Life Mid-Ocean | SAILING Across the Indian Ocean Ep.108

- This is why we put up with the storms and calms. Out of sight of land, sailing across an ocean can be a magical experience. I used to wonder what it felt like to be surrounded by nothing but the vast ocean and sky, at the mercy of the weather, with limited supplies, no internet, no pressures of modern life and just one other person to talk to. The part of the passage where we are furthermost from land is our most treasured, our bodies have had the opportunity to adjust, our energy levels are back and the total lack of distractions from where we are and what we are doing, places a giant magnifying glass on our emotions.
After over a week at sea we have finally reached the steady trade winds. Finally we can turn the bow west towards the tropical Seychelles islands. With the steadier winds we enjoy some fantastic sailing and catching fresh fish for dinner.
We have been sailing around the world for over 5 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

Live that dream, after, when you are old like me, those memories are so precious!
Video after video the thing that stands out most is Amy's smile.
No pressure Amy ;-)😀
8:13 to 14:00 is just pure UA-cam magic
Matt , Amy: I follow 4 or 5 sailing blogs and think that you two are the kindest, gentlest bloging couple among the group.
100% mate, theres something so loveable about these two humans. (thats twice I have replied same comment to
I say it every time Matt and Amy... I really look forward to your channel releases. Your presentation style and affable nature makes for compelling viewing. Keep safe. John
100% mate, theres something so loveable about these two humans :-)
Their appreciation of the simple pleasures excites me.
Agreed!
Very nice guys, no bragging and no pretentious stories, keep it going.
I really appreciate your mutual respect and care for one another. Not all show their honour of one another as you both do, and for me, especially Matt’s honour of Amy.
Your comments about sailing are truly beautiful Amy. As a former sailor living on my ketch for 6 months of the year I fully embrace all you have said.
I watch your video's in the morning before I get out of bed and in the evening before sleep in the hopes I get on my own boat in my dreams. It works, but I keep sailing into some horrific sea's. I've even had a mayday.
I would much rather be with you guys than in that mess my brain calls sailing.
You two are on the top 5 sailing couples around the world. Safety first. From Puerto Rico.
Matt and Amy - I would have to think Amy's commentary on the joy of open ocean sailing captures it perfectly - long hauls - when you settle down are addictive in the very best possible way. So great to hear the delight in your voice (s) thankyou.
Beautifully shot with wonderful Voice over ! Can't wait to see the next episode !
Amy is such a great hand. You two are like a left and a right hand; You work in such a complimentary of way together. What a life you are having.
What an awesome video to cheer up the Friday evening! The higlight of my week :) Cheers!!
One of a very few sailing channels where SAILING is the main focus. Matt and Amy are the real deal!
I also love Amy's smile 😃
One of the best sailing videos I have ever seen. Tx
Well it finally happened to me. I have heard for years that people somehow become unsubscribed. Good thing I follow you guys on IG. It occurred to me I had not watched you for a bit usually on the weekend. I checked sure enough I was not subscribed. Fixed that pretty quick. Remember us regular subscribers that got you enough momentum to get Patreon and other goodies. We tend to get forgotten.Been here since the beginning.
That is ocean sailing at its best! Thanks for sharing it with us!
You two are almost like different people, you seem so much happier.
I was noticing the same thing!
As a disabled man who used to love sailing, racing and extreme windsurfing, I really love being able to "share" your fantastic adventure. I'm sure you are giving a great many people pleasure during this tough time, thank you!!
You are so brave. I am in awe! Thank you for sharing your lives
If ever you dream of sailing around the world, this is it. Love it!
One of your best yet, thanks for taking us with you!

Love so much the positive vibes from both of you! I plan on leaving life on land behind forever in 3 years! Who knows maybe our sails shall cross paths! Cheers
Awesome as always! :)
Great stuff, conveys a real sense of being out on the open ocean. That pasta bake looked so good I started salivating. You're one hell of a resourceful cook, Amy!
Finally an update! Rooting for you. (was a bit worried tbh)
Just come across this great video journey I can watch from the warm safe comfort of my cosy armchair . Hats off to this brave adventurous happy couple 🥰

Amy, Matt thank you for your video.
## You are the best assets to your country. Young couple, subjects to Queen Elizabeth, you make your country famous.
### Being together for 5 years and making your love of a couple of a man and a woman growing day by day; that is now an immense thing.
#### Transmitting to a guy, watching you on an old smartphone the magic of treasuring the sail across the Indian Ocean, that is fantastic achievement.
