This short NASA film gives viewers a look at the 1966 space mission of Gemini XI, which featured astronauts Charles “Pete” Conrad Jr. and Richard F. Gordon Jr. The film begins with an Atlas-Agena target vehicle being moved into place at a launch pad. Footage shows the Atlas rockets firing and the Agena taking off. Nearby, the Gemini XI spacecraft sits on Pad 19 waiting to launch. Viewers see Conrad and Gordon waiting for liftoff. Men work in the control room of the mission (01:30). Gemini XI lifts off for an “M=1 Rendezvous.” Gemini XI flies through the sky. There is a still shot of Gemini XI in orbit (02:43), followed by a photograph of Command Pilot Conrad. A man in NASA’s control room gives the OK for docking with the Agena (03:37). An on-board camera records the docking of Gemini XI with Agena. Pilot Gordon straddles the spacecraft nose during orbit (05:02). He maneuvers on the spacecraft, talking with command center. He removes a tether from the Agena during an extra-vehicular activity (EVA). There is a shot of the horizon with cars and a sunset somewhere on Earth (07:44), then the film cuts to footage of what appears to be the Sun coming into view of Gemini XI. The crew of Gemini XI sets an altitude record, and photos show the view of Earth from that altitude (09:07). A monitor shows the spacecraft in orbit. This is followed by more shots of Gemini XI in space, with photos of Earth shot from an open hatch during another EVA. Gemini XI undocks from Agena (10:58). Footage shows the tether connecting the two spacecraft. At the command center, men work on the logistics for a second rendezvous between Gemini XI and Agena. There is a good panning shot of inside the control room. Two Sikorsky Sea King helicopters of the Navy’s Helicopter Squadron HS-3 take off from USS Guam (Iwo Jima-class amphibious assault ship) to recover Gemini XI (13:35). Gemini XI parachutes to the ocean, and a helicopter flies over the capsule. The crew are hoisted aboard the helicopter. Gordan and Conrad climb out of the helicopter aboard the USS Guam (15:00), and the two men pose for photographs. Gemini XI is hoisted out of the water and onto the assault ship (15:50), concluding the film.
Gemini 11 (officially Gemini XI) was the ninth crewed spaceflight mission of NASA's Project Gemini, which flew from September 12 to 15, 1966. It was the 17th crewed American flight and the 25th spaceflight to that time (includes X-15 flights over 100 kilometers (54 nmi)). Astronauts Charles "Pete" Conrad Jr. and Richard F. Gordon Jr. performed the first-ever direct-ascent (first orbit) rendezvous with an Agena Target Vehicle, docking with it 1 hour 34 minutes after launch; used the Agena rocket engine to achieve a world-record high-apogee Earth orbit; and created a small amount of artificial gravity by spinning the two spacecraft connected by a tether. Gordon also performed two extra-vehicular activities for a total of 2 hours 41 minutes.

Great stuff...you can see Gordon struggling to maneuver without handholds or foot restraints. Aldrin’s EVA was better planned.

i really appreciate what the team at PF are doing. These are some of my favorite videos on YT. I do have a question - can PF claim ownership of government/public created content ?

      Good question, Ask Periscope 🤔

Theoretically, if another film studio/repository had their own copy for exhibition, there's nothing to really stop them, since it's more-than-likely public domain and also being published for educational purposes. It'd only be an issue if someone was using PF's restored copy without permission, hence the burnt-in timecode.

This is an old post, but I’ll toss in my 2 cents anyway. No, PF does not own these original videos. However, they can indeed charge a fee for their effort to convert video format and then post these videos on youbtube. That said, anyone is more than welcome to spend time, purchase hardware/software to do the same thing. When you convert and then make available thousands of videos, I’m betting that at some point you will be looking to charge a fee for a clean copy as payback for your efforts. The time code is nothing more than their way of protecting their hard work from being copied. Given the old format of these NASA films/videos and the lack of old video projection hardware, I’d say we are lucky to be able to watch these videos at all. The time code is no big deal considering all details.

I can’t believe how much stuff we did in orbit and I knew nothing about this growing up in the 70’s and 80’s….just a rumor of moon landings and Skylab and eventually the Shuttle ..
Russia, too, with all their Moon Roving etc

@Bobb Grimley yup just a few miles to the library with a backpack, and the right questions, is all it would have taken…

Great film but that running time clock is pretty damn annoying.

Here's the issue: Tens of thousands of films similar to this one have been lost forever -- destroyed -- and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like these online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes.
In the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous UA-cam users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content! We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to spend precious time dealing with policing thievery -- and not what we devoted ourselves to do.

    LOL The laughs keep coming!
The astronot is tired and out of breath (as he said several times) as if he were hanging from an uncomfortable harness pulling him from the jock strap more than the shoulders. Those rigs are so advanced now, Sandra Bullock had no trouble shooting her movie in one for months.

It was sounding rather uncomfortable with sweat in his eyes, hot and worked up due to the difficulties of trying to maneuver without grounding.

The amount of people who believe this crap is mind blowing. Most people believe every single thing they are told
