Cool story about this song. When my oldest daughter was little, this is the song I would sing to her to put her to sleep at night. Night after night, laying on the floor beside her crib, for 2 years. My wife never even knew. Then one day, on our way home from a wedding, I put in the Randy Travis CD and told the wife, "prepare to be amazed". My little 2 year old sung it word for word! Now, she is soon to start driving, ans I can hardly get through this song without crying. Love every second with your little ones folks!
Randy is from Marshville, North Carolina about15 miles from where I live. He sang at a club we used to go to in Charlotte and he sang and we danced for our 15th wedding anniversary in 1981. Love his voice.
I had the privilege of seeing Randy live over a dozen times, and singing came to natural to him, he had the ability sign autographs and sing without ever missing a note. I sure do miss him on the stage!
thank you for your attention to this song. i've been a fan of randy travis for literally as long as i can remember (he first broke when i was 3-4 years old) and while this song isn't one of his biggest hits, i've always thought it's just a perfect country song--if aliens landed tomorrow and we had to explain to them what country music is, this is the song we should play. god bless.
@@lateesha8174 That's lovely, makes me smile. My step-father ( who took me to my first Country concert here in the UK when I was 9 to see Don Williams in the early/mid-70s) used to sing it to my mother, it was their song, hence being played at her funeral. It was tragically beautiful.
You are going to love this one. There is no better song to showcase RTs voice. Along with George Jones perhaps the two best pure country singing voices ever. And the emotion and pure sincerity of the way this song is out a flawed human being struggling with his faults. Beautiful and painful performance.
Watching him struggle with his songs now, breaks my heart. He was blessed with an amazingly unique voice. I think it was a true joy for him to share that blessing.
He was in that "Jesse and Frank James" movie too, that stared Bill Paxton.. My dad knows the guy that played the role of the guard on the left side of the screen that walked Bill Paxton "Frank James" up to the sheriff to hand him his gun. Kinda weird because my mom told me and pointed the guy out to me as we were watching him fix our tire at a tire shop in a terrible trashy town of Watts, Oklahoma when I was about 3-4 years old.
Seen him live once here in Detroit, one of my favorite 90's country singers. He has a great unique, smoothing voice. Very good live as well. My favorite song by him is called The Box.
He was on the Huckabee show this past Saturday night. His wife had to answer questions for him. It is so sad to see such a talent loss to a stroke. God bless Randy Travis!
Love this Guy!!! I almost cried...I like tear-jerker Country songs. I always have and no other genre does them better than Country. Anyway that's how I feel. It's another traditional Country tune and Randy Travis does a great heartbreaking job.
It’s worth mentioning here that in his mid 50s Randy suffered a major stroke and will never be able to record or perform on stage again. A tremendous loss of one of the most gifted voices of any genre.
I've always thought Randy Travis has one of the very best voices in country music. I just can't bring myself to say "he had", as no matter what happens with his career in the future, we will always have his many recordings done prior to his stroke. May God bless him with improving health for many years to come, and may we be hearing his voice again!
His voice was so natural. For country music. It seemed like it was effortless for him. One of my favorites of all times, right up there with George Jones, Alan Jackson, Alabama, and the list is long. Who's gonna fill there shoes when they are no more.
It's not effortless, it takes practice and a real desire to sing good. Even though it comes more natural to some, they still work for it and in time they get better. The best of the best will practice like few are willing to do, that's how they get good. It really does take a hell of a lot of work... guaranteed. Most people couldn't survive it and will give up, only the best get there with some luck and perseverance.
Achoooo bless you..lolol Randy has such a great voice..you hear a song by him on the radio and instantly you know it is him..so sad all that talent is now in bad health from his stroke..this is such an emotional song.
You're right, it's a very emotional song. The first time I heard this song I was around 11ish and balled my eyes out...lol. We used to fall asleep listening to the radio and this song would come on in the middle of the night and would literally jolt me out of a deep sleep. I'm 48 and I still cry like a baby when I hear it. And, it's even more emotional knowing about his stroke but I heard he's not giving up so that makes me happy.
