THIS game is my entire childhood, at least early days of school skipping. The day I found it was possible to play in PC, was one of my most memorable and happiest day.
For me I don't have any hold-ups about pirating games that aren't really available any other way like this one but my own morality kicks in when that's not the case. I still remember one time I pirated Sonic Generations 3ds remember I was having a really good time playing it and I stopped because I started feeling bad that I wasn't giving the devs anything for it, that they worked all hard on making a very fun game and in the end didn't get anything for it. It just didn't feel right. For giving you such a good time one ought to give something in return back. I suppose it's less impactable for Mega corporations / when the price is insane, but doubly true for smaller and independent creators. ( though since the days of the demo are kind of dead now pirating it to check it out before buying, or seeing if you can run on your computer sound fine.) Nowadays as an adult while I still feel that way, a bigger issue has been time. Why pirate all those games that'll never get around to playing? I have so much already, I'm just going to be getting a bunch of things that are going to take up space on my hard drive that I'm never going to use. The realization you could pirate everything but will never have the time to play any of it is actually a depressing thought.
@Joe Blow Yeah. I don't know how much money Capcom has made on the beat-em-up bundle(hopefully it did well), but they wouldn't have bothered with it if people didn't already know the games from emulation. Even some people who didn't play them before may have known the reputations of games like Battle Circuit or Armored Warriors. I know I was happy to pay for the beat-em-up bundle because I knew how good Armored Warriors and Battle Circuit were, among others. I hope they eventually make Alien vs. Predator available on digital PC platforms and consoles, as they did manage to re-license it for that arcade panel they released, but I'm not buying that thing because AvP is in it.
Joe Blow for these old games I think of it like a book that is out of print, did the author really want their hard work to be buried? Of course not! Piracy is preservation.
@@sandyamaulana2317 Battle Circuit is included with the existing Capcom beat em up bundle. It's one of the best purchases I've made for my switch, Armored Warriors in particular is fucking crazy and one of the most inventive and fun beat em ups I've ever played. But yeah another beat em up bundle that has all these license games on would be amazing, if it was ever possible. It'd probably be really tricky to get the licenses again, I mean look at the Duck Tales remake, you literally can't buy it anymore as their new license for the game ran out so they had to take it off all online storefronts, a real shame. You can only play it by pirating it now. But yeah in a perfect world, we'd get the punisher and AvP and the rest. Alien v Predator is probably the best beat em up ever made, it's a huge amount of fun, it never gets boring and repetitive like some beat em ups do (looking at you final fight)
As someone else said this was insanely popular in Brazil. Easily found in any arcade place or bar in the 90s. Even today if you talk to anyone who likes arcades there's a high chance it's one of their favorites. Mustapha was the most popular character here, mainly because of his appearance, his clothes look like the uniform from the biggest gas station brand in Brazil.
I remember being at an arcade back in '95 and seeing this game's Continue screen and subsequently the game over screen. For whatever reason it stuck with me most of my life but I could never figure out what the game was until I randomly came across this video! Thanks for finally answering that question!
Did the term "gene splicing" even exist in 92 or 93? If so, I don't think it was well known enough to be a pop culture reference in a video game. It strikes me as a term which only became widely known after Dolly the Sheep which was like 1996.
A true classic at the time of release, Hannah was always my favorite but people at the arcade I used to go would pick Mustapha most of the times. The enemy boss design reminded me a bit of Captain Commando
I remember this being absolutely HUGE here back in the day during the arcade days, but personally I only played it myself in "whatever I could". It's really awesome and definitely worth playing!

The franchise got a toy line (I THINK by Playmates) and I remember almost every month Wizard Magazine would have somebody send in a custom action figure. Hannah Dundee was ALWAYS the base for a female they hadn't made yet (Jean Grey, Rogue, Wonder Woman, etc).
Dude, your reviews are great! I love this game, my local Arcade had a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs machine back in the day. I see some similarities, or maybe the same 'feeling' or atmosphere with Taito's Growl (Runark). Anyway, it's really a cool game, specially if you play it with some friends. Have a nice day buddy.
My favorite beat em up, there's nothing like it except The Punisher which, I'll admit, is superior in many aspects. C&D has better bosses and more characters though so it's up to preference I guess.
Yeah. I don't really differentiate between the highest quality beat-em-up games. Punisher, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Battle Circuit and some others can all be in the running for the best, and not everyone will agree on all of it. C&D has something special and might make it my personal favorite as well. One, I didn't have expectations for it. I love the premise of fighting the dinosaur poachers. And one thing C&D has over Punisher by a lot is the game's music. C&D may have the best music in a beat-em-up game. But C&D and Punisher are both among my favorites and I go back to them pretty often.
I grew up playing this game in emu (I was born eight years after this game came out) and god damn, I don't know how to describe it but the aesthetic of this game is really what got me obsessed with it. I don't even know what to call it or if there's a label for it or a category of any kind. I love it. (plus the gameplay is really really good)

An awesome beat-'em-up! This was even released as an app. My personal favorite character was Mess; the slow and strong type, but a little quicker than Haggar from Final Fight.

