My Friesan husband is from Winsum. We’re leaving soon to ride the 11 city bike tour. Can’t wait and looking forward to some island time too. Love me some fresh suikerbole in a few weeks. Thanks
Ah wonderful; it's supposed to be pretty good weather for the next few weeks, so I think it's going to be a wonderful bike tour. And yess, enjoy all the tasty Fryske Sûkerbôle!
@@ronaldvanhemiksem3544 true, there is a Winsum in the provincial area of Groningen. From Wikipedia. Winsum is a village in Waadhoeke municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,038 in January 2017.[3] The Miedema Factory is located there and has produced many types of farm equipment. Back in the day it was horse drawn hay wagons and now mostly potato equipment. My husband was born in that family house.
You're very welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Friesland is absolutely stunning, I can guarantee that you will love it when you have the chance to visit.
Don't forget to visit the small city of Dokkum. It is ranked among the 5 most beautiful fortified cities in The Netherlands (according to votes from 70.000 ANWB members)! There you will also find a lot of tulips and other flowers in the old town during April and early May. Go on a walk on the Bolwerken (old protection walls) and you will see them. Great video btw!
Thank you! Yes, Dokkum is a fantastic city; very cosy and wonderful to walk around in. And, there tons of small local shops to see and other fun activities to do🙌🏻😄
So happy to have discovered your blog and your channel! i am Eurasian, Friesland being my maternal origin. We were there just last year and so grateful that we went while we could! Thank you for the amazing work you're doing! Just subbed to *both*! ;) Doei from Los Angeles!
I'm so glad to hear that you've had to chance to visit Friesland! Thank you so much for all your kind words, I hope you stay safe in this weird time :)
My Van Loon ancestors are from Friesland, especially Leeuwarden in 1593, Meppel, Steenwijk, Oldemarkt, Minnertsga(?) and Oostermeer where my great-great grandfather was born. Trying to figure out how to get any records before 1593. I visited Leeuwarden one day on a photographic/speaking tour. I gave a speech at the former princess palace. I loved the De Waag area. Hope to go back some day.
So it seems like your Van Loon family is from the provinces of Friesland, Overijssel and Drenthe. Getting records from before 1593 is really, really tricky. I did find the following websites: allefriezen.nl/en/ (for friesland), www.drentsarchief.nl/onderzoeken/genealogie/zoeken/persons?ss=%7B%22q%22:%22van%20loon%22%7D (for Drenthe), www.wiewaswie.nl/nl/zoeken/ and www.openarch.nl/search.php?top&name=van+loon&number_show=10&sort=4&start=30 . I hope this helps. And I'm very glad you enjoyed visiting Leeuwarden, the entire Friesland province is truly beautiful!

I would like to visit the Netherlands and especially Friesland some day as My mother was born there. And we have some family there as well. (Don't really know them yet) If I wanted to start learning some of the language would you recommend I learn Dutch or Friesian?
@@livenfree So I'd say Dutch, and then once you have a better grasp of Dutch I would continue towards Frisian. The reason being is that not everyone in Friesland speaks Frisian (and there are tons of dialects within Friesland and the Frisian language that sound completely different than standard Frisian). Also, most Dutch people do not understand Frisian, so then you'd only be able to communicate in Friesland.
You are pronouncing the R differently when you say Friesland, sounds like German and French R.. Am I wrong? Is the Friesian language very close to German?
Ohh, I don’t notice that on myself haha. Friesland is the Dutch word for the province, in Frisian the name is Fryslân. But, I did some research and it seems like the Dutch pronunciation of the letter R is mostly the same as in French and German. The Frisian language is closest related to English actually, but since it’s a West- Germanic language the German language definitely had its influences in the language too.
I am a Afrikaner from South Africa, recently found out my genetics are mostly of Frisian decent even my surname. XD ,, would love to come see the whole Netherlands one day, and if could stay there.
You will love The Netherlands and Friesland, as well as the other provinces, are beautiful. While it's a tiny country, I'm glad that we have so much to offer for everyone to see :)
@@vedpurankikathaye5981 You're going to love it there! In generally Friesland is pretty rural, so there are endless of meadows to look at and nature reserves there :)

John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
