a " how to" on building arcs and backstories. Its great that someone finally did it right. Another example is Cas, hes a Martian, a navy vet, conflicting loyalties, a great pilot, he likes old blues, hes brave, hes east Indian with a texas accent because he grew up on a part of Mars where mix of Texans and Indians happened to end up and there is more. What other shows add this many dimensions to their characters?
Even classic Picard liked Earl grey tea and film noir mysteries cosplay but is quite shallow compared to Cas, Amos and Naomi. Maybe science fiction television has come a long way since introducing "main character's relative plotlines," like in Star Trek where Worf's brother shows up or Picard's brother's vineyard or Deanna's mother...etc
It's one of the nicest things Amos did for anyone. He basically took the burden off Prax for punishing a really bad guy and took it upon himself knowing that if Prax did it it would destroy him as a human, but have little to no effect on Amos. Even though it's still murder in cold blood it shows how Amos can be actually caring in this scene. A true anti-hero.