I had a Jack Cadillac toy as a kid but had no idea what the series was. Still one of my favorites, brought him everywhere. Accidentally left him in the first Blade movie. RIP :(
I remember the cartoon series, but I don't think I watched more than one episode. I'd assume it was one of the 90's pushing the envelope of what could be considered kid friendly, but things were probably wildly toned down for Saturday Mornings from the original comics. What makes this game amazing is that it came out around the time of the 6-12 demo cartoon, but it was brutally violent, had a higher difficulty than most, and in every single way was very much NOT a kid friendly game. Imagine you're an 8 year old kid who watches the cartoon show and you see this in your local family friendly arcade, you pump quarters into this thing, and you see blood spurt out of the bad guys when you punch them. How delighted you'd be, but how horrified your parents would get. Which is the most amazing thing about the game. You'd think a very much not age appropriate game that could have been mistaken for that kid's cartoon's tie in would have caused a major moral panic. But the game and to some extent cartoon both flew under the radar and totally got away unscathed while Night Trap and Mortal Kombat were dragged in front of Congress. Ha!
Never heard of this ip, but the dinosaurs attacking everyone, the minor enemy character progression via name evolutions, and the guns doubling as clubs. Looks pretty great.
Great Game! I spent 3 months back in 2017 working on single credit clears of this game, it was totally worth it. Also yeah, as you said the AI is cheap but there are some cool infinite loops especially with Mess. Capcom needs to release this again but for now you can play Final Fight LNS which is a home-brew beat-em up on the OpenBOR engine. It has the Cadillacs characters in and they even have new moves. "FInal Uppercut!"
Oh man, I loved this game! I used to play it on Mame. The music in the elevator was awesome. I didn't even know about the comic/cartoon until later.

Great way to begin 2020, if you ask me. :) There was a time where every seedy bar/pub in Brazil that happened to have an old arcade machine lying around, had this exact game in it.
Ah the 90´s... when you could pick two random cool words, splice them together and make something out of it that would surely be turned into saturday morning material (this cartoon in particular was fine enough) ^^
I played it on vacation in Italy in like 1997-99. I was totally obsessed and played it every evening and used all my money for especially this arcade game. Damn is it good...
Loved the comics (Xenozoic Tales, first came out in Death Rattle) and game growing up! I was obsessed with dinosaurs and my grandmother even made me a full dinosaur costume to wear (head/fully functional tail), which I wore everywhere haha. I was such a sassy dinosaur :P
It's funny, I ended up preferring Jack and Mustapha over Hannah and Mess. Mess is my least favorite character to play. But I'd say the differences in the characters don't matter quite as much in C&D as in many other games of the type. Some say this is the best beat-em-up. Others say it's very good but not as good as others. I say it's pretty much tied with a bunch of others for being the best, and I've done some extensive testing. Games like this, Punisher, AvsP, Battle Circuit, Amored Warriors and some others(including non-Capcom games) are all high-level games in the genre, so I don't try to determine which one is better past a certain point. They all have something going for them. C&D has a charm to it that brings me back to it and might be the beat-em-up I play most. I love the premise of battling dino poachers. The game looks and plays great. The music is fantastic. The last one is more important than I think a lot of people realize. Good game music can be the difference between a snoozer and a really exciting game. In Capcom's own library, Knights of the Round and Warriors of Fate are less interesting to me because the music holds them back. There are a bunch of truly superior beat-em-ups and C&D is among them in my opinion and doesn't lack compared to some of the other top games. This game may have the trickiest licensing scenario. They would have to license Xenozoic Tales along with GM/Cadillac. But it's also the easiest game they have to modify, if they wanted to, to remove the licensing hassle(like Sega has done with Out Run). They'd have to modify sprites and change names, but it could be made into a generic dinosaur beat-em-up game without a huge amount of work. Not that I'm expecting that, but it's something I have thought about. I'd be fine with changes if they look good as I'm not attached to the C&D property other than the game itself.
Kick ass game. And very smooth as well for an arcade, without cheap deaths to gobble coins. I remember playing this back in 1994 with the money I've saved from school lunch. Good days. xD BTW, you should review Alien vs Predator arcade at some point. It's simply the highest point Capcom ever reached with this kind of game.
Big shame this game aswell as The Punisher and Alien's vs Preadator weren't included on the Capcom beat em up bundle on ps4. I know its to do with licencing issues but Capcom should of bought the licences and went all out.. Oh well there's still Mame at least.
I remember really enjoying the cartoon back in the day, one of those ones that only got a single season though unfortunately. Would have loved to have seen more of it as well as Battletech.
Looks like a good 90s style beat em up. If it got a home console port i would try it out. Also, with the graphics i don't refer to that as "pixel art". Those are sprites.
My wife and I have played this a million times. I love the music like most Capcom music from this time period. Still waiting for the day this gets rereleased on something. Also, the Dino’s won’t mess with you if you don’t mess with them and keep that fat dude from hitting them.
This is one of those weird games that all my gamer friends know about somehow, but we never played in arcades. We did however play it "anyway we could" 😉
I just saw some footage of a game I'd never heard of. "Night Slashers", a side scrolling beat 'em up that had a horror theme with of zombies, werewolves, and gore. Know anything about this one? The footage I saw had been modded to have The Evil Dead's Ash as a playable character.

