Life Mid-Ocean | SAILING Across the Indian Ocean Ep.108

- This is why we put up with the storms and calms. Out of sight of land, sailing across an ocean can be a magical experience. I used to wonder what it felt like to be surrounded by nothing but the vast ocean and sky, at the mercy of the weather, with limited supplies, no internet, no pressures of modern life and just one other person to talk to. The part of the passage where we are furthermost from land is our most treasured, our bodies have had the opportunity to adjust, our energy levels are back and the total lack of distractions from where we are and what we are doing, places a giant magnifying glass on our emotions.
After over a week at sea we have finally reached the steady trade winds. Finally we can turn the bow west towards the tropical Seychelles islands. With the steadier winds we enjoy some fantastic sailing and catching fresh fish for dinner.
We have been sailing around the world for over 5 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

Live that dream, after, when you are old like me, those memories are so precious!
Video after video the thing that stands out most is Amy's smile.
No pressure Amy ;-)😀
The thumbnail worked perfectly. 👍
Very nice guys, no bragging and no pretentious stories, keep it going.
8:13 to 14:00 is just pure UA-cam magic
I watch your video's in the morning before I get out of bed and in the evening before sleep in the hopes I get on my own boat in my dreams. It works, but I keep sailing into some horrific sea's. I've even had a mayday.
I would much rather be with you guys than in that mess my brain calls sailing.
You can't have bad weather without good weather.
I say it every time Matt and Amy... I really look forward to your channel releases. Your presentation style and affable nature makes for compelling viewing. Keep safe. John
100% mate, theres something so loveable about these two humans :-)
Their appreciation of the simple pleasures excites me.
Agreed!
I really appreciate your mutual respect and care for one another. Not all show their honour of one another as you both do, and for me, especially Matt’s honour of Amy.
Matt , Amy: I follow 4 or 5 sailing blogs and think that you two are the kindest, gentlest bloging couple among the group.
100% mate, theres something so loveable about these two humans. (thats twice I have replied same comment to
In my house, we've literally been saying every day, "Gosh, I hope Matt & Amy are OK crossing the Indian Ocean!"
I think you can safely say that they made it since you can view their videos. I'm pretty sure the can't upload videos from the middle of the Indian ocean, miles from anywhere. I should imagine they are now in the Seychelles.
Me too
😊 yeah, these videos are huge still going over low bandwidth (Iridium) satellites. However in the near future, high speed sstellite up&down bandwidth will be available "all over", eg from SpaceX. And as they also confirm, folks on monohulls do not even edit videos underway, it makes them far too seasick. Those on Cats and Trihulls can edit, however.
I stalked them on boat tracker to check lol
@@welovecricket9110 and? Where are they?
What an awesome video to cheer up the Friday evening! The higlight of my week :) Cheers!!
Beautifully shot with wonderful Voice over ! Can't wait to see the next episode !
One of the best sailing videos I have ever seen. Tx
love watching you two and cant wait till my family of five do what you are doing
Great fish... Carry on life is wanderful without crowd.. living the high sea
I live vicariously through you
Matt and Amy - I would have to think Amy's commentary on the joy of open ocean sailing captures it perfectly - long hauls - when you settle down are addictive in the very best possible way. So great to hear the delight in your voice (s) thankyou.
Outstanding video.
I really enjoyed the photography and commentary. Very well done. I look forward to the next video.
Thank you.
Awesome as always! :)
Love so much the positive vibes from both of you! I plan on leaving life on land behind forever in 3 years! Who knows maybe our sails shall cross paths! Cheers
Beautiful food on the Indian Ocean!

Enjoy your trip, mask on . Can not wait for the next post. Take care.
Well it finally happened to me. I have heard for years that people somehow become unsubscribed. Good thing I follow you guys on IG. It occurred to me I had not watched you for a bit usually on the weekend. I checked sure enough I was not subscribed. Fixed that pretty quick. Remember us regular subscribers that got you enough momentum to get Patreon and other goodies. We tend to get forgotten.Been here since the beginning.
Amy is such a great hand. You two are like a left and a right hand; You work in such a complimentary of way together. What a life you are having.

