    This video was uploading all shift. Finally walked out of work around 8pm last night and BOOM! It processed. Seems UA-cam had been having issues yesterday with loading information. I’ll happily sit with a cuppa and read your comments, reply as usual, nice down time for me…not had to delete any unsavoury ones as yet so we are onto a winner! Thanks everyone, this was an unrehearsed kit out the bag and let’s talk about what I love video. I’ve not really bought anything that I’ve never liked because I scrutinise the reviews and research products within an inch of their life before I buy them as it’s some hard earned cash that! I simply can’t afford to buy twice. I’ve been so pleased with the performance and what the kit has helped me to achieve whether than be hiking a long way to camp, staying dry, warm or fed. No amount of gear can keep you as comfortable and safe as your intuition, knowledge and skills.
    I’ve had some real budget kit along this young journey of mine and it’s got me out there and performed the same. What I enjoy about the kit I have is how robust it seems and awesome quality. Like I’ve said, I’m going to enjoy swapping some kit out for lighter stuff, I’ll pack it up for the long sleep, such as Hillary! Some things I’ll be looking at…
    Trekking pole shelters with inners
    Sleeping bag
    Hokka One One hiking shoe
    Light weight back pack
    Got my eye on tarp shelters and the Durston XMid, Atom Packs and all the others inbetween. I’d like a shelter between 500-1000g a 3 season bag and a backpack that weighs inder 1000g. I’ll feel set to hike miles with that and my improved fitness…all recommendations welcome 🙏🏻 I always find it so helpful and many of you may recognise bits and bobs that I talk about are as a direct result of your comments and I have a lot to thank you for!
    Have a lovely Tuesday…lemsips next in my list ☕️💜☕️

      I have an atom+ it's really good quality but I have not had a chance to take it out yet. I will report back! I have a deuter air contact ultra which is really comfortable, but a bit heavier that I use for 4 season gear ( which lets face it is needed most of the year ! 😂). I have my eye on the xmid 1 but then again I really fancy an Enan too! I already have too many tents, as it is!.
      Always appreciate a kit vid being a gear nerd myself 😂. Love that you protect the ground from scorching too, it's really thoughtful! 😊

      Ive just bought the Durston xmid 1p solid, looking forward to getting out in it soon. Be warned though - you end up paying an extra £100 in import tax when you buy it.

      Did some research on uploading times. Small channels like mine take second place to large channel uploads. It is not first come first served. Very wise to be careful when purchasing camping gear. If Im sure I need it, I use my money! If Im not sure I use my wifes money! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

      Hey 👋🏻 thanks for watching 😊 I also like to see what others take, it helps me collect my own kit wisely. It’s important to me to not buy too many times before I get it right and I researched that bag for months before buying the bullet 😂 it was about £230 and a very worth while investment. The main things were weight to earth ratio and it comes in light and very warm but is adaptable for warmer conditions too with the foot vent and openness. Because I don’t sleep like a sardine in a tin it’s perfect 👌🏻 I’ll soon be ordering that all important trekking pole shelter 😍😍😍😍ATB, Sarah

      Especially when the weight is important to me yes! Light gear costs a fortune. I’ve had all the cheaper stuff like a £60 tent and £30 sleep mat but my pack weight would have been about 17Kg and I just can’t do that. Core and upper body strength aren’t that great 👍🏻 working on it! Also my own body weight loss helps me carry the load easier. I still haven’t gone all out regarding the most expensive stuff (ok Hillary, she was a present!) everything else I’ve collected has been well thought out and well deserved ☺️ working extra shifts is worth it when there’s a reason for it ⛺️ thanks for watching Mark…hole you’ve dried out from Pats place!BW, Sarah

    I've used a Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 over a hundred times. I always use a groundsheet protector. Whilst it's not as high quality, the protector is looking quite worn, the tent looks like new. I'd definitely recommend using a protector. A lot of UA-camrs might not, but most change their tent every few weeks.

    • @SoloSarahBX
      @SoloSarahBX  27 днів тому

      I haven’t got a ground sheet for my Durston Xmid as the aim was to cut weight down for summer but I still use the foil mat from home bargains £1.49 absolutely bangin 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      @life-outdoors 27 днів тому +1

      @@SoloSarahBX I am out every weekend, so the tent, although looked after, does get hammered. Luckily, this and my Terra Nova Pioneer 2 compact also came with a groundsheet protector. My Lanshan 2, I bought one. I am prepared to carry the extra weight to protect the tent. I don't plan on buying another tent anytime soon (although I nearly got a used Soulo recently (I was good and resisted this time). 😂

    • @SoloSarahBX
      @SoloSarahBX  27 днів тому

      @@life-outdoors 😝I’m done for now too! My winter kit pack weight was over 14.5kg and as a relatively small female with zero core strength weight loss from the pack and strengthening my own fitness are paramount so I don’t have to endure a heavy weight on my back. Luckily my backpack is well fitted and comfortable and I don’t yet hike miles and miles to camp but I hike to one day explore further afield. The Soulo with footprint was way lighter than my OEX Hyena 2p…wow that is a weighty tent I had for my first wild camp
      Last year! No need for a footprint, sure it’s got leather for a bottom 🤣

    Can't beat spending the night and having a roll around on ole' Big Agnes 🤣, got the Regular Wide Rapide SL myself and the Trekology pillow too. Comfy AF. I find my Atmos 65 (the blokes version of your bag) is probably the comfiest pack I've ever worn. You really don't feel the weight, and I too pack for comfort. I used to travel light and freeze at night in my younger days, but no more. I need comfort. I need to do another kit load out video, but too busy right now. Have I used the comfy word too often?

