RIP Paul Chapman...your songs and amazing guitar playing brought much joy to my youth... and still to this day! You will be sorely missed. A true gentleman!
Saw Paul and the boys blow the main acts off the stage in the early 80s twice , He was perfect, even his feedback was perfect, crunchy BC rich bitch guitar, 1 yellow, other red, perfect tone. Record sales shoulda been bigger but people were listing to dog shit back then.
Your father was one of my favorite guitarist’s, I love his playing with UFO, soundtrack of my youth, I’m 62 & still listening, I’m sure he is still rocking in heaven, RIP!
Great riff, and at 1:40 you can see Tonka adding these great counterpart notes to an already classic riff .. In all the years hearing this song, I never noticed that ...You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Schenker fan than me, but Paul Chapman came aboard and was incredible -- Wild Willing and the Innocent and Mechanix are two of my favorite UFO albums, and Paul's album ending lead on Professions Of Violence is one of the best leads ever .. RIP Paul Chapman, and RIP to the greatest, Mr Pete Way ..
I put Tonka's solo with his new 10 string B.C. Rich guitar on 1981's 'Profession Of' (title here in the States) up there with anything Schenker ever committed to tape. That was Paul Chapman's finest hour.
Check out those guitars!!!!! I really dig those old 1982 Washburn guitars!!!! They kind of look like Gibson explorer guitars and the Jackson Kelly guitars!!!! I am a guitar nerd!!!!!🤓🤓🤓🤓
66 is no age gone to early . Went to see . Lone star at skindles maidenhead Paul's playing had a marked effect on me forever . Went out and bought both albums and still got them
The reason I bought (and max’d out my first credit card!) a Washburn B20 bass - Pete Way started playing one! I still have it 40 years later, the same burst that Pete had. In fact, all three guys are playing Washburns here - Paul & Neil have the A20s!
"Absolutely Kicking Ass Here " on this song basically UFO is a unique band unlike really any other band. they are in a class by themselves . And if you really want to hear music that brings out deep feelings and emotions both hard and soft always turn to UFO.
Phil with his usual mix up on the last verse...lol Wish they went into Let it Rain ....other wise a great version of this awesome tune... And easy church "our lady of the night"
It kind of reminds me of when I used to hand out flyers advertising for my bands next show (This was in the 90s) to the college students who don't care!!! They would throw the flyer away or drop it on the floor. But Noooo!!!!!!, They will line up for hours standing in line and spend a Shit load of money for tickets to see Foo Fighters or Weezer or Radiohead and they can barely play their instruments!!!😒😣😞 It was kind of disheartening and it was demoralizing but I would persevere and promote the show any way. @@bill2527 Force It, Lights Out and Walk on Water are all good albums, but the rest of the Schenker albums are hit and miss affairs, with lots of boring 70s dross. The Chapman albums are consistently better. You Schenker lovers are blind to reality.
@ Hell Yes Michael "I quit" Schenker can go goose step elsewhere..didn't miss him at all. When UFO reuniited in 1995 with him. Walk on Water didn't even make the charts in the US or even worse the UK. No one cared he was back.
I saw UFO in 1978 with krokus and judas priest and they was a rockin band. I dont no why they didnt hit it big like other bands at the same time they was good
Because as the band were on the verge of breaking big, Phil Mogg made it impossible for their main asset, the man who brought them their initial recognition, Michael Schenker, out of the band, and in doing so ruined all the hard work of the previous 4 years together. They then had to draft in Paul Chapman, a great studio player, but he couldn't play Schenker's leads in any credible way. With Schenker gone they lost their harder edge, and as a result became more of a a pop/rock band.
Thanks for the reply. you must have been closer to the stage than me. From my vantage point it appeared that Phil seemed to have an verbal altercation with someone in the front few rows of the audience. And then went off to huff about it, sitting on the drum-riser, which seemed to last for an eternity. Shortly after, in the press, there was some talk of the band playing a Marquee gig or two as an act of atonement.. Never materialised, though. Yeah, great band. The best.
Looked like a bunch of New Wave kids in audience totally lost at wrong show..in 81 my band covered this song and got better response everytime..everyone loved this song..crowd not a rock crowed. UFO KICKS ASS.
My friend's brother was in the crowd. They couldn't hear the band and the band couldn't hear themselves. The sound in the video is from the desk and some studio mics that worked.
Has anyone else noticed that Phil Mogg changed the lyrics in the last verse? The "gay" reference (on the album version it goes "Life goes on down the streets. Contacts made where the gay boys come to meet") is dropped.
Bona Drag he made a habit of sometimes repeating verses during live versions. Plus the censors for tv at the time may have said he can’t say that line. Regardless, great song, great lineup.
@@bill2527 No. You clearly have no idea what life was like back then. Any reference to homosexuality on TV was a no-no. It was nothing to do with 'A-hole liberals' or PC - quite the opposite in fact, because attitudes to such things stemmed from a very right-wing approach to the whole subject. Homosexuality was a crime up punishable by prison or even chemical castration up until the late 1960s for example - add on top of that Clause 28 etc. The current PM of Britain was campaigning against homosexualaity in the 1980s. That hopefully gives you some idea of how fucked up things were back then.
@@bill2527 Why don't you tell the class about exactly WHO you really really want to degrade and insult but now feel you cannot because of PC. Do you feel oppressed somehow because just bashing entire groups of people is now frowned upon? DO TELL.
Hi:1st night. The 2nd was a blinder which made it even more ironic. I'd love to hear a recording of the 1st gig to confirm my memories- Mogg catatonic stage center telling the audience they were "all crap" while Way, just as out of it, tries to jump on his back. Neil hands on hips, Tonka jamming to himself and Andy probably so embarrassed. Having also witnessed Maiden self-destructing while filming Live at the Rainbow, these were strange old times. Always love UFO though, at least they're human!
I'm guessing this song was brand new for the time or the audience were waiting for John Martyn to come on.. can't believe the total lack of response there!

So many great guitarists passed through the UFO ranks from Schenker to Moore.

The guitarist was only moody because the singer was making his life hell!
