Batman laughing is something horrifying beyond all reason
It's just unnatural for such a character.

The sex scene itself deserves 50 sins
It's no sex In this movie
They only show 1 second of it before the camera changes
Michael Mello plus it’s actually canon in one comic series that they were together at one point as he points out to bruce that she’s about five months pregnant and bats congratulates her and dick before she tells him dick has been gone for 3 and then Batman realizes that he “screwed” up
@@theillusionaryone THATS A BRUH MOMENT HERE
Which one, Batman or Joker?
Fun fact - The movie was actually two separate stories written by two separate authors! Of course, they fit together so seamlessly you'd never know.... Right? Right?

Maybe it's different in Gotham City, but in the real world libraries don't hire teenage girls as librarians, mainly because librarians have to have a Master's degree. In other words, regardless of what we think about Batman having sex with Batgirl, it's _not_ statutory rape.
+Anonymous Anonymous Was Barbara's backstory changed at some point? I confess that I'm a very casual comic reader, so I may have missed a change, but the backstory I'm familiar with has Barbara employed as a librarian in Gotham City. And as I mentioned in my original post, that's not a position filled by teenage girls. The youngest Barbara should be is in her mid-twenties.
That doesn't mean I'm saying you're wrong about Batman being old enough to be Barbara's father, though. I've always imagined that he was somewhere between his mid-thirties to mid-forties (depending on the comic book era), so if Batman as portrayed in _The Killing Joke_ movie was at the higher end of that age scale, he could still be old enough to be her father (roughly 20 year age gap).
+Anonymous Anonymous In that movie, however, Barbara's backstory was different. She wasn't the Commissioner's daughter, she was Alfred's niece.
@Anonymous Anonymous cool!
Rated R movie
villains censor themsleves
Also no nudity, more mild sexuality than Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, (which were marketed to kids), and the violence is pretty tame.
So... They asked for an R rating to make it seem like it was for an older audience to explain why it had so many boring stretches?
I believe the message in this movie was too adult like for little kids
Wasnt R rated where I'm from it was 15
+xXL3g3NdLaloXx the message is a little too severe for little kids, they were basically demeaning batgirl, it was implied that the joker raped batgirl, she had sex with her mentor who is at least 20 years her senior, she was emotionally unstable after her affair, she got shot, the joker kidnapped her father stripped him naked and mentally tortured him, that would be adult like for kids, the message of the movie would be too much for kids to understand let alone handle, I personally didn't care for the movie...
+xXL3g3NdLaloXx yes but there were multiples messages, it was the same way within the comics, however they added some things in the movie, either way this movie would be considered adult like for kids
10:53 the chemicals didn't make him go mad, everything that happened to him put together did. the entire point of this origin story is to show how one bad day can change someone forever, it's what happened to the joker, it's what happened to batman and it's what the joker is trying to do to gordon
interesting
All of this was to try and prove a point. That every supposedly good man, could go insane after just 1 terribly bad, bad day.
To clear everything about the movie being so twisted and Batman comics being this twisted, just read the comics or got to a channel "Comicstorian" and play the Batman: The Killing Joke video. In the comics the motive is explained in an extremely better manner. Also, the movie had to be sexist to prove a point and also, Joker did it to show that one bad day can make anyone go mad. On Joker's bad day his wife died with his unborn child and he fell in a vat of chemicals which completely ruined his appearance.
Lord Bluimus They made batgirl a dumb lovesick mary-sue like Bella from twilight even though she and Batman's relationship wasn't sexual at all in the comics. They ruined her personality for the fuck of it. Batman is like 40 and she's like 22 he's old enough to be her father and is close friends with her father. Its creepy and gross.
Ordinarily it isn't. Its just that Batman was always like a second father to his side kicks.
Therefore, making Batgirl and Batman a couple without easing it in, or showing that they have a meaningful relationship at all will be jarring to most.
The orignal Killing Joke was about the Joker showing that anyone can go mad under the right circumstances. And he's Joker, so it had to be am amusement park
ua-cam.com/video/KziTIhN6hNg/v-deo.html
To show that he peeled off his face and stapled it to batmans and then covered his eyes and convinced the whole bat family that he had plucked their eyes out. Before then he had tortured original robin to the point of insanity and disability.
@@raptorjesus5870 wait isn't that under the red hood storyline?
"Batgirl defeats Batman? What the hell is going o-- What the fuck!?"
Aaaand you pretty much captured my real-time thoughts while seeing that scene in the theater, Jeremy.
I agree they had the badass Jason Todd get his ass beat by Batman in UTRH and then he loses to Batgirl??
you guys think Batman would use full force fighting Barbra?
Bruce didn't know Jason was The Red Hood. Allowing him to use full force because he was fighting someone who was going to kill him.
+Bryce Carter I think he would subdue her non-lethally, but any negative feelings I had about that part were quickly overshadowed by the ones I felt over BatSex.
This didn't show in theaters... What was the point of lying about that anyway?
+SulfuR ` It had a limited theatrical release.
Dude really this movie was all over the place. They kinda wasted Mark Hamill's time
It did
there wasn’t enough Joker in it so Mark barely did anything. But when he was in it the movie was awesome
Yes, because the studios only pay Mark Hamill for roles in movies that the fans think are good.
STILL better than The Last Jedi
The last half was great, they should've split this into something like Batgirl: Sleepless in Gotham and a separate Killing Joke movie with Hamill from start to finish.

