This ride was created by Claudio Mazzoli (who has worked for Disney parks in the USA) and Richard Crane. They were inspired by Disneyland's "Pirates of the Caribbean." At the time (1990/92) this attraction was the best in Europe and cost 60 billion Lire (corresponding to about €55 million today). Until 2017, this ride was much better than now: the story, the effects...for example, in the swamp part there was the low fog effect, with real smoke.... Or, in the underwater scene, there was the smoke effect with misting water all over the area).😢❤
It wasn't created by Claudio Mazzoli, It was Richard Crane, one of the best in theming at the time. Mazzoli created the ship in the battle scene and the resturant in the village outside the attraction
@@BroodjeBal-tc3cjnono this is not the original version, it had effects and a strong storyline, this is an effort made by the park to update the ride (but they did not succed in that), i recommend you to check the povs made in around the 2000, that is the best version
This ride was a masterpiece back in 1992. The story and the theming were amazing, the rooms were huge but filled with details (now half of them have been removed). Too bad the park isn't run by the local people any more, attentuon to details and to the story is lost, the ride has too many problems and needs to be renewed to come back at its best shape. But we're lucky the ride is stil there considering they destroyed the first big and origina dark ride to make Jumanji wich has problems since day one and is less than half as beautiful as the original "valle dei re"
The projector sections were absolutely the weakest part of the ride. The physical theming was done really well, good use of lighting and textures, the visual storytelling was all there. You can see the animatronics are starting to age, which is expected for an older ride, but the captain in the one scene looked fairly twitchy so it might be past time to replace him. It's nice to see smaller parks use creativity and solid design choices to be able to pull off a solid quality ride like this without the huge budgets of bigger parks.
This ride opened in 1992 and it was spectacular. Imagineers from disneyland came to help designing and building the ride. At the time there were no projections on the walls and the experience was unbelievable, at the same level of pirates if the Caribbean. More animatronics, they were new and top technology at the time, more storytelling about two souls guiding you through the whole ride. Still beautiful today but yes, the projections are very weak.
What? Smaller parks? Gardaland is the most visited park belonging to Merlin Entertainments, the second company of amusement parks in the world... It doesn't seem a small park, at least in my opinion.
100000000000000000% this. Saying this is "comparable to Pirates of the Caribbean is like saying Frosted Flakes is comparable to pancakes. Yes, they both have pirates in them but that was the ONLY thing the 2 attractions have in common. The animatronics that did move were jittery and only had one movement. Lights just "switched" on during scenes for the first half of the ride and then slowly faded up on the second half. While I don't have an issue with using them in rides, the projections were washed out and the "actors" look like they were picked up from a middle school drama club. I understand that this might not have had the biggest budget, but you can clearly tell they blew 90% of it on the sets and the rest of the immersive elements were a total afterthought...
This Is not a small park, or ti be precise It wasn't when the ride was realized. Back in the day It was Majestic. Now half of the animatronics are broken or removed, the story has been changed so much by the video and doesn't male any sense now. Since It has been never repaired or replaced in time, its still quite good for having 31 years. But the park direction doesn't want to fix all the problem and bring It back to its old beauty
@@Legoless1979trust me that the original version, made 30 years, ago was spectacular, it was one of the two dark rides that helped the park becoming popular in all of Europe. This version of the ride is just bad, they tried to cover the aging by using projections. If you are interested look at the povs from the 2000'
They removed a lot of elements and projections in the last 20 years, also the lighting is all over the place. Check out the original version of this ride that was much better.
4 years of work (1988-1992) more than 30 different companies involved 6000mq, 40 meters underground the entrance is a real vessel in scale 1:2 the largest investment in the world up to that time (60 billion Italian Lire) AND YOU HAVE THE BRAVENESS TO MAKE FUN OF IT? Pirates of the Carebbean is not even half as good as I CORSARI. And, yes, I have been in Pirates of the Caribbean, but have you ever been in I CORSARI?
even tho its clearly based off pirates at Disneyland,I honestly thought that the set pieces and props were better than disneylands version by a mile!! disney obviously does a better job with atmosphere and story telling, but damn, this is not a half bad ride! I would love to go on this if I ever find myself there!
That sea monster animatronic used to lift his head and open his eyes and mouth... would be cool to see them fix it. You can see it in the historical video
The use of projector screens just makes the ride seem cheap and flat. This reminds me of a slightly better version of the pirate ride at Six Flags Over Texas. Cheap and underwhelming. It's almost as if they went over budget and had to scale back some of the rooms and scenes.
