I love this channel. Been following it for years and I love the way it's grown and he has grown(literally) the channel and the things he does. So many of my interests are covered by him, and his other channel All The Gear, No Idea. Love it!
Love the 3d prints but my favourite feeder will always be the "grandpa" style chicken feeders because they are rodent-proof! And also because it's hilarious to watch chickens deliberately stomp on the pedal to lift the lid.
wow, here i am again worked my way up from a ender to a P1S mostly because i was stoked about the stuff you printed haha learning fusion practically is def. a skillset of its kind, i can slap out a practical print in about an hour if i need something, getting better and better
Dude I would love to see a long form deep dive into bee keeping. It makes complete sense for you to have a hive or two to help with pollination. And I can already see the wheels turning in your head about making mead. I know your gonna do it.
Hey! Love your vids. Funny you said about your galangal staying green all winter, we are in the Fraser Coast (Queensland) and ours has done the same thing?! I do the same, my brain is either "uninterested or utterly obsessed" too 🙂
You know what would make a good 3D print project? An inline float valve sized for aquarium air line tubes. I'm thinking something a little bigger than a 1 way check valve. I would use it to maintain water level in a 5 gal bucket.
I've been wanting to try out the Flow hive, but I have an Apimay hive and it's made of thick insulated plastic and doesn't open. Good hive tho... interesting mini hive. I think I'd have to stack several of those smaller sections on to make it big enough for all the bees from one of my hives. I have another hive, a home made top bar hive that i made from half a water barrel. I didn't know the bees would cross comb on the top bars when I put them in or I'd have separated the top bars by a quarter inch or so. Makes it hard to get the honey comb out when I want to harvest. Another thing I discovered about using half a water barrel is that in the winter moisture builds up in the hive so you have to put drainage holes to let the water out in the bottom AND the bees will try to plug them up. Transferring the bees to another hive is my plan, but I don't have one yet.
the walls on the hooch hive are way to thin. Bees need some insulation buffer. Might be functional as a mild climate nuc hive for splits. as it looks to be about the same volume as 3 standard deep langstroth frames. I get you're tying to keep within print bed limitations. Personally not a fan of any plastic contact with my bees...that's why I don't rate the Flowhive. I would recommend trying to use standard frame dimensions as it will allow interchangeability of frames between different hives. My personal preference is to make a euro spec long hive out of a sheet of ply and use the 4ft width as the hive length using standard deep frames. Or think of it as a top bar hive using deep frames...
i was going to say the same thing. bees can regulate their temperature, fanning if it is too hot, and dancing if it gets too cold, but you need to buffer them from the outside temp. there needs to be insulations. i find the thin pine boxes to be bad even. Wyoming gets cold fast. insulation is a must
I would love to see what Mitch might come up with for an outdoor cat feeder. We have barn cats it would be nice to have a feeder for them if we had to be gone a day or so.
hey hooch, could you make a hive that uses both wood and petg/plastic? for walls and such, wood tends to be cheaper for me. i'll definitely try out the chicken feeder though, i might try making something similar for my rabbits, though they tend to chew on plastic when bored
Great updates, subbed to the patreon immediately, one question I have is what do I cover my print with to prevent bacteria? Internet says water based polyurethane works, do you do anything like that?
I had to also have a conventional super on my hive as well as the flow super. Without it the bees would fill up the brood box and want to swarm. Have you waxed the flow frames yet. It took me two seasons (springs) for them to get it fully waxed and to start filling. 🍺🍺
First I had the flow under the conventional. Then swapped them around. My hive was really strong. Unfortunately they (2 hives) mysteriously died instantly overnight. Now the neighbours have a new entertainment area and pool. No coincidence at all 🤬
I wonder if he thinks about copyright infringement and how close he comes to copying ideas that might already be patented. I wonder how that works. He has some really good creations. 🤔🤔. Nonetheless, I love this channel and am thinking about becoming a member.
@@poet79eyes I think about this a lot actually, (there’s a reason I haven’t redesigned an Autopot autovalve, well that’s not true… I have and I won’t release it) But designs like this are ubiquitous. Also. Patents stifle innovation, that’s why I’ve never had anything patented
plastic not good for bees as black attracts heat and turns the chemical reaction to slight fumes inside whilst bees will cook unfortunately. love the concept tho

Can you do a video on vertical DIY aeroponic tower, with a misting nozzle instead of just a waterfall ?
As a South African, It's so good to see you after winter and doing well. Loving the channel. Keep it up, mate.
Love the design well done
If I had a 3D printer I would definitely have those Hoocho mini nuc in my garden.

Welcome to the bee rabbit hole! Trust me you want at least 3 pads for hives 😂 i started with 1 6 years ago and am now at 11

The old white cheap esky foam has been a great insulator for the 3 native bee hives we had at my last place of residence
PS.. you may need to reconsider the material for your printed hive, the black will be way to hot for the bees.
That's a big steal @ $7.. Why not also do a drinker besides the feeder, so that the combo is taken care of!

We should Co lab brother. my garden needs some expert help. SE QLD here
You can get 'food grade' material for 3D printers then? Costs about the same?
What made you go with European honeybees instead of native stingless bees. Rob Bob has a colony of stingless bees. I'm sure he'd make a split for you.
I wonder if a flash with a torch or heat gun would seal these prints.