Geez, can a lady not wear what she wants these days? Ugh, so triggered.
do we really need to argue? though who wears nothing under a costume? (suits are like costumes but n stuff)
Hell, I'd argue that she wouldn't even wear an extra layer of clothing under her rubber/leather/whatever the suits are made of, and that a bra would be built in. It's more practical that way
+Shinu Yashami if she tough that was a pretty bra... terrible tastes she has.
+Natalia Olivas This is the kind of response I like not complaing about how fanservicey costumes but instead complaining about how that would make them impractical.
The problem with this..."adaptation"...is that it should've concentrated on Jim Gordon for the first half, seeing how it's him the Joker is trying to drive insane in the second. The whole Batgirl thing was stupid.
N Slater it was the worst batman movie. I didn’t understand the batgirl and Batman thing
BobbyMicThicc Thicc
If you cut out the first half it's alright.
A Batmam movie even half-focused on Gordon and him dealing with all the crazy bullshit that goes on in Gotham with Batman as a side-character at most would be pretty kickass.
Batman: Year One is right up your alley.
Bobby Bobby the direction for the actors was crap as well, a fan doing the famous monologue, in a Hamill impression from almost 10 years ago, ended up doing a better job than Hamill. That’s completely sinful in animated films
Everything wrong with The Killing Joke: The entire first act that has nothing to do with The Killing Joke itself exists. *Infinite dings*
it familiarizes the audience with the characters and adds depth to barbara, showing how important her's and batman's relationship is so that when joker paralyzes and rapes her, on top of trying to turn gordon insane, it'll make the likeliness that batman will be tempted to break his one rule of killing be even greater. it also shows how she became oracle which is a pretty essential thing in the batman mythos. it also adds a possible "multiple choice" origin story for the joker. the "killing" joke is that batman finally realizes he has to kill the joker and that he can't win, he can only half-win by losing that battle (killing this one time) to win the war (joker never being able to hurt anyone again).
cXspXr I don’t really think Barbara was raped, it just doesn’t seem like something the joker would do.