Among your many other virtues, you are great artists. I am impressed.
Thank you for sharing your experience from the voyage across the seas; subtile presentation of your lows, or ups with me and many of your friends around the world.
Hope you will find your love much stronger, greater when you walk on your home soil again.
God bless you!
Another great video - thank you!
Great to see you enjoy some long awaited tradewind sailing.
Outstanding video.
I really enjoyed the photography and commentary. Very well done. I look forward to the next video.
Thank you.
First time view. Your in the Indian Ocean. Thanks for your Channel. I'll stay with you!
Just discovered your videos. They are all great with so much information about sails, sail settings, your daily routines and difficult experiences etc. Having been the sailing Captain of Sri Lanka for 5 years in the 1970's sailing 15ft racing boats I truly appreciate your videos.
Hi matt, Amy nick to see that ya'll injoying your adventures crossing the indian ocean, a little tip for the mold that's accusing inside your boat try using a little vintage, soap combo it seems to do the trick, great to see your making use of your fishing line keep having fun, happy sailing ⛵😉
Awesome video, I can't wait to get out there!
This what sailings all about ready for the long haul sailing of the ocean WOW have a cracking and safe trip
I enjoy watching this every week thank you
takes guts and determination to take on this trip. always thinking of you both.
Hats off Amy. That pasta bake looked stunning and cooked at sea in a rolling boat. I know people who profess to be great cooks and wouldnt be able to come up with that in a top end kicthen
Fair to say, I think, that’s your best video ever.
Oh my goodness! This is probably one of the best videos I have seen in a while, if not the best, that describes the beauty of sailing to freedom. You guys are amazing. 👍👍👍👍
Great fish... Carry on life is wanderful without crowd.. living the high sea
Glad to see you doing much better and having fun.
Hi from Texas! Enjoy your videos, been watching for years.
Hard to believe it’s been 5 years…but the last year in a half has felt like 10 years! Happy for you catching the wind! Cheers 🥂
Greeeaaatttt sailing channel
Wondeful and realistic info
My favourite sailing channel by far
Will share
You absolutely nailed it. A beautiful sailing video.
Hi guys, just started following your blog. I was born there on an island call PRASLIN, I left in 1980 to migrate to Australia .BAY ST ANNE has the jetty and anchorage for your boat, visit GRAND ANSE, where i came from , very laid back. Enjoy your trip, mask on . Can not wait for the next post. Take care.
Y'all do a great job of narrating your adventures. That's half the fun. Mahi Mahi makes great sushi right after being caught. Love to watch you sail.
Good job with the video making. I enjoy watching it. Thanks 😊
We love your videos. So informative and real. Thanks for sharing your journey!!
Sailing at its finest! Stay safe guys and thank you for taking us along with you on your journey.
Beautiful food on the Indian Ocean!
Great video. So Interesting to see you ocean crossing. That some amazing cooking.
So glad you are doing well and that you are half way across. cheers. x
Brilliant, loved every minute.
You’re doing well with the Mahi-Mahi. I’ve had luck down the NW African coast but after early success every lure either came back in crushed, sliced up or simply didn’t come back. Even twinned steel trace came back as frayed ends. Clearly something bit and with sharp teeth taking anything that took the lure, often taking the lure as well. Might as well have tipped all the lures over the side for the success! And the Bobbies were fun. I remember one trip coming down from Norway just behind a big storm that had come out of the Baltic and us ‘collecting’ dozens of small exhausted birds, blown out to sea. Sadly all died even if they found secure shelter. Clearly exhausted by the storm. Makes you wonder how many must go the same way all the time
Glad you got to the trade winds ok
Brilliant...!! Glade you had good weather and winds this week, that’s a big help😎👍✅
Another cracking video guys 👌 great watch happy sailing & stay safe
Matt and Amy Following your vlogs since I subscribed. Stay safe and fair winds
Yet another great video, thank you for sharing your journey! 😀
Vinegar, the sailors standby, is a great cleaning agent. I used it in the Queensland tropics for cleaning off mold. It is the best solution for mold prevention, antiseptic, and fungal treatment. It also cleans brass and other materials.Cheers and beers
The thumbnail worked perfectly. 👍
Go you sweet things. Top vid again, I'm so envious.
My takeaway is how happy, contented, inspired, positive and supportive you are towards each other and how appreciative you appear for this amazing experience. Safe passage, young couple...
