The contrast between this and your Canaries passage (the first long haul) is incredible. You might not notice the difference in your demeanor but you're both so very confident now, I dare say you're beginning to _enjoy_ it!
Great job, great passage. Thank you for allowing me to join your adventure. Remember to wear your sunscreen! Not doing so in early life took me away from my 25 + yrs sailing adventures myself. 2 skin cancers, breast cancer, and am now on 9th round of surgeries, followed by....NO, NOT by following seas, but rather chemo. But....No worries, I'll kick ass on this also. I OH SO enjoyed your this part of your adventure. Look forward to more! This OH so helps me keep in the Carpe Diem mode, reminding me....I'll be back on the water again, sooner rather than later. Glad I found your site. Highest regards. Ty, Ty, Ty again. Be safe
CHEERS guys youre a grate team of sailors you got nothing to worry about youre well prepaired youre got everything you need but most of all the experience well done god bless cheers
OK guys, pro tip, when you know you have a Fish on that’s going to steal all of your line and you will not be able to boat it with the rod you have it hooked on; you have two options. 1. Drop sail and Motor towards the fish. 2. Or firmly grasp of the spool of line while there are still several wraps around the spool and break the line at the leader instead of at the reel. Loss of lure but you get to keep your line. Best of luck! Smooth sailing!
Fantastic tip, thank you! We have just replaced most of our fishing gear so hopefully we don't have any more situations like this. We were ignorant going into the whole fishing thing and feel really bad about the fish we hooked but lost with gear still attached to them. We've gone to a heavier line, with smaller lures, and so far its working well. No more gear has been lost, and we're catching fish that are a manageable size.
Awesome !!!! I'm so Happy for you guy's, I was in Awww Just like you the first time I made the crossing leaving Cabo San Lucas. I was even more Blown away when we reached Nuku Hiva Just Like you, Asher the look on your face when you said it was beautiful was priceless..... On my trip the Captain was from New Zealand. a Kiwi the best sailors in the world ....Enjoy the rest of the trip guy's.....any hint's to wear you might go from there....
It was a pretty incredible place to arrive thats for sure. At the moment we are in Fakarava in the Tuamotus and it is mind-blowing. Going to be a difficult one to leave!
I started watching your videos with this one and was inspired not just by your journey but by your couple dynamic, enthusiasm and perspective. I went back through all the videos in order and now find myself watching this again with fresh eyes -- knowing what you have gone through to get to this point. Asher has become an excellent skipper and Dani you bring a level of reflection that goes beyond just commenting on your trip and sailing. I must admit I will be a little sad when your passage is over. Although the ocean adventure is coming to an end, I hope the story does not. I look forward to you building your home, getting married and buying a bigger boat -- then setting off on more adventures on the high seas. Now I am off to become a Patreon and peruse the local ads for a sailboat. Congratulations on your engagement and as you head back to New Zealand may you have fair winds and following seas.
Very impressive. Your guys made that look so easy and fun compared to others. Great couple dynamic as well. Have not seen a passage charted around currents rather than wind. Quite interesting. Well done!
I woke this morning on board SV Wahine in Tokyo Bay and watched this and not only I enjoyed it but was touched and moved. Loved the pics of `Florence` the hydrovane as I have also recently installed `Skylie ll` also a hydrovane and we are training for our own pacific crossing in a few months time ' Tokyo to Vancouver` Good luck and enjoy your tie in the Marquesas
When you hook a fish let out the sheets immediately given your undersized fishing gear and tackle. You don’t need a rod. You need 100 lb test tied to the stern rail and a pair of gloves.
Never underestimate having a way to put a outboard motor on a boat, even a good trick in a tight dock if you need alot of control without having thrusters.
Our previous boat was one exactly like yours. Great Boat and nice to see what you are doing. We will be following your steps next March. Fair winds. Ipanema.
New sub, congrats on your passage! You must have had your heart stop when you discovered the salt water, glad it was minimal. I’ll need to go back and binge the rest of your videos!
Loving your adventures. Taking a special interest - lived in Kerikeri and worked at the High School, so knew Imogen and Joanna. Rosie F worked .in our pharmacy - and we bought Druiana when Andrew sold her. And that’s not all - Dani - Kerry Wright is my husbands cousin. I just talked to him and told him how much I’m enjoying your videos - sad he ‘s not up with modern technology ! Safe sailing.
Wow! That is a crazy amount of connections to us! I think Mum also tried to show Grandad an episode or two but he didnt quite get it. Glad you're enjoying our voyage home!
Congratulations! Your sharing is very inspiring and your editing is great! I feel like I was there with you (a little bit). I used to live in Curacao, now in Bali. Enjoy the rest of your journey!
Absolutely love your videos, and this is my first UA-cam comment ever. Additionally, just signed up to help support you guys with a monthly patron donation. Keep it up, and live the dream! I hope you both find nothing, but safe travels, great people, and calm relaxing waters. Cheers!
Cheers Clinton! Glad you’re enjoying our episodes, there’s a couple of really good ones coming up (if I do say so myself) 😉 Thank you so much for your support on Patreon! So Awesome!
Sailing Bacchus Home , I have my sailboat here in Jacksonville, Florida where I live. I’m hoping to head to the Bahamas this late October November. I’m a relatively new Sailor as well with an old 40 foot Hunter as my first boat. I was impressed that you were sailing a Beneteau across the oceans! Many have told me boats like these are production and really only coastal cruisers. You have proved them wrong!
I'v had myself convinced that I need a full keel, double ended, 30+ comfort ratio, 46' boat to take me across the ocean and here you guys are doing it in a 36', 19.4 comfort ratio, Beneteau, at a fraction of the cost, now I have no idea what I need.
I just found your chanel. Watched this and now back to beginning. Did u do an episode on finding, buying and upgrading the. Oat to ready it for the voyage? Looks like solar, bimini, new sails were some upgrades. Will u be out of the pacific before cyclone season?
Hey Michael, we didn't do an episode on finding the boat but we did do an episode recently which was a tour of the boat and showed the upgrades we had done. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/m_n231xtyv8/v-deo.html
Whats your thoughts of the 36 bene for ocean passages and liveaboard? What do you like about it and what dont you like? What would you say are the first upgrades you would do having some experience with it now?
G'day guys. Gee it's great to hear our accent again. I've just discovered your channel. Watched 5 mins of it and immediately subbed. Then carried on watching. So help me out. I'm going to have to binge watch. How long have you had your channel up and running.? I'm in Murchison for now. It's wet and forecast for more rain. So plenty of free time to catchup. All the best. Take care and stay safe. Cheers.
We use PredictWind for the weather (which is a paid service), and SailDocs (free) for the ocean current forecasts. SailDocs get the forecast from NOAA, then package it into a small GRIB file suitable for download at sea. We access all this using an Iridium Go satellite connection.
Whoa! I was getting used to you being in the Caribbean and then under Covid lockdown in Curacao and Panama. But now suddenly you are in Nuku Hiva! Where did the time go!? :-)
@@sailingbacchushome944 It was fun to follow your adventure but you being so close to home in New Zealand again, I must click the unsubscribe button now. No footage you have of what there is to see between Nuku Hiva and New Zealand is of interest to me. Best wishes to you!
We can’t imagine sailing without the Hydrovane now, she performs amazingly every time (as long as there is wind) the trickiest point of sail is on a beam reach but she can still handle it. Would highly recommend!
We have an Iridium Go (sat phone) which gives us very basic and slow internet. Just enough to download a weather forecast or send an email (text only). It's a pretty awesome piece of kit and has made understanding the weather a whole lot easier for us than the sailors before us who didn't have this technology. That said, we meet many sailors who don't have a sat phone and just sail to the wind :)
Returning to watch one of my favourite sailing channels. It’s still so good and informative.
The contrast between this and your Canaries passage (the first long haul) is incredible. You might not notice the difference in your demeanor but you're both so very confident now, I dare say you're beginning to _enjoy_ it!
At 80 years young you guys make me younger. Sold my 18’ day sailboat last summer
and great to continue sailing on your boat👍🌿
Glad we can keep you sailing John!
Just found your channel and have been binge watching. Keeping me positive whilst working from home. What a journey. I am inspired.

