A good manager would utilise them and rotate them around instead of sticking to the same team. He hasn't got the ability. these fans saying Southgate has done good up to now i don't buy it. He's been blagging it for years with easy runs and inheriting our best squad in years. we've played absolute shite football for years under him, been getting free rides through the tournaments for years. We beat the worst German team in years and choked in a final against the worst Italian team ever and people suddenly think hes a magician. The man has been blagging it from day 1. My club is in the championship and i wouldn't want him there to be honest he would probably relegate us, absolute no pattern of play whatsoever.

It's evident that the established players in the group: Pickford, Walker, Trippier Stones, Rice, Bellingham, Saka and Kane have become a reflection of Southgate's drab personality. They're not exhibiting leadership when it's needed i.e. when the team drops deep after scoring. And the attackers seem to be playing safe, playing with fear and not taking risks. Compare the performances of these lot, to the energy, creativity and risk-taking that Palmer, Mainoo and Gordon showed on the pitch. The new players haven't had time to absorb Southgate's negativity and are therefore able to play with some flair and freedom.

Exactly it's night and day compared to when they play with their clubs because they've brought into the mentality that Gareth has for the England team so every time they put on the shirt you see that. So experienced quality players like that end up playing sloppy football and get pressed and pushed by teams they should be winning against convincingly

The man is right. Even history has shown us. Southgate has had easy route in tournaments and scraped past teams on penalties. As soon as we come up against a good side then his negativity and lack of creativity are our downfall. People can bang on about his win % or getting deep into tournaments but a good manager adapts his tactics to the situation and wins tournaments.

@@jackdelacey2505 if you know anything about football, you will know the managers role is an important one, and as Southgate has shown with the fantastic squad of players, he simply doesn't know how to manage them or set them up. Warnock is far far more experienced, Wiley, and respected, and would get a far better tune out of them, there is no way you or anyone can deny that. He would use every ounce of his experience to get every possible return from that squad of players.

1986 is the first international comp I remember. Mexico. I had the panini sticker book and collected all the stickers. I remember the Hand of God moment. I remember Italia 90. Nessum Dorma. I cried when we left the competition on penalties; Garza, Linekar, etc. I remember ‘94. USA. We hadn’t qualified but i remember McDonalds had a “hat trick burger”. France 98; Beckham red card. Huddle…. My child hood years are full of memories around England in international camps. They brought the country together. I felt pride and excitement throughout the tournament.

Joshmaddo - I don't think you'd find many England fans who'd disagree with you. The only thing I would say is that there doesn't seem to be many great international teams around at the moment. But a team doesn't need to necessarily be great to beat us, they just need to be attack minded and competent. I can't say with any confidence that we'd beat anyone at the moment, let alone the likes of Germany, France, Spain etc

Considering foden hasn't been played in his correct position, at least foden leaving and going back to England for family matters
will force southgate to start Gordon on the left. As long as Gordon has a great game and effect the game in a positive way with
perhaps a assist or something like that, he could hold onto that position solving 1 problem. If that happens and foden does
come back it could force southgate into a situation where he cant drop Gordon, so he might actually have to use foden in his
favourite position, or use both Bellingham and Foden as rotation players. It could also force southgate to use Bellingham
alongside rice, which would free up the 10 position for foden and palmer. If foden doesnt come back, then we still have
Bellingham who could actually start playing well or palmer, who might be given a chance as a 10. Foden leaving could
actually accidentally fix England and force sothgate to make the right decisions. England might actually start to play at
their level.

Move Saka to LB, to make way for Palmer and rest Tripps (can't see Shaw being match ready), rest Bellingham (he is too off the boil and not gelling with the squad), move Foden to no.10 role and play Gordon as wing forward on the left. Start Mainoo as the best solution for the midfield dilemma, bonus that he has great link up play with Palmer and Gordon. I think they are the only tweaks required to get us fully functioning, maybe even get Watkins warmed up early if the system is not working for Kane. If the boss does this or makes those subs nice and early then he answers to the critics in style
Southgate is sticking to what he wants to do because if he faces fact that it doesn't work, he'll feel insignificant. If only he could realise that by taking others feedback and changing it, he'll get a tonne more respect and will still feel like he is someone.

Whether Southgate would want to stay, I'm not sure. Hopefully he wouldn't. I think a new manager would be Potter or Howe. Two managers who the FA would see as "safe hands," as they won't offend the media and that's what they consider to be most important. They won't take into consideration that neither of those two has won anything at the top level and don't exactly play stimulating football.

Agreed..but what I do disagree on is that Southgate doesn't see it.. he sees it alright..but he is willing to put his pride above the countries success no matter how much of a clown he makes himself look.. man is clueless as you say..I feel bad for the players.. they have to listen to him bore them to death with a team talk and they come out like zombies.
