Mixing the sugars with the vinegar beforehand until sugar dissolved would save time.
If I'm going to need bacon pieces in a recipe I cut it up before I cook it. It saves making a mess when trying to chop crispy bacon. It seems to cook faster and more evenly.

I love sweet & sour red cabbage! Grew up on it, unfortunately I'm the only one in my family now who likes it, so it doesn't make it to my plate often. Thanks for the video, could almost taste it from here! LOL.
Gonna have to get in on the Cast-Iron Wednesday thing, I do most of my cooking in iron

While I think it would still be tasty, it wouldn't taste quite the same. Red cabbage has a stronger taste than green cabbage that is more mellow, and it's also tougher. So if you do it with green cabbage, you probably wouldn't need to cook it as long. I'll have to try it with green and see what it's like, LOL! Thanks for watching!

    Hi Helga
Me again. My wife and I had a dear friend named Jane, God rest her soul. Jane and her husband were old farm people in our Grange. Anyway, Jane made a baked casserole called Sweet Potatoes and Apples. It was worth dying for. We have tried a number of times to replicate it, but unsuccessfully . Have you ever heard of it? Can you make it for your viewers? There seems to be some secret to getting it correct? We've NEVER gotten it to taste right?
    Thanks.
    God bless:
    Dave

So, I'll add notes to the directions below that should help you get a similar result in the crockpot. Hope you like it!
      DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, stir the cider vinegar and sugars until sugars are dissolved. -----Still do this.
Add cabbage; toss to coat. Set aside for 10 minutes.---Still do this.
Meanwhile, in a large frying pan or dutch oven with lid, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. --Still do this.
Remove bacon to paper towels to drain.
the drippings left in the pan, sauté apple and onion until tender, 5 to 10 minutes.--Take the drippings an put in a heated crockpot. add the onion and apple and let them sauté in the drippings with crockpot on high until onions are translucent.
Stir in water and cabbage mixture. -----Then still do this, adding to the crockpot.
Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 35 to 40 minutes. -------Stir in the remaining ingredients.----This is where you will have to experiment to when the cabbage is tender. I'd expect 2-3 hrs on high.
Sprinkle with reserved bacon before serving.

Your food looks delicious but I have a quick question, when you add the seasoning halfway through simmering you say @ 7:03 add red wine vinegar and the instructions in the description lists white wine vinegar, I was just wondering which one it is? Keep up the good looking work!

    • @PennsylvaniacookingBlogspot
      @PennsylvaniacookingBlogspot Рік тому +1

My mistake in writing it, i will correct that. Red wine vinegar is more desirable for this, but in a pinch, you can use the white! Thank you!