+Squiglypig that is gold
+Squiglypig where do you come up with this fire?🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
In Gotham City born and raised,
Figntin' crime is how I spent most of my days,
Chillin' out maxin' fightin' bad guys and all cool
And all the while tryin' to bang my boss Bruce,
When a couple of gangsters,
Who were up to no good,
Started making the moves in my neighborhood,
One of them had my as a fetish and Batman got scared,
He said
'All right, Barbara, you're otta this case.'
And then I told him, that's just bull, without the shit,
Then he said, "We're not equals", and that got me pissed,
So then we fought, then we made out, then we had sex, all over the town,
And then after what I'd call a perfect night, he stopped calling me to help him fight crime,
So now I had to go through partnership loss, because I wanted to free them nasty thoughts,
I caused him pain, he stayed away, I hoped I didn't turn him gay,
After thinking it through at home, I called him on the Batphone,
It was awkward, what can I say he took my virginity away.
He said "We'll talk later", and I said "That's It" and brought me back to being pissed,
And then I heard an explosion, and crash, and then I found out it was Paris the ass,
So I kicked the shit out of him, until he made a joke about my period,
I then I went off into the abyss, but stopped when Batman got scared and said "You're never gonna come back from it ever again",
So I decided it was better to quit, before I killed someone while I was pissed, and also for putting Batman through all that shit,
So after a day, I visited my dad in order to get over Batman and stop feeling bad,
I heard a knock on the door thought it was my friend, turned out to be the Joker with a gun in his hand,
I got shot in the uterus, couldn't stand, couldn't feel anything by the waist up, or the waist down because I got shot by a psychotic clown,
And so he took my dad, stripped me off my clothes, took some picture, and called me a hoe,
And then he walked up to door, turned around and said "Yo hoe, smell you later",
Then I was taken to the hospital by my dad's friend, where doctors told I would never walk again,
And now that I'm out of the hospital, I now live with my dad again at his place, the police I have cleaned like the accident was gone without a trace,
But I still remember what happened there, and that's how I became confined to a stupid-ass wheelchair.
"Batman stops off for a coffee on the way to the crime scene? What's THAT drive-thru conversation like?"
I laughed so fucking hard at that!

the batsex alone should be worth 100 sins
I second that.
Despite the fact that various comic iterations suggest and even outright show Batman and Batgirl having some kind of deeper relationship? Lol. Not a big batman fan are you?
+Shadow07Warrior1989 tell me which ones despite the new batman adventures comics
+Shadow07Warrior1989 Exactly
+Shadow07Warrior1989 what makes this movie worse for this is because they're using the same actors from TAS, in which Barbara was still more or less a kid, and Bruce is in his 40s. It just feels creepy, as it feels like this is a direct sequel to the series even though it isn't.
A lot of people taking the video too seriously. Claiming they are "Nitpicking". It's CinemaSins, a comedy, nitpicking is what makes it funny. Want a serious review? then go and watch a serious review.
Usually I'm okay with it, but it felt like most of the video was nitpicking. Yes, we all hate the first act, but even in that part, the nitpicks were so frequent that the joke just gets diluted, and stops being funny.