One of my favorite songs by him definitely. Another one my greatest fear from the movie black dog by him is one that personally fits my life as a truck driver for over 18 years
And I want I'm not going to lie the first time I heard Randy Travis really sing was on Hey Arnold and I really like that song. That's when I went back to see what other songs he sung. So thank you Hey Arnold for the the first to lget me to ike him. And to For Ever Amen to keep me going on.
Love this song so much, There is so much passion in the lyrics. About a man who has a bad alcohol problem but thinks it's fine cause she stays with him as he says "I Promise to quit. All these years and she couldn't take it anymore and as he sleeps, she says "goodbye"
@@planojag595 no, I was at a few of his concerts in the years and he said it was about drinking cause in real life he had a drinking problem and he married his manager who turned him around.
Skywarn-Hurricane tracker Randy Alex Drewery Hmmm. I guess I can’t understand why the song says “cheap perfume and painted faces, fallen angels fill the places, where I go when my troubles pull me down...all the lies I know they’ll tell me and the time that they will sell me, for a while I’ll be the biggest man in town.” It sounds like a whorehouse to me.
@@planojag595 I agree but it was aboimut his drinking. Non the less a great song. There is a concert and it's on UA-cam of a bunch of songs he and Josh Turner do. That’s because he’s an artist and not a show person. I saw Merle three times between 2000 or so until his death in 2016 and Willie Nelson somewhere between 2011 and then. Both of them did the same thing. Songs from beginning to end, minus stopping to introduce the band. No stories in between songs to fill the time. Just music, music, music. The music is the draw with people like them. No video screens or lights needed to appreciate it.
Wow,he was so young in this video. The facial expression is a trait of blue grass roots, bringing a story with out personal feelings showing by facial expression ect.
Agree but this song is abt an addiction to sex (which is a taboo topic). This is a song about sex addiction, not just being unfaithful which when I hear reactions, they think it’s just being unfaithful. He’s going to see prostitutes at night. Being married to a sex addict (now divorced), it was so hard to understand what and why he did the stuff that he did. This song explains how difficult it was for my ex because he wanted to stop. He promised to stop. He just couldn’t stop. And there wasn’t enough marriage counseling to keep us together. One day, I couldn’t do it anymore and filed for divorce. No looking back. Luckily, I am remarried (going on 14 years now) to an amazing man. I don’t cry anymore. Sex addiction is a very difficult (and taboo) subject to talk about, so “we” keep everything internalized. 💕 I explain to people that alcohol and drug addictions are “normal” in today’s society. Dealing with this addiction is lonely. I’m glad I didn’t give up on love. ❤

I was scrolling through the comments and ones that stated it's 'sad' to see him sing after his stroke kind of puzzle me? I've been around quite a few people who've had strokes, currently one (my aunt) had been unable to speak/sing at all for about a decade now. The other my best friend happened last year, not only is she able to talk/ sing/walk again, and her daughter was told that she wouldn't recover to this place, so seeing Randy Travis singing again really gives me hope that it is possible.
Randy sang at his HOF induction ( in 2016) the first verse of Amazing Grace ...you can probably find it on here somewhere. Randy's vocal cords were not affected by his stroke. He remembers all the words to everyone of his songs. Where he has problems, is translating those words from his memory to his vocal cords.
I was soooooooo convinced as an itty bitty girl (from 3 till pre teen age) that I was gonna marry Randy Travis when I grew up lolz. Maybe God has better in store for me. :) thank you for this reaction Ty and God bless you my friend! I never comment on here, but felt compelled to today. Beautiful song. Love his voice. Nice to broaden your horizons. Am glad you picked this one. Personally I'm not into his religious songs. I really like Look Heart, No Hands and Where Can I Surrender. ;)
story about his facial expressions claims when he first started being on stage it scared the hell out of him but he loved singing , the size of the crowd must have been part of the issue, he would focus on a point in the crowd and use that to deal with it
Back in the 80s or so country music went down hill. Turning to a more pop sound. I loathed it. Then comes Randy Travis and George Strait and others like Dwight Yoakum who brought us country folk back home. God bless them all. Today country is unrecognizable and I dont care for it. Its lost. I listen to old school stuff these days.