Congratulations on the crossing. Well done. As a fellow Beneteau 361 sailor, it is nice to see someone taking one across the world!
Thank you! She's a good little boat!
I love her attitude.
Agree, she seems so positive.
Congrats on your adventure and sharing it so brilliantly with us. Thanks
Our pleasure, thank you!

Great showing the crossing in one episode. Glad you made it safely.
Haha, lots of editing was required!

Sounds like Murray from FOTC. I'm half expecting him to say "We're trying to chart a course, aren't we Jermaine?"
that was the only real trouble with that model the slamming in a head sea , Yous are really doing good - Fair winds (rums good any time )

I really enjoyed your video and a 36 foot sailboat I am also looking at a 36 foot S2 sloop and would to make that passage sail safe

Ever consider jibing more in rolling seas, to balance out the boat more?
That was a long leg for you two. The fish looked so tasty. I'm going to cook some tuna steaks tonight in your honor. Maybe I'll have some rum too ;)
Whats your thoughts of the 36 bene for ocean passages and liveaboard? What do you like about it and what dont you like? What would you say are the first upgrades you would do having some experience with it now?

Cool trip. I want to learn how to sail and follow you both around the world.
I guess you proved to all those blue water yacht sailors that you can easily do it in a production boat.
fish and chocolate chips? sign me up
Alejandro yum yum!
Have you tried headsail only to move the center of effort forward?
Something did happen when you crossed the equator. Flush the toilet.
This is the boat I am looking at. Just got laid off and Divorced, seems like a good time to do that around the world dream.
Do it!
Heck yea!
Do you calculate the currents with navionics? Grtz from Netherlands
Tuna is super delicious

do you have fin keel or winged ?
Fin 👍🏼
not bad for what, 3hp ?

Curious about how the Hydrovane performed, Would you choose it again? Was it able to get clear wind with the solar panels?
