Talking about dealing with people with dangerous quirks: Eri technically has a body count, and when they got her away from Overhaul they were like "Yeah, we can't put her in an orphanage or anything, kids will start disappearing". Let's say Eraserhead wasn't around ready to switch her off at a moment's notice, where would you put her? Isolate this 6 year old and just keep giving her lizards to train on until she can safely enter society? Chilling on the most comfortable floor of Tartarus?
This is a good point. Aizawa provided an easy answer, but I wouldn’t really know how to deal with that without him. I don’t think they would’ve put her in Tartarus, as while they do put dangerous quirks in there, they still limit the inmates to those who are purposely trying to hurt large amounts of people, for the most part, at least. Eri definitely wouldn’t have warranted that much security. Not when she was just as scared of her power going out of control as everyone else.

A little interesting fact: When Yamada (Present Mic) mentioned “Even Kayama…”, he is talking about Midnight, not simply as fellow teachers but also when they were 2nd year students they ended up befriending her as a 3rd year
My hero anime is feeding us because in the manga the prison breakout went by so quick and didn’t have all that many panels in the 1 chapter centered on the event. So having it be the main focus and have some additional moments for the episode was refreshing
My Hero Academia is dealing with some dark and complex issues. dang, I didn't know they locking folks up, Pre-crime. That's awful. I guess quirk society did away with human rights. It turns out Stain, The League, and Shigaraki's got some valid points. Society is sick. Sounds like those in power are just throwing some people away instead of trying to help them. From the dehumanizing way that guard was talking about the prisoners, Quirk/Hero Society is on an ugly, destructive path. The way things are now, Quirk/Hero Society needs a total overhaul (no pun intended).
Good catch Director on noticing that description of Tartarus, the anime was not as explicit as the manga. They do in fact place individuals in Tartarus that have not broken any actual laws if your quirk is a potential danger to society (no judge, no jury...just permanently locked up). The say Human Rights puts alot of pressure on the Tartarus prison because they see it as a bad place. They probably have people that regularly come there to check up on the prison so you probably can't just kill the prisoners. In case of AFO...they said they can't just kill him. He has allies all over, they wanted to wait and give him a trial and everything. It would have also allowed them more time to investigate his connections and allies etc. Recall that the MHA series, even though it's in 6 seasons now....has only taken place over 1 years and some months. One of you guys made 2 predictions that were super accurate, that's pretty good. That will play out over the next couple of episodes. Good discussion guys.
Sad to think but Shinso would probably have been picked up and taken if he hadn't gone to a hero school. As soon as they wouldn't have to worry about outrage over taking a child, they most likely would have snatched up adult Shinso coming home from his 9-5.
@@In-The-Zone Eh, I doubt it. Unless Shinso would have actually started comitting heinous crimes they wouldn't bother him. Also his quirk is very easily disrupted since all it takes to cancel it is a small bump so I don't see why he would have to be locked up in Tartarus.

Take your pick. As much as I know the Heroes did all they could if your entire Home was destroyed and your family dead or injured I would be wondering why do we even pay taxes to employee heroes?
A little world building that might have been skipped over is that if you use your quirk in self defense you can get jail time. That's another reason why The people are a bit more judging of the hero's.
Actually, you can only use quirks for self defense but limited to that and not for general public use. This is from info in volume 9 of MHA manga (also mentioned on MHA wiki).
@raec5426 Even if it's self-defense, I think you still get in trouble for harming someone with your quirk if you don't have a hero license. It's why Deku, Tenya, and Shoto couldn't get credit for stopping Stain.
@justinmoore3669 That would only apply to Tenya. Deku and Shoto would have still gotten in trouble for using their quirks to harm stain. The same problem came up during the attack on the training camp in S3. Aizawa had to give them permission to use their quirks to defend themselves from the villains.
@Jayson Harvey Izuku and Shoto acted as heroes and went to help with hero killer it wasnt self defense, at the camp, they were given permission to actively combat the villains. While yes, if they didn't get permission and instead just used self-defense, they would have been reprimanded it wouldn't have been counted as vigilante. My opinion, obviously there's loopholes, etc. sense we are just speculating.

