I think this is Alanis' best song, certainly very powerful when she does it live... it almost has a Led Zeppelin 'Kashmir' feel to it when the intensity cranks up.
I don't think being a metalhead means you can't also listen to other genres outside of metal. I wouldn't worry about metal points being taken away by saying we also enjoy other stuff. 😂 ya know
Such an amazing artist, she will be remembered 50 years from now as such a masterpiece of musicianship from our era, this will stand out. She has so much in her library to offer.
Brad's smile says it all. Brad just listen to the entire album Little Jagged Pill. Believe it or not, watching her do it live is even more fulfilling. Her videos are so fun. Hand in My Pocket should be next.
I've watched Brad react to hundreds of amazing classic songs, and with each one he stares at the screen, head cocked like a dog trying to understand it's humans words. Hundreds of classic songs, hundreds of confused looks from Brad. And then Alanis comes along and all of a Brad looks like my dog when I would scratch his belly and tell him he's a good boy. This is the look of pure love.
As someone else said, this was created for the City of Angels soundtrack, a movie about a forbidden love between an angel and a mortal. Alanis was given a rough edit of the movie to watch before writing the song and at the time she wrote it she was also going through something in her personal life that she could write about and have it also fit the movie's characters as well. I think this is why the song hits so hard, she's writing from her own experience.
It's so much better without the multitracking that's on this studio version, I know she does production but if that was her choice I'd be very surprised. The Grammy's live is how it should be 🙂
Please watch her do this live. Even if you don’t put it up on the channel, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t watch it. She sang with a full orchestra and it was at an awards show, idk the Grammys or Oscars. If you think this made you feel something, Alanis hits a level of perfection and emotion in that performance that’s unsurpassed.
Alanis is such a brilliant singer. Her ballads can rock you to your core. Thank U is another great one. Her live performance of this song is flawless. This was from the movie City of Angel’s the part of the movie is heartbreaking and comforting at the same time
I love when Brad is basically falling in love and you get to watch Lex’s face as she tries to process it all. She’s listening a little harder as if to try and hear what Brad is hearing.
This song was released as part of the movie soundtrack for 'City of Angels'... (Goo Goo Dolls had a huge hit 'Iris' from the same soundtrack album) The lyrics go well w/ the plot of the movie - Nicholas Cage plays an immortal angel who falls in love w/ a female surgeon, played by Meg Ryan. The conflict is that Cage's angel is responsible for collecting deceased souls for the afterlife, while Ryan's surgeon is dedicated to saving lives...
@@Valorius 100% WAS! IDK why already stunning people do that to themselves, all in the name of 'Growing Old Gracefully', when all it does it turn them into a caricatured waxwork figure of the beauty they once had. They look aweful....really...
The track by Paula Cole on that soundtrack…. “Feeling Love” is one of the sexiest songs ever. My ex made me a mix tape (literally on cassette) many years ago that featured it with a number of other tracks and though things eventually fell apart, I fell seriously hard for her.
Alanis is a grandmaster. It's very rare to find music and poetry so well crafted and even more rare still to have someone as skilled as Alanis to be able to sing it. You are listening to the product of a countless number of events that eventually happened to come together to create this person who created all of this. You could live 10,000 lifetimes and not achieve such a result.
She wrote this specifically for the movie- it’s perfect. The entire soundtrack is so good- y’all should watch the movie! It’s called City of Angels with Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage
You need to watch the live performance of this it is single-handedly one of the greatest female vocal performances ever. This song is absolutely brilliant
"Jagged Little Pill" was on of the best albums released in the 90s. When Alanis dropped "You Outta Know," that became my rock-out anthem, even though I hadn't experienced a bad break-up! Then energy was infectious. Brad likes her voice and so do I. There's nobody else who sounds like Alanis that I can think of. She has a quirky way of pronouncing her words when she sings that I just love. If you haven't reacted to "Hand in Pocket," you should try that one next. Or "Ironic." That's a great one. Cheers!
3:55 I KNOW!! ITS AMAZING BRAD!! Love how he cracked a smile as she nailed that note. The way she can hold a note and then fade it away... Her voice - Its just so pretty and takes me back to the 90's when I was kid. I cant describe it. Whenever I listen to her it gives me the chillest 90's carefree vibes. I miss growing up as a kid in the 90's. Chills!!! Just something about the way she throws her voice and her facial movement singing is so beautiful. She has that 90's swag that can never fade. TIMELESS BEAUTY. Ok enough of me having a crush on her as a 34y/o dude XD.
