This a great scene, one of my favorite . Ray deserves a lot of credit for how he put this together . But way Crawford's strength and power backed down that mob, is fabulous !
Mar.23: Happy birthday and RIP Actress Joan Crawford; Academy Award winner, Golden Globe Award, Cecil B. DeMille Award (1904-1977) Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, Passthejointsplease. Blessings
This is one of my favorite JC movies. The contempt/jealousy/rage that Mercedes McCambridge and Joan Crawford had for one another was a magical touch for this movie. Drinking ain't a pretty sight!!!
Fantastic scene. Probably also a real lesson in American History when the railroads started appearing. As good actresses as Joan and Mercedes were, I guess they didn't have to stretch their craft too much. They disliked each other off screen as well. Great movie from beginning to end.
One of my favorite scenes from Johnny Guitar... Joan Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge were excellent. Joan: down there I sell whiskey and cards all you can buy up these stairs is a bullet in the head. Me: I'll take a whiskey please 😅
So what are you saying Wyatt? I agree with Elmer Fudd. Joan did many great and generous things for people. She might not have won mother of the year, but she was more than a decent person. I'm sure she had good reason to do what she did. I hear way more good about Joan than bad. People love to hang onto the bad. don't they?
this was one of the most explosive sets in H'wood history---Crawford hated McCambridge and it shows on screen. Joan tore through Mercede's wardrobe making sure she didn't upstage her own glamourous one.
my mom went to sedona from phoenix to interview the cast-when she got there joan refused and wanted ny mom tocome back my mom refused and wrote up what happened-joan threw mercedes clothes out in the middle of the highway because the cast and crew applauded her after finishing a scene my mom never did go back to interview her
The only thing that would have made this movie better is if, instead of shooting McCambridge in the end, she and Crawford had gotten into a fistfight ending with the two of them in each other's arms. And then, in horror, McCambridge runs off and shoots herself in the head. No, wait. That's "The Children's Hour."
With its anti-Vulture Capitalist, pro-Socialist, borderline Feminist theme, this movie wouldn't have been made by a studio like MGM! The actual screenwriter was BEN MADDOW who had been blacklisted! Maddow also wrote another controversial script (one that was sympathetic toward Native Americans) for the Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn film, "The Unforgiven".
Sorry to say this to you but this movie now is a classic for something (acting JOAN AND MERCEDES 👏 so Sterling and the boy, script, direction by Nicholas Ray, ®technicolor visual, amazing western lead by two woman.. and and)
A totally underated movie... now such a cult classic. Love this.
Undervalued at the premiere. But over time it is considered one of the best movies of all time.

I have never seen this scene and WOW, is Crawford good in this !!

God - I LOVE Crawford so much
Get 'em, Joan.

I think Crawford loved to mix it up with her female costars to keep the tension going. It made for a better film, and it was fun for her.
More like Mc Carthyist times
@@janestub ; Bullshit analogy.
Great dialogues
Almost a poetry
"you can't kill us all"
"just two of you shall do"
Amo este filme

That's for Vienna to decide.

"You're going to see a whole new town right where you're standing; a town you DON'T own!!!" 😂😂😂😂
I like this movie with Alan Ladd. I'm 57
Why did they hate each other? The tension worked so well in this film.
Agree, there´s lesbian tension here....
Mercedes isn't in love with Johnny Guitar, that's the whole trick to this film. She's in love with Joan.
If Umberto Ecco and Roland Barthes ever made a Western, it would have been this one.

Your mothers name?
"Im going to kill you." - "I know."
Best lesbian movie scene ever.
LE film. Je me passe des passages....
Lie to me.....
"What's your real reason Emma?"...................Let Emma say it

Savage.

Good for him.
i think you got it a little twisted.
Joan Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge played two of the butchiest broads ever filmed, in this movie. Mercedes hated Joan in real life too.
this movie is like a car wreck---just try and look away!!
how much time do you have?!
Probably because McCambridge wouldn't satisfy Crawford's lusty desires.
Interesting...scene. FYI I see NO lesbian tension here.
That was the worst acting ever !
We disagree.
GTFO. Joan is the QUEEN, sorry.
It's called classic acting.

Blasphemy
