Completely with you on Slot Copey - the fellah has been something else. Lots of Reds criticising FSG for going cheap (done so myself many times previously re players TBF) and may have been 3rd choice, but once you looked up his style of play he was absolutely what we needed: more control. He's looking more and more like a tactical genius with every game: the tweaks to our game against City were there for all to see and even surprised them no doubt. Masterclass. As for Pep - also agreed. I think the guy had huge respect for Jk AND huge respect/love for LFC and its fans (watch the vid on players/managers talk about Anfield) where he says the " This Is Anfield' is no marketing strategy". His head's gone - big time! But he did then applaud all corners of the ground - and he got loads of applause back from Reds. Thoroughly enjoyable lads - thanks from Nova Scota Canada. Phil.
Gareth, Copey, great show lads, I've not really seen any of your stuff for a while, back on the Anny Wrap. You're both very easy to listen to and very well informed. Brilliant stuff Gerrin! UTFR!
Despite everyone being pretty much a minimum of 7+ in rating I thought that VVD was MOTM. Lest we forget, we take him very much for granted and so his play is never lauded.
Just relieved Slot has not been bang average won one, lost one, drawn one on repeat, whilst asking for time to implement his project. He appears to be,and I hope to god I'm right, the right man,in the right place,at the right time, which can be a rare, yet powerful, combination
Great show which kept me company in my New Delhi hotel room while on a business trip. Thank you! Gareth - We met many years ago in Madrid at a Wrap event, great to see you are still a top lad and a good writer!
For all the wondering why we're so good, FSG seems to get little credit for the LFC re-org where they deliberately decided to limit Klopp's replacement with a football coach NOT a manager with his fingers in everything. Slot is just being a boss Dutch coach with great support coaches laser-focused on the football and the lads and nothing else. Now watch every other team with half a brain copy the new LFC model which is why Slot has overtaken everyone, Carlo and Pep included out of nowhere. Last June: Arne who? This Christmas: Santa Slot!
More disrespect for Klopp. Slot might well be another Joe Fagan riding Klopp's wave but with more luck. Next season and the following one will be much harder especially if we lose key players.
Excellent shout. We were talking about this pre-season and decided it was to limit his say in the signings and overall power. Could well turn out to be an ignorant view, tbh. Props for giving FSG some credit as well. No-one likes the men upstairs as a point of principle, but it's about time they get a little bit of recognition for knowing what they're doing, at least.
Doku's pace & trickery with very little end product reminds me of Tony Daley (who played mostly for Aston Villa) - he was once described on Match Of The Day (back in the day) as "an unguided missle" 🚀
I always remember Steve Froggatt bursting onto the scene as a winger for Aston Villa, he started out being referred to as "young Froggatt" which seemed to stick, even up until he retired ... blessed/cursed with a baby face
Went to the stadium tour recently with my son and it’s all there about Mo and what his plans are. He wants to equal or better Gerrard as the ultimate LFC player of all time I believe
1st and foremost, I want to say I really enjoy this podcast. I think Gareth got a point about Pep’s reaction. It started off as banter when it started, but he followed it through with his fans and post-match PC. Both teams respect each other, and not getting that gratitude and admiration from your closest rival definitely strikes a nerve. Well done lads
Great show. Listening whilst abroad and gutted to have missed the City game. Hopefully we say calm, humble and stay laser focused on the rest of the season.
Great podcast guys ... good to see you carry on the great content u brought to the Anfield wrap. Great win yesterday actually great week beating both Madrid and city compressively. Slot has us well organised defensively and we will always score goals with our attacking players. Just need luck with injuries and we are in for a great season 👍👍
Great show, lads, once again. When Gakpo scored the goal, the city teams mannerisms walking to the halfway line heads down showed Liverpool had broken them they were broken and like Paul said it could have been 7 city were lucky there.
I think Pep's initial reaction on the pitch was joining in the banter later on reflection his insecurities kicked in and he made a big deal of it he's also deflecting away from his teams performance ( on purpose? )
Could Liverpool be holding off on renewing contracts for Salah, Van Dijk, and Trent to align with the Adidas kit launch? It might be a marketing strategy to maximize hype and jersey sales. Imagine the buzz if all three players sign just as the new kits drop-definitely a potential win-win for fan engagement and merchandise revenue. No one is talking about it, but it makes you wonder!
Great point. I thought they were trying to tie down everyone else on smaller contracts first and do the biggest contracts at the end as they would influence what the other players would have asked for. They can save millions by going the contracts in the right order.
