PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH PORK CHOPS
Вставка

- Pennsylvania Dutch cooking differs from other Amish cooking in other states because we seem to do sweet and sour much more. WE utilize fruit a lot, while other Amish communities out in the Midwest like OH tend to do more with canned soups. This is one of my favorite pork chop dishes that can be made for a couple, of a whole bunch of folks and is always crowd pleasing and simple!
PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH PORK CHOPS
Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
6 bone-in pork loin chops (3/4 inch thick and 8 ounces each)
1/2 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 tablespoons honey
1-1/2 teaspoons ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cornstarch---optional
2 tablespoons water--------optional
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°.
In a large skillet, heat butter over medium heat; brown pork chops on both sides.
Using a slotted spoon, transfer to an ungreased 13x9-in. baking dish.
Combine pineapple juice, ketchup, vinegar, honey, mustard and salt; add to drippings.
Cook and stir until mixture comes to a boil.
Pour over chops.
Bake, uncovered, until a thermometer reads 145°, 15-20 minutes.
Let chops stand 5 minutes before serving.
If sauce is too watery for you, thicken with the instructions below.
In a small saucepan, combine cornstarch and water; stir in pan juices. Bring to a boil; cook and stir until thickened, 1-2 minutes.
Serve with pork chops.

I like a glaze instead of a sauce, thanx for the recipe. Love your turquoise jewelry btw.
Yes! Thank you!
Going to try this for something different. I'm glad you explained about the sweet and sour I remember something in my childhood about Grandma making pork chops that were very different from the way mom made them. Grandma's background was the Amish Pennsylvania Dutch background.
What nice memories! Glad I could help!
Interesting. I will have to try this. Thanks for the recipe.
You're welcome!
Looks almost as beautiful as the lady that prepared them ! My wife and just decided we are going to give this a try tonight with some greenbeans and real cornbread. Thank You !

Hi, Helga! I'm from Snyder County and we all went to Knoebel's last night. We come in on Rt. 61 and always pasted Masser's and I told my husband to stop there for an early supper. We went in the chicken shack by mistake! but they were nice about it. We husband told the waitress we came to their restaurant on your recommendation. She hadn't heard of Helga's PA cooking (Imagine that?!?) She wrote it down and said she was going to tell her boss. They should give you a free dinner when you go again. LOL!
LOL! I should explain that the chicken and rib place (decent ribs) is next to the main restaurant where they have good chicken and waffles, and great breakfast with their own pork. The market and meat shop is further down 61 towards Shamokin on the right. next time, bring a cooler and go get some excellent bacon, kielbasa loaf and pork chops, LOL!
@@PennsylvaniacookingBlogspot Thanks for the tip! Hope to go to Knoebel's again soon.
I use to make something like this with Heinz 57 and pineapples.
Sounds good too!

That looks so good I'm going to be trying that the next time I go home. so I was wondering I've seen pork chops with sauerkraut and I've seen this recipe for pork chops. I was wondering if there are any other Pennsylvania Dutch pork chop recipes that you could share. I love your channel by the way

Thank you!
Looks like a desert !
Well, they are a sweet and sour, LOL!
Lovely
Thank you!
I always love all your recipes. My Meemaw and MiMi always cooked the Pennsylvania Dutch way for me as a young kid back in the day. But what I really want to know here is this….what’s the story behind that ring? I live in the south now and I really appreciate beautiful turquoise. The size and clarity of the ring you’re wearing is amazing. That is an amazing stone. Think I saw some turquoise on your wrist as well. You are just full of surprises!!!! Cheers from Knoxville TN.
Thank you! Well, while I have some genuine turquoise and silver that I keep for nice, this is cheap Paparazzi for $5, designed by a company in Utah. Everything is $5, and it looks great, isn't made with junk so doesn't turn your skin colors and if something happens to it, I don't cry, LOL. From Paparazzi...There is a rainbow of faux turquoise stone ( likely howlite or sandstone) that is a base stone treated to reflect a color and that treatment reveals the crackled, veined finish. The stones are not cracked in any way but reveal the matrix of the stone and colorant process. There is also reconstituted turquoise that can be occasionally used. I have a friend who is a consultant and so very accessible, LOL! My mother and I also carry Seneca Nation and love native jewelry. I have some beaded work from my great grandmother. But we love the silver, coral and turquoise. We are from the Turtle clan (Mom's father and grandparents), Seneca Nation, so turtles have importance to me and you will see me where them quite a bit. I just love it because it's pretty and doesn't break the bank!
Those look amazing. I know I would just love that .
They're really good!
The pork chops look delicious! I love your ring. May I ask if it's Peruvian Amazonite?