Overhaul seemed mentally shook last time we seen him with Shigaraki losing his arms. Here he only seemed worried about his pops that raised him. So that sense of regret he had before, since he lost his arms for his ability to take his pops out of his coma. I don't think his mind is in it like he used to be. lol
The way I took it is that it keeps the worst criminals. But if there is a criminal that has a quirk that is too strong then instead of getting a sentence/prison that a person that a regular quirk user would get they will instead be sent here. After all extremely powerful quirks they would want heroes to want so getting people there simply for being strong would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Loved the discussion on the prison system, guys! A little extra information to help decipher what's going on here: Several seasons ago one of the guards mentioned that they can't just kill AFO because he has allies all over still and they're worried about retribution on a massive scale if they were to kill him. However, we know that they do in fact have a death row system because Moonfish (the tooth guy who stabbed a bunch of people this episode) was introduced as a death row escapee. We haven't heard anything else on what their version of the death penalty is, but if it's anything like ours here in the US, it can take years before the people on death row are actually sent to the chair. Until then they just sit in their cells. That could be what's going on with these villains. One other reason they might be keeping these people alive is to prevent them from lashing out. In their cells in Tartarus, they're locked in a room with guns pointing at them that will fire if they even think of using their quirks (at least, we know this is true for AFO). In other words, they use the threat of death to keep them from using their dangerous quirks. If they were to outright try to kill them, they wouldn't be able to hold that threat over their heads anymore. Why wouldn't they at least try to escape if they knew they were about to be killed, as opposed to being kept alive so long as they don't try anything shady? By not actively attacking the prisoners, they're decreasing the likelihood of the prisoners attacking them. That's how I've always thought of it, at least.
Heroes are essential civil servants, almost no different than cops. The people trust them to keep the peace and make things easy for them because that’s the standard All might set. So now that their peace is gone the people are scared and looking to blame the heroes for not trying hard enough. “What am I paying taxes for?!” They scream “You’re supposed to protect us!”.

Just keep in mind that the hospital and villa operation had all available heroes on deck, with how much destruction happened I can imagine most of the heroes originally assigned to the prison had to help Also none of the villains who got arrested (including Compress and Gigantomachia) were at Tartarus yet by the time of the attack
i believe that some people should die for the better of the society, but the government is the last that i would give this power. Govs are only as good as you can keep them in check
Minor spoiler regarding Overhaul: Overhaul kinda mentally gone now as we'll see later, so Lee's hype for him many not last long. He might say screw Shigaraki now, but Overhaul is no better now either. lol
Most countries, at this point like all developed countries baring a few, don't have the death penalty because no county has perfect convictions and can't justify murdering innocent people just to kill people that they can remove from society with prison anyway.(Sad fact, in the US the admitted to innocent execution rate is 4% and most are incredibly painful through injection of non-regulated chemical compounds.) In super hero stories thats harder to grapple with because people can be walking nukes but its based on that principle of not wanting the government to have the authority to murder people that stories generally don't kill villains. This is why in Batman it makes a point to make its awful villains insane, as it means legally there can be a stay of execution for treatment which of course they break out before completing. By in large I think the only main DC villain that I know of who has ever been sentenced to death is Lex Luthor, while in marvel death tends to come about as a result of combat and clear self-defense.
So, it took the three heroes in the top 10, Two of UA's big three, the three most powerful students in Class 1A, A Veteran who taught All Might, and a man who literally erases quirks to give Shigaraki a decent fight, and in the aftermath, every single one of them is hospitalized while Shigaraki is doing prison breaks the following night. Well, aren't we screwed.
tragic thing about nana is that she would have been 'wrong' no matter what. If she stayed with kotaro, all for one would have used him against her. so she left him, and the result is that kotaro grew up angry, took that anger out on tomura, and now we have shigaraki. She had no good choices to make, but did what [at the time] she judged to be the least bad option. I don't think things turning out like this is her 'fault' per se as who could have forseen all this? I see some people saying she was terrible for leaving her child, but I don't agree. She chose his safety first
agreed. I don't understand people who 'blame' Nana. She knew she was going off to war with All-For-One and she probably would not survive. We don't accuse soldiers, who leave their families in order to fight, of abandoning their children. AFO was after her, knowing he would go after her family, she made that sacrifice to hide her child in order to protect her child.
Windu said the same thing. To dangerous to be kept alive and that's what helped turn anakin. Bc it's always what you should fo vs what needs to be done. The hard choices. All it takes is a lil doubt and an askewed perspective and you have people flip flopping.

one thing i never understood... overhaul has a quirk thats like shigi but like evolved.. if i was shigi.. and had the chance to get quirks.. that would have been the first quirk id asked for because it seems too similar to decay that it would have fit shigi. 🧐 i always thought about that.

