Hi “Will” fellow narrowboat owner here. Found you through your video you did for A. B. ‘s channel. Nice to see there are people out on the cut who have an idea about what’s actually going on, I was honestly beginning to think I was the only one! Best wishes and good luck mate 👍
Looks like a real faff. Wish I'd gone with a cassette or compost now! Mine only seems to smell when I flush. Just moved aboard two days ago and still at the brokerage marina. They don't do pumpout so haven't asked them about it. The previous owner said he had pumped it before sale, but I have no proof of that. Mine doesn't even seem to have a gauge. Fun and games!
Luckily mine doesn't smell at all now. I've used a good toilet blue and stopped putting tissue down the toilet. I have a separate bin for that. Life on boats is never easy. 😂 🤣
Hi Will. Thanks for the great video. I have just replaced all the hoses and re-routed some of them. The pump out was worst as it had a loop in it which contained loads of ***** when I cut through it. Just a couple of things to help. Chatting to the guy at Leesan he said dip the end of the hose in boiling water to soften as a hair dryer may make them brittle. Certainly worked. Also it is cheaper to go to their place and buy/collect. I got good discounts.
Oh no you had that job did you? I tried hot water but it was impossible once I connected one end you know. Top tip wrap all the pipes in plastic then tape over them all the way along. Mine smell again already. I went to the main shop near the canal. Also make sure your pipes don't droop otherwise bacteria build up inside so the pipes have to be straight you know. If I did it again I'd get some non porous thick insulating tape and anything else to stop smells coming through and wrap this shit out of it. I had to wrap them all in situ..I even changed my toilet pipes still get a mild smell. Good luck buddy...
@@NarrowboatWill Oh dear! I changed the routing of the pipes on the advice of the guy at Leesan. They all go uphill now - so here's hoping! Sorry to hear your pipes smell already. Are they Leesan pipes? Thats a bit disconcerting to be honest!
Don't forget that, after undoing all the connections to the tank, vapours would have been released into the boat. If you vent the boat right through - all windows, doors, hatches etc. for a few hours it may smell better.
First question; did you flush the system (including tank)? ;-) How about a box fan to pull any fumes out the nearest door or window? While watching, I was thinking about using hard piping (no stuck debris), with the flexible pipe at the ends and corners but if not sealed correctly, you could have more places to leak.
Hey, well done Will! That was quick! I did feel a little guilty seeing the effort it was to change. I was waiting for those time honoured words “don’t light a match!” That was an interesting way to test the gas impermeability of the pipes. Pleased it has improved the odour issues and yes it is always a bit of a mission with the stiff pipes. You should try it in winter! Let’s hope you can breathe more easily now. BTW I was wondering if that holding tank is polyethylene? Probably not ideal if it is, but let’s not go there......... Cheers Will. Good luck with the vehicle P.
Narrowboat Will, my thought exactly! You’ll be fine I’m sure! Best of luck with the last piece. I’m due to do my hoses shortly on our boat too. They are well overdue for replacement at 7 yrs too.
I think you should have invested in a gas mask before tackling that job! As you found out. Always buy that extra metre to allow for errors in measuring. It is much cheaper than having to go back for more.
The problem with compost toilets are you have to store the bags until it's composted. I've spoken to a boater that's got one and he had 6 bags lined up on his front deck. I will look into more though. Thanks
So are you going to change the final rubber pipe soon? I’m interested to know if you have successfully eradicated 100% of the issue. A friend of mine managed to with new pipes.
Your channel is near impossible to find via search because of the generic word "narrowboat" and a verb "will", which if not capitalized foobars the search results against locating your channel. WHY not rename your channel "Will's Way" after your boat' name? BTW, IMHO your choice of club-like pop music is utterly incongruent with the essence of cruising - slow, calm, serene, low energy... and too personal and subjective to your tastes, and gives no thoughtful consideration to viewers, frankly. All of which is why I am UNSUBSCRIBING!!!!!!!
Just buying a new boat and I knew there was a very very good reason why we didn’t order a pump out. Well done you.

Well done Will - you deserve a medal for tackling that one! If mine goes like that I think I'll just ditch it and get a cassette!
Thanks buddy
Yes in need help as I watch all the way to the end. 😂😂😂👍
Nice work mate, your getting there👍👍

Interesting 😳everyday a school day👍

Ha ha oh I agree.
Another great job there Will, thank god they're not all as shitty as this one , lol 😂😂👌👍😎

Ahhh I'm not touching that tank. Ha

I thought I would have enough. Annoying. Thanks
Have you seen the vlog from foxes afloat? They're very happy with the compost toilet

Brilliant thanks
Thankyou.

I think that final toilet rubber will be the last push. Excuse the pun. Thanks for watching.
Easiest thing to do is get rid of the pump out and get a composting toilet....
We have problems with ours. It's a drop through pump out and I've searched all down the side and top of the boat and there is no vent.
There has to be a vent to let the pressure out when you put fluid in. You know.
@@NarrowboatWill yes I know that but there is no vent to be seen.
Now that was Crap viewing lol
Ha ha cheers
Don't shit on yer boat I would say

That's a fair comment. I like the music. I will take on board what you've said. Shame to loose you but that's your choice. Cheers
