I would suggest you, have a small resume of your situation, and google for "Neuro-Oftalmologia" or "Neuro-Oftalmologista" in Portugal, get email address, and send, to see response.. ..remember "ph" in Portugal is used with "f" for search purposes.. in Coimbra, Lisbon, Porto, are most of them..Portugal is less than 1 hour flight from UK.. ( if it doesn't work well as you and all of us wish ).. A "plan-B"..

When you described the kind of pain you're feeling it sounded exactly like how I felt when I got lasik. Extreme burning whether I close my eyes or keep them open. Maybe it is a nerve issue like you mentioned. Anyways, hope you get better soon!
I also struggled with doctors not able to diagnose me properly it drives me crazy. Sometimes we should really do our own research because we can't trust all doctors 🙄

I pushed for the urgent care nurse to evert the eyelid and swab to remove potential particles, but otherwise no one has done a close examination. I don't there's an issue with it specifically.

For yours, do you still have issues or did it eventually fade away? For most people they regenerate, but the timeframe can be unpredictable.
the pain from lasik was gone in 2 days but hearing these stories I'm worried if it'll come back in the future @@CurtisHolt