Honestly, I think that wanting to give everyone their day in court is a noble idea. But once you get into people who have godlike power and a clear intention to spend their entire lives as a mass murderer, gleefully causing people to suffer, you should deeply consider loosening your moral codes. Nobody had any idea just how many quirks All For One had collected over the centuries that he was alive. That fact alone should’ve made everyone wary about how secure he was. They should’ve killed him immediately. But because they couldn’t, they should’ve arranged for his cell to become a damn blast furnace the moment something went wrong, because he was the one man that they absolutely could never allow to escape, alive or dead (cause let’s face it, these fuckers would’ve found some way to make use of his corpse, so they couldn’t let the body out either).
One of the primary reasons that they kept AFO alive is because they didn't want to make him a martyr, especially since the government was already receiving a lot of criticism for recent events and AFO is supposed to have a large underground following, not to mention the spread of redestro's political beliefs. Killing him could have caused the government to collapse and at the same time empower AFO followers and further spread redestro's ideals. They assumed that they would be able to hold AFO in prison because he was sealed away and they had multiple systems in place to kill him if he tried to break out. They weren't even really wrong for thinking this either because how could they have anticipated shigaraki and the near high end nomu's. As far as the government was aware of until the recent battle shigaraki could only decay and the high ends should have been too expensive to mass produce. They ended up relaxing their guard because until the most recent battle all villains except for AFO were at worst common serial killers or street thugs, If shigaraki and the league tried to do this prison break a season ago they would have been slaughtered.
@gun506 He was under sentencing too. They do have death row as Moon Fish on death row. But sentencing takes a little while for death row to be carried out.

is it just me or is the whole prison breakout a bit dumb like almost every hero was for the whole operation at the paranormal liberation fronts headquarters and many heroes died or were hurt but shigaraki and 7 nomus can just break into the most guarded place like nothing happens the only prisoners who died were killed by other prisoners that just sounds dumb to me man
Besides, remember that shigaraki's body has Ragdoll's quirk search which makes finding his body easier, I'm surprised you guys just assumed he would just let the nomus get it knowing that.

As much as i love Nana Shimura, i’m highkey blaming her. She wasn’t there for her kid, Kotaro, and so he went on to abuse Tenko Shimura, resulting in smth even worse then all for 1, Tomura Shigaraki
Blame her all you want.. the end result would have been the same and worse. Afo was on to her and her relatives. It was only a matter of time. He may have not found out about Kotaro at the time, but he did still find out about him later on and used her grandson and manipulated him. He was just waiting for the right time. Afo will destroy her, her relatives and everyone that is connected to her..Just as how he is messing with allmight.

Just keep in mind that the hospital and villa operation had all available heroes on deck, with how much destruction happened I can imagine most of the heroes originally assigned to the prison had to help
Also none of the villains who got arrested (including Compress and Gigantomachia) were at Tartarus yet by the time of the attack
Really great to see some of the villains come back... Hope to see good things from them
i believe that some people should die for the better of the society, but the government is the last that i would give this power. Govs are only as good as you can keep them in check

Most countries, at this point like all developed countries baring a few, don't have the death penalty because no county has perfect convictions and can't justify murdering innocent people just to kill people that they can remove from society with prison anyway.(Sad fact, in the US the admitted to innocent execution rate is 4% and most are incredibly painful through injection of non-regulated chemical compounds.)
In super hero stories thats harder to grapple with because people can be walking nukes but its based on that principle of not wanting the government to have the authority to murder people that stories generally don't kill villains.
This is why in Batman it makes a point to make its awful villains insane, as it means legally there can be a stay of execution for treatment which of course they break out before completing. By in large I think the only main DC villain that I know of who has ever been sentenced to death is Lex Luthor, while in marvel death tends to come about as a result of combat and clear self-defense.

