One of those songs that was overplayed on the radio when it came out, but I’ve never tired of it. Still a great song.
I never heard of it, but the bassline is pretty groovy, I have to admit.
There is no such thing as overplayed when it comes to this song. 28 years on it’s no less enjoyable than the last time I hear it.
0:50 this is so accurate. Even if I'm feeling mellow and don't want something loud and energetic I can always listen to this. I'm never not in the mood for it and have never skipped past it on a CD or playlist.
The arrangement is infectious. I struggled in the 2010’s to remember who played it. I had to here it again.
I learned this bassline earlier this year. Always liked the song and the tasty bassline therein!
Once you get the groove down this is one of the most enjoyable basslines there is to play. It's the first thing I reflexively play when I pick up a bass.
Love it. Thanks Patrick!!
So well done. Great tune and great playing!
Excellent Patrick thanks !
🤘🏽 love that tune!
YES!!!
I just sat Gaurdians of the Galaxy V3 and they used this song which fit the scene perfectly.
It was a great time for music, grunge was waning because Cobain was gone and another interesting form of music came through at that point.
I miss those days... Who'd have predicted this mess we have today?! 😐
One of the first songs I learned on bass back when it first came out.
Never forgot how to play it.
You must have been a quick learner, pal, because this is definitely not a beginner's bassline 😁 Were you playing Portrait of Tracy at 6 months ?! 😂
@@neilbatey3795 ha! I played instruments from an early age, as my Mam was a music teacher. Bass was probably about instrument number seven or eight. So I was fairly musically literate at that point. I started bass at about age seventeen, so had been learning music for over twelve years at that point.
🤟🤟Yeah🎸🤟🤟👍
Great job, Patrick. I have absolutely zero memory of this song and band, even though I'm from the UK and am still a huge fan of 90s alt-rock. The only thing I remember about Spacehog is that I believe one of them was boinking Liv Tyler? What a bassline though, definitely a great pick workout
One of those that went under the radar in the UK but was a smash in the States. I was working as a presenter in tinpot local radio at the time and loved it - played it loads. Still got the original promo from the record company
Yeah, but who wasn't boinking Liv Tyler back in the 90's? Certainly me... 😒
@@simonhart2186 What exactly do you mean by "still got the original promo?"
@@twantheunisz9281 I used to talk to record label radio pluggers who would try and get you to play their music. As part of this they would send you pre-release ‘promotional’ copies so you can play stuff before it’s released (this was early 90s so all physical media - CD/vinyl). I still have my cd copy of this with original record label release notes
This song accompanied me throughout a more than 3000 mile walk for our homeless veterans.
👏👏👏👏😆
Great cover. Isn’t the before last note of the main riff (directly before the E) F instead of F#???
I'm having a really difficult time trying to get the 2-3-2-3-2-0 hammer-ons to sound right. Can't seem to make it sound fluid at all.
Yeah it's a great groove, I'm not a bass player ,well not really 🤔 but Drummers always have an opinion.
You were fine although the tone was off, I think I'm wrong but when I first heard this and bought the CD single in 95 I could of sworn it sounded fretless, but then again you can use all kinds of effects these days.
But I was always into that sound Mike Karen, Jaco, done of Jay Kay's bass players.
But I just love that kinda smoothing popping bass style & from trying to educate myself seems a lot of fretted bass players like Flea and this guy got that fretless sound.
Anyway great song reminds me my teens ,yeah I know time fly's , But we always have music which is timeless & can take u back to a time and pass.
Living Colour and Fishbone had this groove as well. 🤙✌️🙏
Yeah, but now sing to it at same time. How do you do that???? Always marvel at bassist singers.
What about the bridge?
I like it sounds like Felix papalardi
Really great this is popular again, thanks to GotG3.
You didn't do the hardest part.