      Brilliant! Yes, I really love my bag and what it’s allowed me to carry as a relatively small ish woman with no upper body or core strength. I don’t feel the weight unless I’m loaded with water. Ole’ Agnes is definitely worthy of some praise for my comfortable sleep out there. Thanks for watching! Loved your Win hill walk with your family 😍

    Hi Sarah,
    Thanks for sharing your kit setup with us everyone has a slightly different preferences I'm sure you will have helped a whole load of people and I might well nick a few of your ideas. Lightweight shelter you said? Do you mean something like a Lanshan? If so remember what I said about getting the 2 person version, a bit more weight but loads more space and if someone does chance upon your camp they won't know if there are 2 of you and an Xl Bulley. You might even manage to persuade your son to join you at some stage. Good idea to keep Hillary in an oversized dry bag, they taught us that on survival training, always best to go oversized. For poor people 3 bin liners sort of do the same job. Hillary and footprint is lighter, I'm sure I've seen a mozzy net only accessory for summer use. Rab are gonna love ❤️ you if they're watching. A few more years and you will be running out of space to keep all your stuff. My wife has been nagging just this afternoon about my collection "do you really need all of this". As for scorch marks, I've just made an ultralight table (35gms?), can point you towards the video if you're interested. Kiddiwhizz are gonna love ❤️ you as well. As for sleeping bags, when I started out I loved mummy bags, loved being sinched in, I had an all night bladder now I prefer a duvet. See, there are nice people out there.
    Cheers

Normal sleeping bags feel so claustrophobic by comparison and with them I tend to get these panic moments where I feel the zip is going to jam and trap me inside. Best reason to use a footprint apart from the obvious comfort/protection and not having a mudbath in the porch is in like for like conditions it greatly reduces condensation, same as in Akto and Enan (ps the latter might be a great fit for you in terms of reducing weight in the summer and improving comfort and extending the life of your Soulo long term (UV etc). The Enan with a 10mm Nammatj pole can still take unfavourable weather if things go south but for UK summer use in the mountains it's a solid go too. Be a huge difference 8 weeks from now as we get into May and the hot (lol fingers crossed) weather. As for the S2S ultrasil drybags just a heads up i wouldn't trust them long term with say your sleeping bag or anything vital (use the canoe style, they are heavier and more expensive yes, but alot more reliable and last much much longer).

      @@SoloSarahBX Ahh yea no worries, it's a great tent, ive used mine past its designed performance envelope and its a cracking tent (i have the soulo also), My only gripe is it lack's the rain flap above the door on purchase however if you know a good seamstress you can have one added. It does have better head height than the Akto at the ends though and not fabric licking in moderate winds! I only mention about the Enan as it will soon be warm and well the Soulo becomes a sweatbox in still air and hot nights and well using your winter tent all year, esp in the summer will sure drop the longevity. The mesh ends on the Enan makes a huge difference to comfort, but then still can handle some pretty knarly weather, more so than say a walking pole design tent, and the weight is half the soulo.

    Excellent gear review, really appreciated.
    I've hiked a lot but not yet in winter/true snowy mountains and I'm wondering what gear addition would suit me (bag liner or bivy or both...etc.).
    Very much a 'this is what I've accumulated over the years, for my comfort level, gear on which I have been able to trust' review, instead of a 'you should really buy this ... which was kindly send to me last week, and I've tested it this afternoon in the backyard'.
    Saw some quite familiar stuff, love the easy Katadyn squeeze filter and I'll also use several dry bags to keep items dry and separated, even in spring or summer.
    Very nice looking backpack but I'm always a bit worried about the strength of the mesh, having experienced how luggage is handled during air travel.
    Take care, stay safe and happy travels.
    (Excellent decision btw to do the review outdoors instead of at the kitchen table 😉)

      And just as I catch up with comments today, yours pings up on my phone so thank you ☺️ you must have known I was just boiling the kettle to settle with another brew…great comment too, i definitely like to keep it true to the kit itself. I could have gone into lots of detail but I chose not to, it’s not what I enjoy, maybe because I am a visual person. I trust that others will do their own in depth research as I did before buying. I’m not recommending stuff it just gets my vote. Glad you pointed out the difference here. Somethings I didn’t mention like my Scarpa walking boots and the micro spikes I think they are fantastic products that I enjoy taking care of. Pretty much like my beloved tent.
      I have been very surprised by the strength and durability of the Osprey rucksack. It feels as if it would last me years. I don’t think my video illustrates how robust that back panel and strap structure is. All reinforced and no signs of wear at all. A backpack that I will carry happily for years to come. Not cheap but quality comfort.
      I will continue to review all kit in the field 🙌🏻 best wishes, Sarah
