Dragonball Z Super Battle is one of those ones where you can see Banpresto's love for the series. Every character has a unique ending that is a twist on what happened in the actual manga (this happens later in the SuperSonic Warriors series).
Great list! Second time Dino Rex has popped up in a few days for me. Weird since I’ve been into emulation since 97ish… and while a ‘new’ game pops up (I was severely late to boogie wings) it feels like Dino Rex is being shoved at me like UA-cam’s saying PLAY THIS NOW (And I /did/ just get RetroArch running on my iPad here sooooo…..) Fun additional Dino Rex fact - PLAYERS CANNOT CHANGE SIDES If you end up on opposite sides, controls are lost and both Dinos WALK TO RESET to their correct side So no crossups here (whew looks like a blast)
I feel like we get the same videos in our feed. Who was the other one who talked about Dino Rex? Sexa Lord X? Game Sack?? Or maybe it was that guy who talks about 2D fighters...jmc something? lol
I lived in Japan for spurts of my youth (military kid) and I played DBZ: VRVS without having any idea how to play it or what was going on....but I loved DBZ so, I had to try it. Funny part, for me, is that for years I convinced myself the game never existed since no one I talked to had ever heard of it.....until UA-cam came along and validated my memory.
Joe & Mac Returns did eventually get a console port, but it was on more recent platforms by Flying Tiger Entertainment under the series name: Johnny Turbo's Arcade, which was later changed to Retro Classix.
The random running or seemingly dino-trainer looking humans in DINO REX was hilarious... The futile attempt to get a ragin Triceratops to settle down cant help but make me think of THE SIMPSONS, and the Gentle Ben talk show... "NO Ben...!" 😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😅😂
Fun fact: Gentle Ben was a _REAL_ TV show, and yes they used a real bear. It wasn't an invention of the Simpsons, the Simpsons simply did a joke about something that already actually existed in the real world.
Random comment here, it makes me super stoked to see you are subscribed to Townsends on UA-cam, it's such a great channel and I love seeing others who are into that type of history.
Starting the day off right with another SNES Drunk amazingly perfect melodic harmony up top. Nice find on the Nemo game. The NES Nemo has some of the most amazing music on the 8 bit console. Riding Fight looks like a total blast too. Keep up the amazing work. Love all the videos. Thanks SNES Drunk. 🥁😎🥁
Good lord! Dino Rex's graphics looks like Jason & the Argonauts or some other movie from that time. Stop motion sprites....huh,...that's a first for me.
A few other things that are worth pointing out: Ganryu has a modern day sequel that's out on Switch and PS4, not sure if it's available elsewhere. I'm also not sure if it's any good or not, but it is a thing that exists. Also, thunder Fox was available on the first Taito Legends compilation for the PS2 and XBox, so if you have either, that's an available option. Finally, Joe & Mac Returns, Robo Army, Vandyke and Zero Team are all available on Switch and PS4 as part of the Arcade Archives series, so if you're interested in any of these games you can check them out there!
“Hi, thanks for taking the time to watch this.” I will watch pretty much anything you put out, I adore this channel. I want to thank you for reading this and I hope you have a great rest of your day.
Played Thunder Fox in Bosnia in 1996. I was in elementary and could never find it until now. Instantly recognized it by the first level. Thank you for literally finding the game from my childhood during the war 😂
This was a good one. Thanks for the tip about Top Hunter being on the Switch. I'd love a series that highlights the best retro/arcade/lesser known games that are available on the Switch. Always looking for something new to play.
A friend of mine had one of those SNES adapters that allowed you to play Famicom games, and we often played one of those Japanese Super Butouden Dragon Ball Z fighting games. I feel like people rag on them a little now--they aren't as good as these arcade games, but we loved them as kids.
Awesome video! I love learning about obscure arcade games. I think the only one on this list that I've played is "Top Hunter Roddy & Catchy" way back when at an arcade when I was a kid. I didn't even know Joe & Mac had a sequel! Tumble Pop and Joe & Mac are some of my favorite arcade games, so will definitely have to check out Joe & Mac Returns! Have a gravy day, SNES Drunk!
Just so you know, Joe & Mac Returns did actually get a home console port eventually, for the Switch, if you want to play it that way. Also a couple of years ago there was a new game in the series called New Joe &. Mac Caveman Ninja which is still a 2D side scroller but uses modern 2D graphics instead of pixel art. I haven't played it, but apparently it's brutally difficult. But yeah just letting you know in case you wanted to try it out.
