The tools in these programs have many great work-arounds for people who are not only color blind, but helpful for those who aren't and this video is a great example of that in using one of the great many tools. Great video!

I had no idea you are color blind. I am too and whenever I see creators like you making videos for that community it is really inspiring. This helped me out so much because before this whenever I was color matching something I always had to ask someone else to look at it and then make edits. It's super awesome to see content like this. Also at the end when you cleared up those myths was great, I remember in elementary school all the kids would grab markers or crayons and they'll test me on what color they are. It's hilarious when people think that I just don't see color. You're the best Clint keep making amazing content!
Dude YES!! Imm so glad you got something out of this video. Makes me super happy man. And yeah, this tip helps me a bunch, but I still ask friends or loved ones if it looks correct. I wanted to include that bit as well but didn’t have the time.
I am colorblind compositor as well. Glad to hear I am not the only one! When I started out I was told that I wouldn't be able to make it in the industry because my colors would always be off, but I have yet to run into major problems after a year of working. In Foundry's Nuke the process is fairly similar to AE, but it is a lot easier to check color values since you can control + click any pixel and it will tell you RGB numbers. After going through this process for a while you become more accustomed with how a color image is actually made and which RGB values attribute to which color which is actually kind of cool.
Ohh, man! I've been following Corridor Channel for so long and just came upon this video on my recommendations... I am not color blind but I did not know this color matching trick. This will be super helpful dude. Thanks a ton! Keep creating. You are a true inspiration for my freelance projects.
Great technique. This method is also good for color correcting even if you're not color blind since often environmental or other screen elements can skew color perception. Going channel by channel and using color info will never let you down.
wow, thanks for the tips! I have the same background where I wanted to be a pilot but found out when taking the tests for airforce that I had red green deficiency, and ended up as a VFX student :) One small positive factor is the doctor told me colorblind people's eyes are more sensitive to light than others, so this technique is very efficient.
Found out I was color blind (red green as well) while learning vfx back in high school and have been finding tricks and cheats to get by for years and years since. Love that you made a solid tutorial for everyone else that might be starting to learn now but would have been frustrated or discouraged otherwise!
As someone who is getting into VFX and is also color blind this was super helpful. I am also red and green color blind so all the circles at the start of the video that are supposed to have numbers in them just looked like a bunch of dots.
Great f-ing video! I've always felt like an imposter for being a colorblind 3d artist but this makes me feel like there really is more of us out there and unique ways to work around it!
Great tutorial, even if you're not colour blind, it's a cool technique! If I could suggest a tutorial, I would personally LOVE a texturing tutorial from you. I watched the door handle VOD and the texturing part just left me itching to try it myself, and I've been looking for similar content ever since. I would love to learn more about detailed texturing with all those little tricks, like creating dust and noise maps procedurally and just cool node trickery to add detail. I use Blender, but from how it seems, I think Octane's nodes are almost identical to Cycles in Blender. Top notch stuff, mate, keep it up! Loving this content.
I originally learned this technique from a Corridor BTS video back in like 2013. It has saved my butt so many times, and I'm not even colorblind. It's so useful to isolate color channels
Thanks for doing this Clint. I’m also protans colour blind (couldn’t see a single number in those test) and work in motion graphics. It’s really reassuring to see a fellow colourblind person kicking ass in vfx and not being held back. Thanks for the great video 👌🏼
Another great tool for colorblind peeps like us is to use the skin tone line in a vectorscope (in AFX open Workspace/Color.) The option for turning on the line is in the settings if it's not already on. Lots of great tutorials on how to color correct using scopes, and you'll see that to improve your footage dramatically only takes a few simple steps with the scopes.
Would love to say this looks great, but I'm colour blind too so what do I know?! Seriously though, this is an interesting new technique that I've never heard of before! Thanks Clint!
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing! I am also color blind and I was almost giving up to color correct footage. It was very frustrating after working many years in the field.