Barbara deserved better. I was all in for her getting more to do in the story other than "get shot and propel Bruce and Jim's plots" but I didn't want a whiny teenager complaining/arguing with her mentor for not sleeping with her. That's insulting.
I know. She's probably my favorite dc character, especially as Oracle, and the movie did her a complete disservice.
Yeah they genuinely did her dirty. Seriously everyone already loves her why fix what wasn’t broken.
She got shot in the comic and they planned her getting shot because they ended her comics before the killing joke comic came out
@@privateterry2885 I get that. I'm talking specifically Barbara in the movie, not the comic. Alan Moore didn't expect the story to be in continuity, which seems on brand for him, with the exception of Swamp Thing.
Movie Barbara's additional stuff outside of what happened in the original story I felt was very lackluster for her character.
@@MarauderTwilight your thinking of a theory he did expect it to be main continuity
i agree fully. spending time to build barbera and bruce's relationship WAS a good idea but man, oh man was it executed poorly to a downright insulting degree.
I give cinema sins 10 sins for not taking off sins for both Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill because they are the Batman and joker combo ever
Both of them being in this movie couldn't save it. That's actually just another sin on the movie's part.
the movie was great i dont know what you mean by save it
the only bad part was the first 30 minutes
Would have been nice if CinemaSins did that when they sinned Mask of the Phantasm. Hopefully TV Sins will do the right thing when they inevitably sin a Batman: Animated Series episode.
Sin the first fourty minutes' every second.
I've watched the killing joke like 10 times but everytime other than the first I skip that bit and go straight to the actual killing joke
More like 29 minutes.
Yeah, I'll probably do the same on subsequent viewings, but I also understand that without it, the movie would have been very short.
+Abigail Archer-Addams Me too, they should have made a story that involves Batgirl and Joker.
The first 40 minutes has exactly 0 to do with the original story lol. It's basically crash exposition for people who have no idea Batgirl existed.
Steps on a LEGO, she will never walk again
Understandable honestly
"she tripped over carpet, she will never walk again"
Little known fact, Batman actually does have sex with Batgirl in the comics. However, she gets pregnant, and Batman tricks her into getting an abortion by putting her into the middle of a gang hideout without helping her, causing her to get beat so badly the baby dies. It's one of the numerous reasons Nightwing had a falling out with Batman.
Also, Joker's origin story in this movie is a trick, as each flashback is Joker reminiscing about his past, and it mentions that Joker's past changes whenever he remembers it "If I'm going to have a backstory, I prefer for it to be multiple choice."
Edit: Ok, I messed up. People are telling me that BatGirl had actually gone off on her own while Bruce explained to Dick that he had sex with her, all of this happening while she gets a miscarriage from the fight. Sorry, I was misinformed. Although if you want to hear more about Batman being a bad guy, I believe there's a paper written by William Kuskin that analyzes Batman, and finds out some some crazy stuff. I can't find it, but it definitely exist. Again, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to lie. There is a lot of sources questions Batman's character and ethics, so if you want to you should go looking for it.
Nope only in the DCAU
Kye Dysarthria Crap. Well I mean if it's happened in one universe, whose to say it can't happen in another?
Good taste.
Wait, this is DC. Yeah, ok, nothing to say it can't happen.
.......wow......did he really do that?
Ray Muniz Yeah, and he sat in the shadows watching it. Remember, Batman basically represents Fascism, so he will do things he views as the "greater good."
DC had been teasing Killing Joke for years. Finally comes out, and it's shockingly awful. Cinema Sins spot on here.
If anything, the major issue is the writers decided to be utterly incompetent. The actual Killing Joke stuff is good. Everything they added was garbage. Just they added so much that the Killing Joke is a gem under a pile of crap.
Problem is, Killing Joke can't really fit a movie. It's actually really short, especially considering the difference between a comic and a movie. In a comic you can have a fight scene last for pages, in a movie even the most OTT and bombastic fight scenes last about 10 minutes. Not to mention the simple fact that scenery needs less focus in a movie. So an already moderately short comic is made even shorter by the transition to movie.
Killing Joke should never have been a full movie. It should've been either an Internet only Animated cartoon episode, or a hidden gem packaged with a feature-length DC Movie.
The other major issue is that the movie has to establish Batgirl (something they did a TERRIBLE job at). When Killing Joke came around we already knew who Batgirl was, we knew her motivation, her story, her father's protectiveness, we knew it all. This move tried to establish her as a character alongside the actual story of Killing Joke.
Agreed. I was happy, but surprised when DC said Killing Joke was next. As you said, the comic is short, so I guess in hindsight I should have figured they'd be throwing in some filler. I just didn't expect it to be that bad. Love to see them do an animated movie on Hush. Plenty of story there. I think Court of Owls is next though, which is a story I thought was great. Hopefully the movie will be the same.
What angers me and I'm torn about it is that they tried to make us "feel" for Barbara when she's shot. However, in my mind the intent of the shooting was to show Batman that even someone like Gordon can go insane when something bad happens. The shooting wasn't about Barbara, but Joker proving his philosophy to Batman.
They already did Court of Owls. It was one of the Batman and Damien Wayne films.
The beginning half was an attempt to hide the fact that Batgirl was just a plot device used by Alan Moore, it should never have been included, the last half is completely loyal to the source material and great
Powergirl is a different version of the character from another earth. Oracle is just Batgirl.
@@TwentyFirstPilot Supergirl and Power Girl are two completely different individuals, to the point that in some continuities they're not even from the same dimension.
I hate the fight seen between Batman and joker in the movie. Like wtf with the upside down room?? And some of the best joker lines were missing in the movie as well :/
They should have stricken with the comic a lot better.
Morriholly 20 Yeah Joker's monologue was so great in the comic and they shortened it for the movie.
@@SarajevoKyoto The only time the two werent considered the same person was briefl in the 90s and early 2000s. They retcont the dc universe and got rid of super girl as a character because they wanted superman to be the last kryptonian so both the super girl and power girl of that era werent kryptonians, they were humans who had magical powers. Around 2005 I think they realized that was dumb and reintroduced super girl and made powergirl her earth two version again which was the original idea of the character