It seems we kind of went the whole circle as a fan base, in 2013/14 we allowed us to chant you know what, only to f it all up at the very end. So came the Klopp seasons when we were scared shitless not to jinx it so that we found it difficult to enjoy the road. It was so stressful. And now we got rid of the luggage Klopp spoke about in the very first presser. Footy and life with Slot is just pure fing joy innit. I’m so proud to be a supporter from Poland, since 1996 when we never won anything. I saw the first game only on Telly in 2001, UEFA cup final. What a road we’ve gone lads. Meanwhile the red mancs are still with Fergie and have no fucking clue what’s going on. These are the days. Have been for a while now. Enjoy.
I think it's because that right-side 8/10 has to cover for both Mo and Trent(or Conor but not as much) when playing there so they have a a lot more responsibilities in terms of pressing, defending, tracking back, and whatnot.
When it comes to Liverpool there's always a narrative i remember people thinking we would drop and here we are that completely got dismissed and then people had to find something else which was Liverpool haven't played anyone decent know we've played Madrid and City but now everyone will say "But Madrid and City are underperforming". Either way when it comes to Liverpool people will have excuses and i don't mind that toxic fans give us all something to laugh at i respect actual football fans more.
On that point 28:53 I think it’s cos of our lack of an out and out DM. Szobo is having to compensate for that with his running. Also the fact that Salah is getting the numbers through assists and goals. We don’t actually need those kind of numbers from the 10
18:30 Great point about the calm manager thing. Klopp underacheived at Old Trafford and Goodison Park because he allowed the fixture to get under his skin when the actual opposition were usually - always in the case of Everton - vastly inferior to Liverpool. Compare the hysterical performances at Old Trafford last season with the cool manner in which Slot's Liverpool cruised past them this season. And yes, Saturday might still be a car crash for Liverpool, especially as it's the last derby at 'The Old Lady' (what are the odds they'll refer to their new ground as that). But it won't be because Slot winds the players up into a frenzy.
So good to hear the Kop singing: 'You're getting sacked in the morning' to Pep ha ha ha ha ha He's never taken any stick before so it was a real surprise to him! I thought he took it well at the time with his 6 finger salute but that got thrown back in his face as well. It had obviously got to him by the time of the post match conference when he said he deserves more respect ha ha ha ha NO Pep! If you ain't wining you're a LOSER!!!
The original correct order of that phrase Copey is "you cannot eat your cake and have it too". The modern turn of phrase makes no sense from an order of operations perspective. If you have your cake, then of course you can eat it. However, if you've already eaten your cake then no, you then can't still have it too.
ha ha I just realized the UA-cam comment comes out on my daughter´s account! I am Ian from Madrid Reds and will subscribe and comment more going forwards. Cheers lads!
Neal on The Wrap predicted that if Diaz played up front then Dom would play as he's more of a workhorse. If Nunez played then he would do that job and Jones would play instead of Dom.
Forgot to add also the Arne slot is one of these coaches who is exceptional eith the way yhe set there teams up and style of play that was under the radar a bit. No one mentions the season during 19/20 season hes AZ Alkmaar side would have won the Dutch league but got cancelled because of COVID. Hes work at feyenord was exceptional. He should have 2 league titles won under hes belt and done it at clubs that had nowhere near the resources as PSV Eindhoven or Ajax.
Just be careful. I remember Kenny's team being 13 points behind Atkinson's MU and went on to win the league after the bookies had paid of on MU at Xmas. Also it was 2 points for a win
Agree about the Doku situation - no final ball, but do you not think the fact he subbed Trent was another sign of Slot's ruthlessness and also how he reacts very quickly in-game. Similar with Quansah on the opening day.
So,, here's my mad thought,,, is what Slot is currently doing with the SAME players Klopp had last season undermining Klopp's last season or two in charge? I am leaning towards yes, they are performing much better now than under Klopp. Feel free to tell me where to go btw.
Notvat all, grav was in his first season, Szobo too, klopp could have left 2 years ago but stayed to leave a very good base for the next manager. Also, its december.
I wouldn't look at the Opta computer numbers. They can change so fast, like what happened last year. What we are doing is good, taking each game as it comes and winning them. Just continue winning and our detractors will be left with nothing to say at the end.
Speaking of which, Sunday reminded me of that game under Evo where we absolutely twatted United. It was 2-0, but could easily have been 5. Sunday was like that...
The fear of collapsing is ruining the enjoyment of being top in two leagues! Even the one under the sea! I hope we're singing...arne arne slot he's put us back on top he won the fkn lot! 🎶 🎵
I hope if we do win the league Slot tells us to sing Klopp's song and return the favour. I've no doubt we'd be doing just as well with Klopp just as we did in 19/20 when MC were off the pace. As for Pep the fella is paranoid and losing the plot, being triggered by banter when he was celebrating in Tsimikas's face a couple of seasons ago shows what a hypocrite he is😆

I can guess why and it made me laugh too
Slott has not been given manager of the month yet….crazy!
18 wins out of 20. I bet any other " Top 4 club" manager would have had about 2 by now
"the curse " no thanks , rather he just get manager of the year after we win the title