I agree with what has been said, it's sparse and the projections kind of take away from it. That said, it seems like an awesome structure as far as the ride vehicles and track, it has potential it just isn't there.
All these comments hurts, I've been to this park when I was little, and everything was a sight to see. But they've been taking more and more decisions based on money and are ruining all the attractions
Why are they replacing animatronics with screens? Screens are not that interesting, they should use modern tech like robots as "next gen animatronics", instead of screens. EDIT: not meaning the projectors that project on actual scenery- those look great!
Turn down some lights, especially of the "projections" or LED screens whatever hey might be, and you got a worthy rival of Pirates of the Caribbean and Pirates in Batavia. Pretty long, lots to see, great design and use of color and theming. All in all a very cool ride.
Props were good but they need to hide the projectors better and improve on the animatronics. Projection has the same issue with Disney Shanghai. WHen you don'e have enough animatronics, the space feels empty.
This is very impressive i love the projections is done awesome and the lighting blends well with the background and Change colors to fit with the scenes. Me personally its better than pirates of the Caribbean at the Disney parks
Not sure about the design choice of having two boats linked. The drops on the ride weren't huge, but the linkage seemed to slow down the boats as they went over them.
Can somebody translate the dialogue, please? I don’t speak Italian (in fact, I thought this was Spanish until the very end, where the ghost said “arrivederci”).
At the boarding station the ghost projection says "others (people) who want to discover the secrets of our refuge, the dark pitfalls etc... go, go... After the cemetery scene the two ghosts fighting say "others (people) have arrived, go, go... In the scene of the inn and the village a woman calls her husband from the balcony, saying "Sergio, get up and come home, there's the garbage to take out, can you hear me? Sergio!" Sergio from the inn replies "I'm COMING, i'm COMING, OLD HARPY" and continues saying "innkeeper, come on, give me some rum... but what am I saying, the rum has been gone for almost 200 years" and laughs. In the sea monster scene the ghost appears and says "you are almost there, your transformation (into ghosts) is about to end and now (talking to the monster) CATCH THEM! in the last scene, on the seabed, the ghost says "you have violated our shelter, and you have managed to escape, but next time... you will not be so lucky... ARRIVEDERCI!"
Everything feels like its soooo close to being good but just slightly off. The colors are beautiful and some of those practical sets are great. But then it's immediately followed by a largely empty corridor. They have some animatronics but most of the movement feels pointless yet a lot of scenes would benefit from more kineticism.
How is this a intimin ride? Seriously Sally dark rides should have done the entire thing as they specialize in dark rides. They would have done a much better job than whatever this is.
This ride is from 1992, then cheaply updated (removed many animatronics, changed storyline and added projections. Sally dark rides better stay away from this, we have enough cardboard cutout rides around the world made by them
the original version of 1992 was way better and ahead his times, animatronics' movements were better too, they made this cheap 2.0 version of the ride to cover years of lack of mantenainance, with projections completly disconnected to the original stories, the origina version was way more dark and misterious, with diffused fog (in the forest for example... It's not a mistery: Merlin doesnt love animatronics...
How lame are dark rides going to get? All that lavish set dressing in service of TV screens, projections and sub-Party City quality animatronics. The only thing I can say that's positive about this shoddy ride is at least they didn't turn into a moving shooting gallery like so many other budget rides do in an attempt to cover up the fact that the whole mess isn't interesting or fun.
it really got better as it went on. loved the forest, crystal cavern, and going under water at the end
I like the woods part thats pretty cool. I think other ppl expect way too much. This seems like a fun relaxing ride.
And it is a relaxing attraction, i always go there when i want to relax a bit between a coaster and another. The atmosphere is very particular
This is so good! I love the underwater parts. Thanks.
This is really good! I like that the canal design is narrow bringing the scenes closer to riders.
That sea monster animatronic is terrifying!
It traumatized me as a kid, It used to raise its head and open its mouth
@@gaia7240 Absolutely! And, if I remember right, it even emitted some smoke from its mouth! It was glorious and terrifying!

Visually it looks fine. They could have cut back on the open spaces since they aren’t filled up with anything.
This probably looks a lot better in real life when the camera brightness isn't adjusted.