I love how DC writers never agree on who can be Dick's or Bruce's lover. Like Barbara or Zatanna or whatever? It's just weird to see it change all the time.
I thought Bats is digging it with Diana.
Really it just depends on what time the story is released (unless it's an adaptation). For Dick, hes usually with Barbara and Bruce is usually with Catwoman. Like I said though, it varies.
Dick's also often with Starfire
To me, Bruce’s state in _Batman Beyond_ is his canonical End.
The only lover for Batman I accept as worth writing about is Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman. No other female character is both his anti-thesis as a hero nor is a such a well made match for his intensity. I also refuse to believe Batman could settle down with anyone that wasn't at least bullet proof without having a panic attack at the thought of being in a relationship.
Jesus Christ this movie was disappointing.

Despite every single animated or live interpretation of Batman and Batgirl having something of a father and daughter relationship with the accpettion of 1. Same people who made this also made the 90s Batman show where it is also the only other time they tried to push the Batman/Batgirl thing. Which was also werid as fuck as they did have the family bond thing there to, which....the fuck.
Also, at the original showing at comic con of this film, when the bat sex scene came up. Every one was actually taken aback and disgusted. Yes really, that shit made it into the news. There was a whole q&a about it and that shit was the major drawback. So much so that 1 of the people behind the film was willing to fight over it. I believe he said somthing like
Come up and say that to my face you pussy.
In fact, check some old post from the early 2000s and the whole thing with Batman and Batgirl from the animated show was never liked by the community at large. Back then it came across as incest, because they always had that family feel to each other. Seeing how Batman brought her up. Trained her, taught life lessons and even help in her social life.
The writers thought the whole hook up would of been big with the fans despite not a single 1 liking the angle since it orginally aired. Want to know why. because she was dating Dick, the first Robin. Who was basically Batmans son, so in turn he banged his sons girlfriend. Its hinted that they did fuck around behind Dicks back in the show I shit you not. If not fucked, Batman Tried to seduce her away from his son after becoming a 2nd father to her. See why no one likes this shit.
It's honestly 1 of the few times writing like that has ever disgusted me. Not really, but what a fucking scummie thing to do. Or to write in a GODAMN BATMAN STORY!
Why are people giving Jeremy shit for acknowledging how weird this movie is towards women...? Like yeah he mentions it a bit too much but calling every line "SJW bullshit" is extremely cringe worthy.

