Try searching the income of the jobs that you are interested in, in other cities or even other countries (if you are willing to move of course). You're going to be impressed by how wages vary around the world. I recently found out an engineer earns more than 5,500$ in some countries, while in mine it's usually less than 2,000$
I would say date the subjects you love, and from putting yourself in those environments you would know if you have the determination and willingness to sacrifice to pursue that path and also each passion has its time or season in your life. Senior in high school and very very stressed because application deadlines are really soon and i have zero clue as to what i want to do with the rest of my life and i think its crazy that we are asked to basically map out our lives at such a young age with very little experiences and knowledge to base our “likes” and “dislikes” on.

Of course, it's really really tough, but if you follow the STEM path and become a qualified professional with good work ethics, then who knows what may happen? Next thing you know you're heading off to Mars! And you know what? We are still very young, there's no reason we should stop our education after the first graduation. We just need to figure out where to start, something that feels meaningful for the time being. I think taking the first step may be the hardest, but I'm sure we can figure it out!

So here's my story: i thought i had found my passion. I thought this thing was my passion & what is also important: i at least knew i was good at it. So, i prepared a lot during my gap year after school to get accepted to this uni. And now i did it - i got accepted. Here's the BUT: i never felt that feeling of real happiness for being accepted. Til now. And i am slowly understanding why, i kinda needed to proove myself that i am actually that good in this thing so that i wanted to see if i get accepted. But know that i have proven myself i slowly realize and have to admit to myself that this isnt actually what i want to do. So since like 2 weeks (since then i was honest with myself for the first time since they accepted me) i am in a really bad state mentally because something inside me just says like no that is not your thing you know what you'd like to do so much more - and here is another but: they say you should go for your passion and also your skills, but my skills aren't my passion i realized, so the other passion i think i have is very uncertain because i dont onow if i am good at it at all, i could suck so much. I am struggling so much rn, thanks for everyone who read this, rn i dont know what to do because i should start uni in like 2 weeks but i feels s o w r o n g .:(
I'm living a very similar situation, I decide to take a gap year in Germany...it was the best experience of my life, after all expectations, better then a book story. I met amazing people, I found a job and lived in my own apartment while studying for a German language certificate. Everything was perfect. Then I decide to come back to Italy to study at a university where I found a bachelor that I couldn't found abroad and I was really exited, I wanted to. I'm actually living this new life there and realized I'm not happy of my choice. I came back to Italy just for this bachelor and I don't like it! Aaand the problem is, I don't even know what could I do because I have much interests and no idea of what to do. I feel all the pressure and sadness of living a life that I don't feel mine even if I was successful in everything I did and decided I wanted to do! After my gap year I realized much things and the choice I made doesn't reflect my desires anymore so... I don't know what I will do but I felt understood reading your comment ahahah I'm actually trying my best waiting for something that I don't know