Old traditional country is coming back, just wait and see. Those record label idiots are loosing big money over the new crap and they know it. Countless times I've seen nothing but the newer generations listening to older music in many genres. This new crap is pushed on us and most of society hates it cause it's not real talent and it's all flat vocals. This so-called talent don't even really work for it cause they use technology to make up for it. These idiots are hand picked not because of talent, but because of position given to them... they don't work for shit... and can't sing for shit either. Society wants real talent, not fake crap
This is what a real country singer sounds like!!!!............. anybody thinks Jason Aldean or Luke Bryan are country singers, you’re delusional!!!!............. I remember the song by George Jones who’s going to fill those shoes, Well unfortunately they don’t make those shoes anymore.

Every time I hear this song I cry
He sings from his heart.
Need to hear his version of It's just a matter of time! Definitely worth your while
The Christmas Shoes. It's a great song and movie. A song that touches ur heart. Love for u to do that one and see ur reaction.
I love the way you drink the music in.
"I told you so"..great one too
I was soooooooo convinced as an itty bitty girl (from 3 till pre teen age) that I was gonna marry Randy Travis when I grew up lolz. Maybe God has better in store for me. :) thank you for this reaction Ty and God bless you my friend! I never comment on here, but felt compelled to today. I enjoy your channel and look forward to many many more videos to enjoy.
Greatest RANDY song ever. So true. What is he up to now?
He was so YOUNG! Love it. To hear another awesome baritone, you have to listen to Josh Turner doing "Long Black Train"
Miss him singing it's heartbreaking watching him try to sing but he 🥫🥫
That’s solid country good right there and bless you 😬
I hate to sound like the X-Factor but here goes. " It's all about the voice, all about the voice". What a great song and performance. R
Randy Travis is great. He has suffered from a very sad stroke.
I recommend you listen to Johnny Reid singing Who’s Going To Love ,,, amazing voice and what a message
That man aint no joke, he told the whole truth.
Love hearing randy
Thanks love Randy Travis
My first love at age 10, and I'm still a fan!
Beautiful song. Love his voice. Nice to broaden your horizons. Am glad you picked this one. Personally I'm not into his religious songs. I really like Look Heart, No Hands and Where Can I Surrender. ;)
Love Randy
God bless you
I know why he doesn't change expressions. He is saying something. Heartfelt and intended to help others.
Welcome to the Country.
story about his facial expressions claims when he first started being on stage it scared the hell out of him but he loved singing , the size of the crowd must have been part of the issue, he would focus on a point in the crowd and use that to deal with it
Another great story teller!
BLESS YOU TY.
It’s really like he’s not even trying it’s so easy to him
The pride of NC
Randy Travis he walked in water
If he couldnt sing a note i am sold on the gleem in his eye as he sings " when my troubles bring me down"
Back in the 80s or so country music went down hill.
Thank you
No disrespect but Randy never Had To Practice A Look It was HoW he Felt and with true feeling you dont need to PRATICE
very few New Country artists can compare to the Classics...imho
Love Randy please do his song -On the other hand
This is what a real country singer sounds like!!!!............. anybody thinks Jason Aldean or Luke Bryan are country singers, you’re delusional!!!!............. I remember the song by George Jones who’s going to fill those shoes, Well unfortunately they don’t make those shoes anymore.
You should check out Josh Weathers I will always love you live at the Kessler .... great version and cool story
can you react to Randy Travis Forever and Ever Amen
Bless You!

You should react to Randy Travis 'Just A Matter Of Time '. It's one of my favorites.