So right. If he didn't read The Killing Joke then he should have so he could understand this story. Seems like them and Screen Junkies have been shit lately. CinemaWins are awesome though.
Slave2thedrago not really I've enjoyed them the way i enjoyed CinemaSins in the beginning
bigevilworldwide1 when did he say that
He never reads source material for anything.
Ivo Robotnik Sorry but the whole fucking point is too cause confusion and conversation about whether he killed Joker or not.
Batman was unaware of his surroundings because he was distracted by his love for Batgirl. Which is silly, but the batmobile still should have detected the missile.
Also, I have never laughed so hard in my life!
This version of Batman is very clumsy. He lost to Batgirl in fist fight, let her get her way. He got ambush multiple times, they downgrade him to spotlight Batgirl. This is an insult to Batman mythology, especially Arkham Batman.
Does anyone remember Mask of the Phantasm? Way better than this crap.
I feel you fam a lam.
To be fair, Mask of the Phantasm is probably in the top 5 superhero movies ever, my second favorite batman story as well
The second Joker origin, to a degree since not all of it was featured, told that discards the campy Red Hood origin and uses the more realistic Jack Napier origin. Just was the Noir tone of the film needed.
That was my SHIT back in the day. I could be nostalgically biased but I think that's the best animated batman movie.
Belial61 You're not, it was bad ass, so yeah it was the best animated Batman movie.
Here's the one thread that makes the Batgirl story relevant (Not great, not appropriate, but relevant). Batman's whole reason for taking her off the case was that Franz got under her skin. Pushed her to a limit. Batgirl and Franz were going down the same road that Batman and Joker had already been down, and it got him thinking about who was going to kill who. Because Barbara came _that close_ to killing Franz. He didn't want Franz's murder on Barbara's conscience, and it pushed him to see Joker, because Batman didn't want Joker's death on his conscience.
Even though it might have been in the end anyway, if they hadn't gone with that unnecessary post credit scene.
did you just sin Batman for carrying something to neutralize acid???? You questioned why the Dark Knight has a neutralizer on him while trying to stop the joker who consistently uses acid???
Also Batman doesn't Fucking kill....
+happybobjr1 he has killed though
+A BabyBackRib Not with intent though.
+Pingas Pearce no, after Jason Todd died he went all 'fuck it' and started to kill.
Seansi Yeah after that though he didn't kill again, hence why jason todd was angry for him not killing the Joker to avenge him. If he started killing after that it wouldn't make sense for jason todd to be angry at him.
9:03 Wait a minute. "Some dark stuff for a Batman story"? Batman is probably one of the darkest comic book universes.

The writers commented on the weird plot in an interview, they started with everything from the killing joke issue and realized the movie wasn't long enough so they tried adding a story from another issue they thought they could make relevant to the final plot.
I think I would've preferred it if they went with the collection of stories written over the years that Joker most effectively chipped away at Batman's resolve, like when Joker killed Jason among other times and Barbara getting shot happens closer to the beginning and being the catalyst for Batman's twisted trip down memory lane. Or better yet they could've killed three birds with one stone and combined the Killing Joke, A Death in the Family, and Under the Red Hood storylines which I think would all compliment each other quite well if done right.
"I don't think they could plug a computer in their ass." ... What... is that even supposed to mean?
I'm pretty sure it means people's asses don't have sockets you can plug your computer into.
Darena Bryant I mean in relation to what he said directly before that.
VideoGameLova1 I have no idea I think Paris wanted to try and plug a computer up someone's ass
I think they just wanted to say ass in the movie videogamelova1
I don't know why you started sinning 'DC comics' but given how their movies have been lately, it's coincidentally starting to make sense
Because the "DC" stands for "Detective Comics", so adding another "comics" after is kinda weird.
Also they've been sinning DC comics as long as I can remember.
It's because DC comics stands for "Detective Comics comics". That's the sin.
I've said this before, but I've always been under the impression that DC never stood for anything. They just looked at their most successful series (Detective Comics) and used that as inspiration. So while Detective Comics did influence the initials DC, it doesn't actually stand for it. Kinda confusing.
+Randall Flagg
I always thought I was the only one who thought that was weird. 😂

yes it is...isn't that why dick grayson became nightwing?
No. Dick became Nightwing because he felt like Bruce was being too overbearing on him as Robin when he was older. Dick actually sat down and talked with Supes about it and contemplated retiring from vigilantism, and Clark recommended he break out and be his own hero, and Nightwing was born.