Happy New Year bro 🍺🍾🎊🤓
One of my favorite arcade games. Such a cool game!
Kick ass game. And very smooth as well for an arcade, without cheap deaths to gobble coins. I remember playing this back in 1994 with the money I've saved from school lunch. Good days. xD
BTW, you should review Alien vs Predator arcade at some point. It's simply the highest point Capcom ever reached with this kind of game.
Until now, I only knew of the Sega CD version. Thanks for reviewing!
Big shame this game aswell as The Punisher and Alien's vs Preadator weren't included on the Capcom beat em up bundle on ps4. I know its to do with licencing issues but Capcom should of bought the licences and went all out.. Oh well there's still Mame at least.
The arcade stuff is cool! Keep that MAME running SNES Drunk!
The weirdest thing about this weird game is that you are effectively playing as Bettie Page.
Back in the days this was my best beat-them-all game arcade , mustapha was my player 1
I remember really enjoying the cartoon back in the day, one of those ones that only got a single season though unfortunately. Would have loved to have seen more of it as well as Battletech.
@Joe Blow
It was awesome, do go and watch it
Yup alot of blink and you missed cartoons back in the day. I remember some of this also Bucky O'Hare which is a great game.
@Real Donald Trump Harness The Power Baby!
@@Cosmicslopman Bucky O'Hare was badass, loved me some Deadeye Duck.
@@thumpire Yeah it's a classic that suffered because it was near the end of the nes lifespan. It's another groovy konami soundtrack as well.
Personally, Mess is my main, but most kids at that time played as Mustapha. He was so popular that the game was even called the "Mustapha" game.
one of the best beat em ups ever made
This is one of the best beat em ups ever made
Looks like a good 90s style beat em up. If it got a home console port i would try it out. Also, with the graphics i don't refer to that as "pixel art". Those are sprites.
I don't know if this is still available but I found this game on an app.
in my childhood days in arcade we called it "Mostofa" and still call it Mostafa game :P
My wife and I have played this a million times. I love the music like most Capcom music from this time period. Still waiting for the day this gets rereleased on something. Also, the Dino’s won’t mess with you if you don’t mess with them and keep that fat dude from hitting them.
Total length of video: 310 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 2 secs.
.65% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk."
Cheers ears
This is one of those weird games that all my gamer friends know about somehow, but we never played in arcades. We did however play it "anyway we could" 😉
Played it a lot...
This is the 3rd best beat em up of all time.
Cadillac and dinosaur arcade was awesome.
First time I heard was the cartoon back in the day.
Loved the comic and cartoon growing up. And the RPG was fun too.
This, The Punisher, and Alien vs Predator are the magnum opus of beat em ups
3:28 Bad guy taking a smoke break made me laugh! May be a reason it never got home port?
This game was so popular in the arcades in Egypt just for Mustapha Cairo alone !!!
I remember playing and watching this!
The Sprite work is quite good!
This is a gem. Nothing but good times playing this one
I just saw some footage of a game I'd never heard of. "Night Slashers", a side scrolling beat 'em up that had a horror theme with of zombies, werewolves, and gore. Know anything about this one? The footage I saw had been modded to have The Evil Dead's Ash as a playable character.