People sometimes mix up what you are good at doing and what you actually are suited for. Like forexampme me, I got some badass leadership skills, I have been in politics before and enjoyed my time there but at the end of the day there is this humane side of me telling me politics are just bunch of lies to rule sheeps around you and even if I like the rush I dont wanna be a part of that ugly picture. But I still love leading. So why not something like, teacher? Why not become something that I actually wpuld enjoy doing? Im done with choosing careers just for money purposes. I think I'm just going to vent, because why not? I'm 19 now, and I honestly have no clue what to do in life. Things looked like they were going well in school. Being seen as smart, being on top of my grades, being willing to try new things... Everything looked good until grades 10-12. I realised at the end of it that I probably picked the wrong subjects (the ITs, Physics, Mathematics, Accounting... they just were not for me, and I disliked the teaching styles of all of them). Things started actually looking up in grade 12 (2020), though. I had a refreshed and better mentality, and changed business for accounting, and I was almost like a new man. Sadly, COVID came in and halted school after possibly the best 3 months of my life, and the progress slowly faded into regress by the time school came back after June, till December. Business went well, but everything else (especially physics, which I actually started to do well in for once) and my work ethic and motivation just... faded. Now, it's 2021. I am not allowed into university, because I only got a Diploma's pass at the end of High School last year (which is almost like an actual fail) instead of a Bachelor's pass. I took a gap year this year, mostly to rewrite my final exams from high school, but still couldn't get a Bachelor's pass. So instead, I can only really do college, or even online courses, but not an actual uni. The thing is, I haven't found a programme that interests me. I also have developed a fear of making decisions these days. My mom and dad have desperately tried to help me and inspire me to try something, especially in the field of IT (to make money during these times, without relying on others). It's not something I find appealing anymore though, because high school was a nightmare with IT. The things that they are interested in, don't interest me. I want to avoid the corporate world, because it's drained them both horribly. I also feel as if I have much more to offer to the world, rather than working at corporate. It's just that I don't know how, or where. And with so many programmes being offered in university, I don't even have that option to look at because I can't go there. South Africa has a poor employment rate and a limited education system too, so hopes of studying overseas with poor results... yeah :/ There's only a few months till the gap year ends, and I don't want to spend another year on the sidelines because it's been inactive. I feel lost, and a little bit defeated, to be honest. I have dragged myself into this mess, and my inability to make a decision/take opportunities/take action is costing me a chance of getting out. I still have hope that something good might happen, or that a random opportunity might suddenly pop up. After all, so many things in my life have happened for a reason, but it's never wise to just rely on hope. Ever. Sorry. I just needed a place to let it out. Has anyone else felt a similar way? I understand that studying may be hard but education is key you have this opportunity to study and don't just leave it like that , yes you can still get a job without attending school but with that degree your gonna get paid more , I'm 17 too and I graduated and I still feel kind of confused , don't worry we all do .
I think not everything you study will necessarily be used in your real life or you will need to know to get a job or to be successful, but it’s the way of study, the way they teach you that will be useful. University and college and all of that it trains your brain, that’s what it’s doing. It gets you to use your brain in ways you’ve probably never used before. It teaches you critical thinking skills and how to analyze things in different ways, and this is what will be useful in the job setting. This is what will be helpful. It teaches you time management and how to work smarter not harder. trains your brain and develops different ways of thinking outside the box.
I have a strong ambition to get the best grades at school, no competing with anybody, but just to show to myself that anything is possible with dedication and discipline, but when it comes to what I want to study for, I have to clue 😕 and this is really stressing me out.

hey there. I want you to take a breath and know that you're too young to have it all figured out at this age. Everyone has their own pace. Failing a test doesn't mean you're not cut out for it, that's up to you to decide. Do you like animating and does it excite you? Keep putting in the effort every day but don't overwork yourself. 1% a day takes you a long way; discipline will get you through, not motivation. You don't like it anymore (for it not because you failed)? That's totally normal. Ourselves and our interests are constantly changing so learn to detach from things once they no longer feel fulfilling to you. Now career-wise, I recommend you look into different subjects in high school, and talk with people from different career paths to get their perspectives or know how they got to where they are. You can perhaps look for animators online and ask for advice for example. Again, your goals might change from now to senior year and that's normal. If studying abroad is an option, broaden your research. Animation, graphic design, and architecture are some majors you might like as an artistic person. I hope this helps a bit.

I'm living a very similar situation, I decide to take a gap year in Germany...it was the best experience of my life, after all expectations, better then a book story. I met amazing people, I found a job and lived in my own apartment while studying for a German language certificate. Everything was perfect. Then I decide to come back to Italy to study at a university where I found a bachelor that I couldn't found abroad and I was really exited, I wanted to. I'm actually living this new life there and realized I'm not happy of my choice. I came back to Italy just for this bachelor and I don't like it! Aaand the problem is, I don't even know what could I do because I have much interests and no idea of what to do. I feel all the pressure and sadness of living a life that I don't feel mine even if I was successful in everything I did and decided I wanted to do! After my gap year I realized much things and the choice I made doesn't reflect my desires anymore so... I don't know what I will do but I felt understood reading your comment ahahah I'm actually trying my best waiting for something that I don't know

People sometimes mix up what you are good at doing and what you actually are suited for. Like forexampme me, I got some badass leadership skills, I have been in politics before and enjoyed my time there but at the end of the day there is this humane side of me telling me politics are just bunch of lies to rule sheeps around you and even if I like the rush I dont wanna be a part of that ugly picture. But I still love leading. So why not something like, teacher? Why not become something that I actually wpuld enjoy doing? Im done with choosing careers just for money purposes. I wanna do something that I can actually be good at and also enjoy doing at the same time.

I'm passionate about making music, but I passionately hate the idea of making music for a living.
What is this boloney of following your "passion" anyway? What if your passion isn't something that's marketable? Or what if you enjoy your passion most when your livelihood doesn't depend on it? Is there really just one passion? What about multiple passions? How about those who aren't doing something they're passionate about for work but live a decent life?
Feel exactly the same way about music,so for now I put it on the side while I try to search other things cause I’m also somewhat interested in other fields (but with no experience/trial) such as coding,designing.
Ultimately I know that my goal would be to not worry about money and have the free time and motivation to still do what I like as hobbies (music for instance).