Dude, have you ever SEEN a Batman film?
wyatt roetcisoender *a gun can HURT batman
Or games? In Batman: Arkham Knight, the Arkham Knight shot Batman in the kidney, and Batman wasn't even affected by it.
This was an R rated movie. Hardly any cursing, minus Barbara getting shot, not much blood...I feel the ONLY reason this was R rated was just so they could include this sex scene between Batman and Batgirl. They should've included Nightwing in this movie. Personally, I'd be okay if they kept the sex scene but have Barbara have sex with Dick because it'd make perfect sense, given their history together. But with fucking Bruce?? That's just insulting.
Oh no. Can't do that. 'We need Dick to keep hopelessly chasing after Kori.' (just in case you didn't know, Kori is Starfire.)
And at the same time, Dark Knight Returns , with Joker murdering people en masse, prancing around with batarang in his eye socket, neck snapping and splitting someones neck open with a broken mug gets PG-13.
Guess it like in this old joke: US censorship - GORE GOOD, SEX BAD. EU censorship - SEX GOOD, GORE BAD
The sex scene isn't even explicit enough to be in an r rated movie

The problem with the Batgirl story is (aside from the fact that it feels so thematically and tonally different from the second act) that it feels like it was written by men who had very limited ideas about what women do in their spare time...e.g try to set eachother up on dates, or wistfully watch couples from a window. Instead of Batgirl getting an undiluted Batgirl story, she gets a Sex and the City/Sandra Bullock-esque romance with intermittent action scenes. I think CinemaSins is right about no women being involved in the writing.
Regarding 9:05, Barbara Gordon wasn't raped. They posed her and took photos of her while she was naked. This, although not rape, is still sexual assault.
And the ending (where the beam of light is turned off), at least in my interpretation, symbolises Batman's giving up hope on reforming the Joker and accepting the reality that eventually, he'll be forced to kill him.
Of course all they really show of batgirl is her relationship with batman, it's a batman movie, not a batgirl movie, not even a documentary that's supposed to show the daily life of all women everywhere like you and a few other people seem to think for some reason. The entire purpose of the first act was to make her shooting hit harder for people who haven't really read the comics, then get to the batman bit people actually paid to see. She is not the main character, an "undiluted batgirl story" was not the goal.
+CJTheInvader yes but why did she need a sexual relationship with barman. Are you saying batman wouldn't care if they didn't have sex. I thought the sex scene was actually very awkward and the movie could have done without. I think they either should have gone in and make them have a relationship or just treat her as a friend/colleague. I actually liked most of the movie and the ending. just not the beginning and that part.
Darkkan13 True, I agree with that, I think it was a very clumsy attempt to make her crippling have more meaning to batman, even though their relationship was always more father/daughter than anything else. It's actually pretty gross.
It is by far the creepiest thing they could have done to try to make Babs be well, important, to the plot considering Batman's relationship with Jim. But that's also the core problem with the movie I'd say- it tries too much to make Barbara relevant and important, when The Killing Joke is much more about her father then her. It's a story about Joker trying to prove a point to Batman that anybody can be turned into somebody like himself with just one really bad day, and decided that man was going to be Jim Gordon- putting aside the B-plot of the Joker origin story of course. She was never important to the story other than another way to torture Jim. Add in that this is set not long after Death in the Family, so Batman is already on nerve regarding Joker targeting people he's close to. I can understand feeling the need to up her role more to make her less of a plot device, but she was originally already retired from Batgirl and this was the sickest way to do it. It grossly overcompensated to the point where it's taken the story away from Jim.
+CJTheInvader
"These people call me the Dark Knight, but you can call me the Dark Daddy"
But to be on topic, not every woman does the same exact thing as another, that's the point. That's like saying, "You can't write an American person eating burgers and fries at mcdonalds daily", despite it being an actual thing some Americans do. And afaik, the writer for The Killing Joke is a male, so even still he wasn't at that much of an advantage to know what specific crime-fighting woman does with her spare time.

