- Normally I don't share a video this soon after it's been released, which is why I labeled it as I did. But it is Valentine's Day and they make such a cute Christine and Raoul. Perfect in every way.
Whoa! I was totally not expecting THIS. Rhys Whitfield is a near-perfect Raoul. He's tall, dark, aristocratic-looking, and has a great voice. He's also fun to watch because of his youthful energy.
I've seen every Raoul actor (principal actor) in London since 2006. It's extremely rare for me to be surprised and impressed by a new arrival. I've never seen a "perfect" Raoul (flawless in every single way) but heck damn, this guy is one of those near-perfect types.

Musicals may come and go, love songs may come and go, but to me this is the ultimate song of love. Too bad younger generations are not too interested in such musicals
True I just saw this in December and this bit is lovley the songs are long but are all very catchy and amazing I can't relate to shows like heathers or dear even Hanson but I can definitely relate to this smasher of a musical

Thanks for posting! I'm dying to see how they redid the Prologue scene. It's nice to see the new production. Does the Pegasus statue move when the Phantom appears? I wonder why they got rid of the angel statue from the proscenium. The orchestrations are different at 1:35, did anyone notice any other changes in the London production orchestrations?
I saw the New York production in November where the orchestrations are still the original as far as I could tell. I noticed some of the ballerinas were wearing bows in their hair during Hannibal, the delayed opening to the title song and the new choreography in PONR, but everything else seemed the same.
The Pegasus statue is onstage during the entire Rooftop and then moves forward and turns when the AIAOY Reprise begins. From what I’ve heard the council wouldn’t allow them to keep the angel due to safety concerns, which doesn’t make a ton of sense to me considering they allowed it for over 30 years. They have half the orchestra in London now, so various parts of the show may sound different. New York has some of the choreography and aesthetic changes from London, but their orchestra size, proscenium, chandelier, etc. have remained the same.
@@phanoftheopera Thanks for the info! I guess the safety regulations are stricter since some of the theater ceilings have collapsed in the past few years. I noticed in this clip Christine is very standoffish at the beginning of AIAOY, even pulling her hands away from him. She also seems to be laughing quite a bit during the song; it's more playful now. I guess a new directing choice.
Cameron got rid of the Angel to pay less in royalties to the Bjornson estate, nothing more, nothing less. It was purely a financial decision, not an artistic one.
@@georgemeier9055 lol what... the pegasus was still in Maria's design for Japan.... It was simply removed to be cheaper/ easier for the chandelier to operate.

Tempo is really fast, but I can still understand them really well. Some is certainly their diction, not just the recording.