Your comments about sailing are truly beautiful Amy. As a former sailor living on my ketch for 6 months of the year I fully embrace all you have said.
Oh my goodness! This is probably one of the best videos I have seen in a while, if not the best, that describes the beauty of sailing to freedom. You guys are amazing. 👍👍👍👍

terrific video. thank you
Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
That is ocean sailing at its best! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Awesomeness 🌟
You absolutely nailed it. A beautiful sailing video.
You’re doing well with the Mahi-Mahi. I’ve had luck down the NW African coast but after early success every lure either came back in crushed, sliced up or simply didn’t come back. Even twinned steel trace came back as frayed ends. Clearly something bit and with sharp teeth taking anything that took the lure, often taking the lure as well. Might as well have tipped all the lures over the side for the success! And the Bobbies were fun. I remember one trip coming down from Norway just behind a big storm that had come out of the Baltic and us ‘collecting’ dozens of small exhausted birds, blown out to sea. Sadly all died even if they found secure shelter. Clearly exhausted by the storm. Makes you wonder how many must go the same way all the time
Vinegar, the sailors standby, is a great cleaning agent. I used it in the Queensland tropics for cleaning off mold. It is the best solution for mold prevention, antiseptic, and fungal treatment. It also cleans brass and other materials.Cheers and beers
All the battling through the doldrums to reach the most perfect sailing conditions the trades is well worth it. Listening to you both share your thoughts & feelings while out at sea makes me long for the ocean. Currently we’re experiencing another hard lockdown here in Australia. Your vids are a much needed and welcomed respite. Thank you Matt & Amy for taking me along for the ride. 🙏🏻
Yes! I get so excited when I see one of their videos. It's like a mini-vacation. And they've really earned that sense of freedom after so long stuck in Indonesia.
Here in the US we heard Australia's very difficult with high fines. Here the government want the same lockdown for remainder of the year. Wished I was on my sailboat. Canada will not allow US citizens to use Canadian waters but the US allows Canadians here.
Great video. Be safe
My takeaway is how happy, contented, inspired, positive and supportive you are towards each other and how appreciative you appear for this amazing experience. Safe passage, young couple...
So jealous looks so beautiful there I like to get the recipe for that looked so good made me hungry 35 ft Choley. sailboat I'll be up the map to a much-needed repairs all day you kids have fun I will be out there next
I can't think of a better description of an ocean passage! Excellent video in every way! Thank you!
Fabulous. So relaxing watching you guys.
Just brilliant, looking forward to the heavy weather sat in my armchair. I’m old now but have sailed the oceans all my life with sail and power.
Just come across this great video journey I can watch from the warm safe comfort of my cosy armchair . Hats off to this brave adventurous happy couple 🥰
Just discovered your videos. They are all great with so much information about sails, sail settings, your daily routines and difficult experiences etc. Having been the sailing Captain of Sri Lanka for 5 years in the 1970's sailing 15ft racing boats I truly appreciate your videos.
Poetic
This what sailings all about ready for the long haul sailing of the ocean WOW have a cracking and safe trip
I enjoy watching this every week thank you
Fantastic
Congrats on the fish it was a nice one
Amy, Matt thank you for your video.
## You are the best assets to your country. Young couple, subjects to Queen Elizabeth, you make your country famous.
### Being together for 5 years and making your love of a couple of a man and a woman growing day by day; that is now an immense thing.
#### Transmitting to a guy, watching you on an old smartphone the magic of treasuring the sail across the Indian Ocean, that is fantastic achievement.
Among your many other virtues, you are great artists. I am impressed.
Thank you for sharing your experience from the voyage across the seas; subtile presentation of your lows, or ups with me and many of your friends around the world.
Hope you will find your love much stronger, greater when you walk on your home soil again.
God bless you!
Warm Greetings from Bobcaygeon Ontario Canada
White vinegar for cleaning mould works well, also helps prevent regrow and it’s cheap to buy.