So, it took the three heroes in the top 10, Two of UA's big three, the three most powerful students in Class 1A, A Veteran who taught All Might, and a man who literally erases quirks to give Shigaraki a decent fight, and in the aftermath, every single one of them is hospitalized while Shigaraki is doing prison breaks the following night. Well, aren't we screwed.
tragic thing about nana is that she would have been 'wrong' no matter what. If she stayed with kotaro, all for one would have used him against her. so she left him, and the result is that kotaro grew up angry, took that anger out on tomura, and now we have shigaraki. She had no good choices to make, but did what [at the time] she judged to be the least bad option. I don't think things turning out like this is her 'fault' per se as who could have forseen all this? I see some people saying she was terrible for leaving her child, but I don't agree. She chose his safety first

We don't accuse soldiers, who leave their families in order to fight, of abandoning their children.
AFO was after her, knowing he would go after her family, she made that sacrifice to hide her child in order to protect her child.
She also did it after her husband got killed related to conflict with AFO

one thing i never understood... overhaul has a quirk thats like shigi but like evolved.. if i was shigi.. and had the chance to get quirks.. that would have been the first quirk id asked for because it seems too similar to decay that it would have fit shigi. 🧐 i always thought about that.

Honestly, I think that wanting to give everyone their day in court is a noble idea. But once you get into people who have godlike power and a clear intention to spend their entire lives as a mass murderer, gleefully causing people to suffer, you should deeply consider loosening your moral codes. Nobody had any idea just how many quirks All For One had collected over the centuries that he was alive. That fact alone should’ve made everyone wary about how secure he was. They should’ve killed him immediately. But because they couldn’t, they should’ve arranged for his cell to become a damn blast furnace the moment something went wrong, because he was the one man that they absolutely could never allow to escape, alive or dead (cause let’s face it, these fuckers would’ve found some way to make use of his corpse, so they couldn’t let the body out either).
One of the primary reasons that they kept AFO alive is because they didn't want to make him a martyr, especially since the government was already receiving a lot of criticism for recent events and AFO is supposed to have a large underground following, not to mention the spread of redestro's political beliefs. Killing him could have caused the government to collapse and at the same time empower AFO followers and further spread redestro's ideals. They assumed that they would be able to hold AFO in prison because he was sealed away and they had multiple systems in place to kill him if he tried to break out. They weren't even really wrong for thinking this either because how could they have anticipated shigaraki and the near high end nomu's. As far as the government was aware of until the recent battle shigaraki could only decay and the high ends should have been too expensive to mass produce. They ended up relaxing their guard because until the most recent battle all villains except for AFO were at worst common serial killers or street thugs, If shigaraki and the league tried to do this prison break a season ago they would have been slaughtered.
@gun506 He was under sentencing too. They do have death row as Moon Fish on death row. But sentencing takes a little while for death row to be carried out.

is it just me or is the whole prison breakout a bit dumb like almost every hero was for the whole operation at the paranormal liberation fronts headquarters and many heroes died or were hurt but shigaraki and 7 nomus can just break into the most guarded place like nothing happens the only prisoners who died were killed by other prisoners that just sounds dumb to me man

Guys, how else was All For One was gonna get his body?, obviously he needed Shigaraki's body. He had to pull up.
Besides, remember that shigaraki's body has Ragdoll's quirk search which makes finding his body easier, I'm surprised you guys just assumed he would just let the nomus get it knowing that.

As much as i love Nana Shimura, i’m highkey blaming her. She wasn’t there for her kid, Kotaro, and so he went on to abuse Tenko Shimura, resulting in smth even worse then all for 1, Tomura Shigaraki

Blame her all you want.. the end result would have been the same and worse. Afo was on to her and her relatives. It was only a matter of time. He may have not found out about Kotaro at the time, but he did still find out about him later on and used her grandson and manipulated him. He was just waiting for the right time. Afo will destroy her, her relatives and everyone that is connected to her..Just as how he is messing with allmight.
Overhaul is one of the few villains from this show I actually like, it's great seeing him again. Also this is why heroes should be able to kill.