Agreed. Perfectly sums up my reaction to that entire scene too. 😂😂
Batgirl can wear a bra under that? Also, who thought bat sex was a good idea? I thought this was a Joker origin story
Boy nobody gives a fk about the age gap of bat girl and Batman. Batgirl is 18 and Batman is 35. he's twice her age.
oh fk it he's Batman.
Shit like that doesn't really matter in real life as long as she legal. Especially since they had bigger problems in their relation than an age gap. And she doesn't seem 18 imo.
Not that bad. Someone in my family was with a 60 year old when she was in her 30s, that would make him around 30 when she was born.
The bad thing is that she is 19 years old but thinks like a girl of 15 years. The problem of age of the two characters is troublesome because of the difference of mentality of the two characters, also, see this scene is even worse if you're a comic book fan, since Barbara is the girlfriend of Dick Grayson, Bruce's adopted son. You can not justify it because it's an animated movie. It's useless to the plot, is out of characters. Batman should be a positive figure in this story, however it looks like a jerk, not professional. Batgirl should be a totally positive figure.
She continually disobeys his boss when it's obvious that she can't do her job well, she doesn't take things seriously, just makes mistakes because of her inability to evaluate the situation, moreover, she gets angry with Batman because he scolds her because of her misconduct, claims to be at the level of Batman when she's not.
Why does she need all this to show off? Others vigilant follow the directives of Batman without protest, simply because he's the best strategically and because he has more experience. Why she should expect to be treated differently? Besides, if I'm not mistaken, Barbara says that she's considers herself the best of his students. Taking all of the mistakes that she makes, I think that Bruce's students sucks, if she's the best. The best student of Batman is Dick Grayson, and everyone knows it. In this film, Batgirl is depicted as an incompetent, who is not interested in protecting the city, but only to fuck batman. This is totally out of character Barbara Gordon, and is totally out of place to the killing Joke.
+Ariete Boshiva the reason why she was still with batman was because she wanted to have sex with him which is ridiculous

I'm posting this because it needs to be said... BATGIRL WAS NOT RAPED! The writer of the killing joke Alan Moore said it himself. He has written these kinds of scenes before so I don't think he was shy on pulling the trigger on this subject. She wasn't raped. Batman, Batwoman, Green Arrow, Starfire, Huntress, Nightwing (twice) all survivors. Batgirl was just shot.
Answer: Everything that happened before the actual The Killing Joke story.
My real issue with this movie was it was barey a PG-13 movie at best. I mean they say Mother F and crap. I think they said shit once. They came out and said it'd be a hard R but there was no nudity, barely any cursing, and it was almost like watching the original BTAS. Which I love but they pushed this as some gritty mature movie but its not. My second gripe is the one people have the most to complain about. WTF is up with them getting Babs and Bruce to F-? I don't remember that happening, ever. In fact Barbara was Dick's girlfriend, that would have caused issues lol. Also she just up and quit being Batgirl? Again not in the comics and it makes it kinda pointless.
***** Dude did you not pay attention? It was practically shouted at us by WB, I was blasted with videos with the news that it was going to R rated movie. A mature animated movie. Again this is not what we got.

Honestly, it is kinda bullshit. Batman gets his back broken by Bane and recovers. Barbara gets shot by Joker and is confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Two completely different stories, but, still.
To be fair, Oracle is awesome.
Quq Balam
Sure, but I'd like it better if she could walk and be Oracle at the same time.
Well he got it broken, she got a bullet brought it most likely severing it in half.
It that were true Batgirl wouldn't be alive. More than likely the bullet damaged the spine thus the paralysis.
the difference is (or at least from what i saw in the movie versions) batman got a slipped disk. batgirl got a bullet that pulverized some of her disk and probably messed the nerves up something fierce. so she would need surgery and batman didnt because he was able to slip it back into place.
when they remove the killing joke from netflix

Because not being able to have kids is now seen as a greater harm to a woman than being fucking paralyzed.

Alexander Chippel Ironically, the Batgirl have was created as a response to the complaint that the comic treats her solely as a motivation for the male heroes.
BlackCover95 Isn't that the same reason Marvel is failing? Because they shove a buch if uninteresting characters down their readers' throats and pretend it's because they actually care about pointless nonsense?
Alexander Chippel Don't tell me; I'm not the writer. I was just adding a fun fact.
