Joan Crawford was magnificent in this film! The final scene is one of the best in any film. A unique film like no other. Nicholas Ray should have gotten an Academy Award for his direction, which Americans couldn't appreciate, but Europeans could as the film was a favorite of the French people.
Orson Wells said that Mercedes McCambridge had the most perfect voice for radio. He also wanted her to play that part in Touch of Evil so bad he paid her way to where they were filming it. He even did her makeup for the movie. She plays a very despicable character in the movie
Forget the spoilers............if someone hasn't seen this unique film by now, all they can do is to see it again, and again and again! It is well worth it!
Mercedes MaCarmbridge was an alcoholic these years of her life (later attending Alcoholics Anonymous) and it seemed to help the roles she played both on radio, television and the movies. The end of her life was tragic for both McCambridge and her son but seemed to fit the characters she had played in this movie and her voice in "The Exorcist"..
Mercedes McCambridge had a strange career arc. This was a weird western and she starred in an awful western in 1965 called Run Home Slow with a soundtrack by Frank Zappa.

Always a pleasure to see Mr. Sterling Hayden! He was a better actor than he thought - and his books are great too.

Those square features, that look and gestures of unbalanced and her scenic strength make her the best female face in the history of cinema.
wonderfully done! the bold color palettes and high morality takes really explore why nicholas ray is such a well regarded auteur
My favourite western of all time. ❤️
I luv JC's basic black outfit with bright bandanna.
Great film.
No one can take a slug like the sheriff FRANK FURGERSON