I live vicariously through you
All the battling through the doldrums to reach the most perfect sailing conditions the trades is well worth it. Listening to you both share your thoughts & feelings while out at sea makes me long for the ocean. Currently we’re experiencing another hard lockdown here in Australia. Your vids are a much needed and welcomed respite. Thank you Matt & Amy for taking me along for the ride. 🙏🏻
Yes! I get so excited when I see one of their videos. It's like a mini-vacation. And they've really earned that sense of freedom after so long stuck in Indonesia.
Here in the US we heard Australia's very difficult with high fines. Here the government want the same lockdown for remainder of the year. Wished I was on my sailboat. Canada will not allow US citizens to use Canadian waters but the US allows Canadians here.
Thanks for another great video.
It"s wonderful to sail oceans like you are doing, It has been always my dream. For me, it was impossible to fulfill my dreams for many reasons. As a substitute, I am following virtually by the means of your video your passage with great pleasure and a little bit of jealousy. Happy sailing!
Your description of cooking was great. I call it "chasing compost" when you're constantly cooking up the veggies that are about to go off.
Great update thank you both! Amy's profound words at 12:10 says it all.
Great footage! So glad you reached the trades and get some easier cruising, must be short of beer by now 🍷rum punch in the sechelles xx
Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
Rreally well done, great job on the music and footage.
Thank you, this is beautiful .....Pura Vida, Stay Safe, In Light, H
I love your content. Absolutely authentic!
That Pasta Bake looked delicious!
Just subbed, binge-watching your Indonesia-to-now vids. Fantastic job communicating your journey! I love seeing birds using your boat for a bit of rest. One thing you can do to help them out is to not shine lights at them, better to let them be, not even poke your heads nearby as this alarms them very much. Typically, even gazing at a bird heightens their stress and vigilance (imagine being eyed within reach by two huge predators showing their teeth). Better to just give a glance or look out the corner of your eyes, and otherwise pay them no mind except know you are providing some welcome relief.
Yaaaaaaay! Finally the trades and you very much have earned it and deserve it. And I literally mean FAIR WINDS!
Hello, I have been following your adventures and your ideal lifestyle for more than two years, and this is my first comment, since then I dream of sailing one day, you are a great couple, congratulations and thank you for the incredible videos !!
Hi Jose, If you really want to do it then it is possible to live your dream, this started out as a dream for us, just like you. Through these videos we hope to inspire others to live their dreams too. Go for it. Best of luck M&A
Praying for a safe sailing. God bless you.
Fabulous. So relaxing watching you guys.
Well done again guys
Thank you for the wild ride/sail through the Indian Ocean. Video and storytelling are wonderful!👍
Great teamwork. Thank you.
Another great video, thank you, I really enjoy your enthusiasm for open ocean sailing, hope the wind keeps up for you.
I love your channel. I found it about two months ago and almost caught up to date. Careful with those flopping Mahi's and that knife though! I was worried you would get that knife jabbed into your foot! Keep up the great videos!
Just found the channel. Subscribed and like because serious thoughtful sailors like these certainly earned respect. Kudos
You guys are awesome, enjoy every episode you post.
I fell so far behind. But I’m binging my way through your adventure again. Loving it. I’m rehabilitating an Achilles and this helps me pass the time until I can get back up on my feet :-)
I have found that the best mould killer and the safest is Benzalkonium Chloride solution. You may find some in your first aid kit where it is used as an antiseptic for cleaning wounds. It is also used as an additive for water based paints as an anti-fungal agent and as a mildew and mould remover under such brand names as "Wet and Forget" I buy the stuff four litres at a time and use it for a great many things. Better than chlorine, safe and odourless.
Thanks Mike, we'll look out for some.
Love your shows, some of the best. Hope your travels bring you to NZ one day. 👍⛵🐬
They were there already before Phillipines and Indonesia, abt a year ago.
We often talk about doing another voyage through the South Pacific and returning to NZ, we enjoyed our time there so much in 2017/18. So maybe!
I love, love, love this video! I have been living on my sailboat for the past 7 years and I am prepping it to ...just sail away. As I attempt to explain to my friends how sailing can be so affordable, this video will now be shared with every one of them as a reinforcement to my beliefs: A beautiful life doesn't have to be expensive! Thank you, both, for sharing your life with us...
"I find it hard to put into words the utter euphoria and elation that washes over me at sea; followed by sheer contentment and overwhelming gratitude to be alive. It's an intensely addictive feeling, one that will forever have me coming back for more". That right there has me now subscribed and coming back for more! I'm happy I found this channel!
