- Man, DC has made a LOT more animated superhero movies than I realized. Oh well, just more sins for me to hunt and collect! Batman: Under the Red Hood came out nearly a decade ago and while many of you had no idea... most all of you can agree this movie has some sins!
Thursday: Failed spinoff sins.

The Joke is that Robin THOUGHT he was going to get out alive. His hope is the setup and his realization that he's going to die is the punch-line.
CinemaSins, however, only takes things at very VERY literal levels.

What really annoys me is when two completely different characters get called copies, like obviously Deadpool took a huge chunk out of Deathstroke’s book but they have completely different personalities. Although I think we can all agree that Moon Knight is a rough one.

@@taylynhopkins To be more accurate, it was because he let his anger cloud his judgement and lead him to shatter his collarbone. If robin was thinking he would know that breaking his collarbone was gonna send him into shock. So it has more to do with him losing control which is exactly what batman took him in to prevent.

The leaving him alive with some hope of escape was kind of the joke. He was supposed to get all the way to the door he just saw Joker exit, only to find it locked with no time left to escape. It's to create that feeling of hopelessness.
@Casted_Shadows No, he was kidnapped, then the issue ended and the voting happened. No matter what, the bomb would have exploded. The checking the pulse thing he does was so they could just switch between one panel, as in the comic they explained how he was alive, the used the alternative panel.

The reason that Jason never had any blood on his face or wasn't massively mutilated by the explosion is because of the movie's age rating, nothing to do with lack of thought.
For its rating, Jason's initial death got pretty dark. Even without seeing the impact, just the sound of each hit along with his feet twitching in the shot made it uncomfortable to watch,
If that's the case than don't show blood on the ground. Just let people imagine the internal bleeding.

I'm glad you mentioned that, because I really hate that people think that scene is good. The Joker is able to kill those guards because they fucking stand there like lambs waiting to be slaughtered. You can't tell me that in the time it takes to break a glass, slice someone's throat, and take their gun, not one of FOUR OTHER PEOPLE would have shot him. The entire scene is basically DC masturbating itself.

to be fair, the comic book is much better, because it doesnt make it blatantly obvious who the red hood is right away (not to mention not long before Clayface was posing AS Jason to throw batman off).
For what its worth, this movie is still very entertaining and worth the watch. I personally would have knocked down a sin or two for Jason's brief talk about the Joker with batman. That was some powerful voice acting. And in the end, this is STILL a better movie than most "real action" DC movies of the past, dunno, ten years?

The comic book had the advantage of Jason Todd being dead for more than 10 years and not being in any comic (except as a memory). No reader knew it was Robin until it was revealed. The movie can't count on this advantage so it made the story easier.
Yeah. It would be much more difficult for the movie to set this one up properly. I do think they handled it well with the limitations they had though. All things considered its still a good watch, but I'd strongly recommend people read the comic book as well :)
That speech is honestly my favorite part of the movie. The voice acting there is incredible. The break in his voice when he gets to,”Because he took me away from you.” Gets me every time.
Another advantage of the comic was Jason being back from the dead had been done and revealed as fake in the comics less then a year before the comic did it for real.
So no one though DC would do the same reveal twice in such a short time.
And don't forget the Batman reply: "It would be too damn easy" , implying that the hardest thing to do is to be coherent with oneself and that the Joker is, in fact, the hardest villain he ever face, not because of his madness, but because he challenges the very thing that makes a hero, a hero.
To be honest, I forgot everything about this movie except that one line: "it would be too damn easy". It is a very concrete way to answer a really good emotional speech with a line that shows how hard is the inner fight in comparison to the exterior fight. I just find beautiful the fact that for Batman it is easy to kill someone than to be what he needs to be.

yeah, but arsenal and starfire were way more fun and interesting characters, where as in my opinion bizarro and artemis are just really boring and the dialogue is pretty shit, I still like to read it but it wasn't nearly as exiting for me as vol 1
The Bizzaro and Artemis Red Hood and the Outlaws is far far better than the one with starfire and arsenal. Much more interesting layered characters.
"You shattered his collar bone!" Every fight I've ever had in any of the Arkham series games just flashed before my eyes, even that mobile batman arkham game that took place before arkham city. Lord knows how many men I've left paralyzed from the neck down.

Jason's resurrection in the comic books was actually dumber, where apparently after Superboy prime literally punched a hole through reality it somehow cause Jason's to come back to life.
Almost as dumb as Darkseid shooting Batman with his Omega Beams, and instead of disintegrating him like it does with any other human it sends him back in time haha. Batman's plot armor is astounding.

The Sentret it sounds like he didn’t even read the comics...He asked why didn’t Jason kill Batman...At the start when he wanted to kill him(when he came back)he wanted him to suffer like he did,but after his anger wore out after years(while being trained with the Assaisins) he wanted him to kill Joker because that’s all he wanted to see

And the fact that they jump from absurd heights kinda ruins the suspension of disbelief.
And when they are in a bathroom with no door. I like to think Jason miscalculated and jumped through the wrong window and if Batman hadn’t bodied him through a wall. His plan wouldn’t have worked out so well.

Even though Hamill and Conroy don't do the voices (Greenwood and DiMaggio do good jobs while Ackles is fantastic), this is still my favorite animated Batman movie.
Ackles is a one trick pony, and considering Red Hood is basically Dean Winchester a character he's played for What? Twelve years? He better have been fantastic.

Phantasm is great but I still prefer this movie. This movie emphasizing how devoted Batman is and has to be to his no kill rule was very well done.
Yeah, it's weird to hear other voices besides Conroy and Hamill for Batman and Joker because I watched my brother play all the Batman Arkham games so yeah.
DiMaggio is an amazing Joker actually. I won't say he's better than Hamill, I will say he's different from Hamill's Joker in that he's more of a psychotic thug. His voice is actually how I imagine "The Criminal". If you know, you know.

Both Kevin and Mark have threaten "retirement." Multitude of times. But what it honestly comes down to is MONEY. Mark Hamill even said it after Arkham Asylum that he was done doing the Joker if he didn't get paid more the next time. Come Arkham City he got extra zeroes on his paycheck and voiced Joker again. For Killing Joke, Mark and Kevin both said that is the one thing they would always do no question. etc... Its been quite a few animated movies since either of them voiced those characters. They're doing Justice League Action but neither is much of a main character on that show.