@@duffman18 Thanks, man! I will have to pick up Returns at some point as it looks like a lot of fun. I did pick up the New Joe & Mac on Switch a dew months ago and it is great! I actually like the new style of the game.
7:12 DINO REX MENTIONED DINO REX SWEEP BABEEEEEH WOOOOOO There's a couple videos out there that go into the history of that games development and it's honestly mildly interesting and entertaining on its own. Also the story of the Dino Rex tournament run a while back. Fun stuff.
It might seem like a bad translation, but "It's a gravy day" isn't so crazy. "Gravy" is slang for "good" or "a bonus". Sometimes "gravy" is a noun meaning "money". A quote from Platoon is an example (and maybe an inspiration): “All you gotta do is make it out of here, it’s all gravy. Every day, the rest of your life, is gravy.” "It's a gravy day" could be "a good day" or "a lucrative day".
Slight correction on Thunder Fox but it did also get a US Sega Genesis release in 1991 but no version for Europe/PAL regions. But given how much graphics and content was stripped out and the lack of two player I'm not sure if it would have fared much better for SNES in 1991 with it's lower screen resolution than the Genesis. It definitely would have had a wider variety of colors though.
Top Hunter also have special moves that you need to input like in fighting games. Guy can do something like Terry's power wave and girl can do fast kick like Chun Li
I love hearing about all these arcade games that never seen or got to play I really need to set up and build me a cabinet for emulation cuz I want that old school feel to it. And I also love the naming of so many of these games where it's just what sounds cool put two of those cool words together that's the name of the game
Joe and Mac Returns _DID_ eventually get a home console port, for the Switch, so that's a way to play it, an easier way certainly, because trying to get games working in MAME is always a complete crapshoot.
Here's a tip for people checking out light gun games from these videos anyway they can, If you have a Wiimote laying around, they can be used on PC as light guns, you just need a USB sensor bar and to configure some stuff in MAME. You can find some guides easily on UA-cam. Alternatively, if you a modded Wii or WiiU, there are MAME versions for these consoles that can run them using Wiimotes as lightguns. May not be as good as playing the game on it's original cabinet, but I think it's the next best thing
I love this channel I always finding out some weird weird games that never in my life I've seen so much as a screen grab. It's really a testament for the popularity of arcades in the 80s and 90s off the sheer bulk of games that were made, even if some aren't the best , still would be worth a coin to experience the fun😅 Oddly enough, in my country we'd get some Japanese games, probably imported to Brazil first because their Japanese community is huge. I played Dragon Ball Z virtual versus, quite a lot when I was in the absolute hype of dragon Ball z in my teenage years. I probably was the only one who did because the controls were really unconventional. That one was almost ported to the 3do(there was a demo in game shows) but was cancelled when the console flopped.

never knew there was a DBZ arcade game...that VRVS one looks fun...that should be re-released now for VR sets...Nemo would've been dope as a SNES "sequel" to the NES one, despite not being exactly the same....Gun Master looks like it could've been done, same w/ Thunder Fox (since it did get a mega drive version)....will buy Top Hunter now....surprised Robo Hunter isn't available...Riding Fight looks like it could've been ported, especially if they used Mode 7....surprising Dino Rex didn't get a release, especially during the dino boom after JP...Primal Rage got released w/ obvious concessions, DR prob could have too.
The Banpresto Dragon Ball games made it to Europe at the time, so they didn't technically stay in Japan. Oh, and the Joe & Mac sequel got re-released on Switch and I think other consoles as well, so no need to "keep an eye out" on that one.
Great stuff Alex! Now we need the modding community to work on Nemo by changing the scepter to a q-tip or ski poles so we can get Lane Myer from Better Off Dead (he could even fight the Van Halen burger)😂
I was hoping you'd get around to Top Hunter! I was obsessed with this game as a kid and begged for quarters just for it! Thanks for alerting me that it's on Switch. I also back the recommendation for Ganryu, it's pretty cool.
I was legitimately starting to think Super Battle was some kind of fever dream from when I was a kid. Before I even knew what DBZ was I found the game at a random restaurant when traveling. I thought it was so cool, but was never able to find it again, and even when looking through games online I could never find it. Turns out it was because this random restaurant had imported it and it just got buried under the avalanche of DBZ games we've gotten over the years.