I think I'm just going to vent, because why not? I'm 19 now, and I honestly have no clue what to do in life. Things looked like they were going well in school. Being seen as smart, being on top of my grades, being willing to try new things... Everything looked good until grades 10-12. I realised at the end of it that I probably picked the wrong subjects (the ITs, Physics, Mathematics, Accounting... they just were not for me, and I disliked the teaching styles of all of them). Things started actually looking up in grade 12 (2020), though. I had a refreshed and better mentality, and changed business for accounting, and I was almost like a new man. Sadly, COVID came in and halted school after possibly the best 3 months of my life, and the progress slowly faded into regress by the time school came back after June, till December. Business went well, but everything else (especially physics, which I actually started to do well in for once) and my work ethic and motivation just... faded.
Now, it's 2021. I am not allowed into university, because I only got a Diploma's pass at the end of High School last year (which is almost like an actual fail) instead of a Bachelor's pass. I took a gap year this year, mostly to rewrite my final exams from high school, but still couldn't get a Bachelor's pass.
So instead, I can only really do college, or even online courses, but not an actual uni. The thing is, I haven't found a programme that interests me. I also have developed a fear of making decisions these days. My mom and dad have desperately tried to help me and inspire me to try something, especially in the field of IT (to make money during these times, without relying on others). It's not something I find appealing anymore though, because high school was a nightmare with IT. The things that they are interested in, don't interest me. I want to avoid the corporate world, because it's drained them both horribly. I also feel as if I have much more to offer to the world, rather than working at corporate. It's just that I don't know how, or where. And with so many programmes being offered in university, I don't even have that option to look at because I can't go there. South Africa has a poor employment rate and a limited education system too, so hopes of studying overseas with poor results... yeah :/
There's only a few months till the gap year ends, and I don't want to spend another year on the sidelines because it's been inactive. I feel lost, and a little bit defeated, to be honest. I have dragged myself into this mess, and my inability to make a decision/take opportunities/take action is costing me a chance of getting out. I still have hope that something good might happen, or that a random opportunity might suddenly pop up. After all, so many things in my life have happened for a reason, but it's never wise to just rely on hope. Ever.

I graduated from HS on May 2019. I went to college right away (summer semester) I went for Film production. Later on May 2020 I told my mom that I don’t know why I’m going to college. Now 2021 I don’t know what to do, I like working with animals but I don’t know if that is what I want to do. I think not everything you study will necessarily be used in your real life or you will need to know to get a job or to be successful, but it’s the way of study, the way they teach you that will be useful. University and college and all of that it trains your brain, that’s what it’s doing. It gets you to use your brain in ways you’ve probably never used before. It teaches you critical thinking skills and how to analyze things in different ways, and this is what will be useful in the job setting. This is what will be helpful. It teaches you time management and how to work smarter not harder. trains your brain and develops different ways of thinking outside the box.

I have a strong ambition to get the best grades at school, no competing with anybody, but just to show to myself that anything is possible with dedication and discipline, but when it comes to what I want to study for, I have to clue 😕 and this is really stressing me out.
Just finished university this year on very general subject "Management" and well... have no clue at all on what path to follow seriously... have bad degree and zero internships... yea... I don't even know what I would be good at... I do think teaching would probably be what I would like but don't you need to be good at something to teach any given subject...?
Also only things I really like is just learning on how to optimize my life more like better work out routines, ways to focus more, stress management, nutrition and all that stuff that helps me to become better...

hey there. I want you to take a breath and know that you're too young to have it all figured out at this age. Everyone has their own pace. Failing a test doesn't mean you're not cut out for it, that's up to you to decide. Do you like animating and does it excite you? Keep putting in the effort every day but don't overwork yourself. 1% a day takes you a long way; discipline will get you through, not motivation. You don't like it anymore (for it not because you failed)? That's totally normal. Ourselves and our interests are constantly changing so learn to detach from things once they no longer feel fulfilling to you. Now career-wise, I recommend you look into different subjects in high school, and talk with people from different career paths to get their perspectives or know how they got to where they are. You can perhaps look for animators online and ask for advice for example. Again, your goals might change from now to senior year and that's normal. If studying abroad is an option, broaden your research. Animation, graphic design, and architecture are some majors you might like as an artistic person. I hope this helps a bit.
