I am a product of West Texas, just like this song! Damn if it is not true. I never has 2 cents to rub together. At 10 years old I worked cattle. My Daddy was a Baptist preacher. We would build additions / renovations onto folks houses for extra money. Daddy always told me do a hard days work, be3 honest with folks, preach Christ to them, and if they curse you, say, God Bless you. When my papa died I crumpled up in a big ball, beside his bed in the hospital. A tough as nails Marine sobbing like a baby beside my Daddy's bed. He was gone. He preached the Gospel, gave the shirt off his back and every last dollar in his wallet to others that needed it more than he did. At 17 years old he was in the Navy, in the Pacific, fighting bare knuckle fights for cash, sending it home to his parents. This was WWII. He weighed 168 lbs. At 140 lbs, at 16, I was fighting Golden gloves. I wanted to be like Daddy. I went on to fight for the Marines, at 138 lbs, whipping guys 50 lbs. bigger than me. Why? Cause I thought he, my Baptist preacher daddy walked on water. I am old now, my fingers and hands busted from any a fight, but he still walked on water. I pray to God someday I can be half the man my Daddy was. I spent 28 years in the service trying to walk on water. I was a bad mamma jamma. I went to all the schools, got all the bad ass training Uncle Sam could give me to be BAD. I killed bad guys, I saw the crap. I finally realized what I lacked. I lacked a love for mankind, a love for today, a love for the forgiveness by Christ. My granddad could wrangle horses better than a REAL Mexican (Grosebeck was his name, son of an old horse cavalry soldier in south-west Texas at Ft Davis). Once GRACE entered my heart, I knew I was on the right track. Only The Holy Spirit does that to you. I am old now, but I KNOW my Daddy, a WWII Sea Bea, he walked on water, jack! He taught me everything I know, how to box, how to be humble, how to say thank you, how to go to funerals, say the words the people need to hear, and how to forgive people. That war taught my Daddy how to be Baptist Minister. That Minister taught me how to be a man. I thank GOD for that. I cry today, because I miss my Daddy. That is the theme of this song. Travis sings of his Granddad. I sing and cry for my Daddy. I love him and I miss him so much.
There is a story about Randy Travis, as told by Garth Brooks, where someone told him he was #1 one on the Pop charts. His response was, "Pop charts? Get that $h!t off there!"
I saw Randy Travis when he first started 30-40years ago.Im 55 yrs old and I've always been a Country Fan My Kids my ex-husband an my grandkids love it My kids say that I forced them to listen to Country Music growing But my 5 yr Old Granddaughter says GIGI can you play Randy Travis! Makes my heart beat
Excellent choice! Yes, Randy was a Believer before he even had his stroke....he "fell" a couple of times, but he got back up!!! Haven't we ALL slipped and fell?
Randy is amazing. He has come a long way since his stroke. God has def blessed him. They brought him out for the 50th can awards, made me cry seeing where he is and how he used to be.
This is one of my favorites. I miss my grandpa so much when I hear this song. My grandpa was a farmer and a cattleman. He let me ride his old horse and play with his baby chicks. He called me his little angel baby. I thought he was the biggest man I had ever met! This songs hits me in the feels.
Hey brother, I heard what you said about the stereotypes... you’re a good man, you obviously have morals. There is nothing wrong with loving your mama and living with her. Don’t matter if someone’s purple, if they got morals and take care of their family don’t mean a damn what anyone thinks of them. I enjoy your channel brother, you are doing good things!
My father, rest his soul, was truly, deeply loved by his children and grandchildren. I thought he walked in water. But understand I do not put him above Jesus. I was not the only one to feel that way about this wonderful man. When my father was diagnosed with cancer in 1997,my oldest son and his cousin decided to sing this song at my dad's last birthday two months before he passed on. There was not a dry eye to be found.
Love Randy Travis, first CDI ever bought was his first CD. This song reminds me of my Great Grandpa. He was 80 years older than me. Born in 1885. He was talking with my dad around the time of the Apollo 11 moon landing. First machine he recalled seeing was a bicycle. He lived through WW1, WW2, Korea and Vietnam to see a rocket leave earth.
Love me some randy travis!!! I love the fact that you love the Lord , it don't matter black or white we are all brothers and sisters!! Love the videos brother you should try Randy travis on the other hand !!!#fan4life
This song brings me memories of my great grandfather, Clyde Tankersley. He was a preacher. I'm not a Christian anymore. But dearest gods in Asgard, this song is my grandpa. My Mama's mama was his oldest daughter. I Revere my grandpa Tankersley
Randy Travis was the first live show I ever attended when I was 15. Mark Wills opened for him. I'm 38 now, and that's still one of the best experiences in my life.
Yes, Randy Travis did act in a few movies and Television shows. He is also a wonderful Christian man. I love this song, as it reminds me of how I felt about my own Grandpa. I was the very first grandchild they had. Grandpa and I had a very special relationship. I felt as if he was the best Grandpa in the whole wide world, and he was the only Grandpa that I had. I love him still very much and miss him so very much, but I know that one day we will be reunited in Heaven! Have you listened to Seven Spanish Angles by Willie Nelson yet? That is a beautiful song, please if you get a chance, listen yo it. God Bless and take care, my friend! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
They are still real cowboys exist even now there just isnt as free roaming like it was then where you would be able to drive your cattle long distances like state to state town to town .
Randy Travis is a good Christian man. I love singing along to forever amen, diggin up bones, three wooden crosses, and deeper than the holler. His a baritone and so am I.
Thank you for introducing me Randy Travis and to this song. Your reactions are always spot on. I generally don't care for country music but love discovering artists like this one 😉
Dang, made me cry (again) Dude. It reminds me of my Paw-Paw Burnett. Everyday after his Lunch, he'd sit in his chair, turn on the old AM not FM radio (am only back then). He'd read his bible until our station had The Trading Post and then Paul "and now the rest of the story" Harvey. I actually saw him knock DAN (a Very Big Plow Horse) to his knees with one punch. And then when Blazing Saddles came out and Mongo knocked out the horse, it came flooding back to me, now it's funny but back then it scared me (8 yrs. old then). After that Ol' Dan did what Paw-Paw said cause he didn't mess around plowing by horse when he had about 8 acres of corn and stuff to plant. He weight about 290 lbs. and I was a pallbearer and the funeral guy said "You're gonna need more help. That is one big heavy man." I still miss him and Maw-Maw.
Here's the best video for this song. The official 80s video. A heartwarming illustration of the song. It's a song about a boy & his beloved great-grandfather, a cowboy from the old west, born in 1873. "Ninety years old in '63." The video switches between the "boy in the song" and his great-grandfathers house in the late 50s or very early 60s, and what it would have looked like, abandoned for decades, in the 80s. Whether this specific story is true or not, I don't know. But, like almost all traditional country, before it went utterly to the dogs in the past few decades, it is at least "true to life". Meaning, the basic story has happened in real life countless times. Country music is often described as "three chords, and the truth." The great B.B. King once described it as "the white man's Blues." Which was a great compliment. "(I thought that) He Walked On Water" (official video) Randy Travis, circa 1983 ua-cam.com/video/eCVw8Qjeg84/v-deo.html
This is the first song I remember hearing as a tiny little girl. My stepdad used to listen to it all the time. He's been gone now for about 10 years and this always makes me think of him.
This song always makes me think of my "Grandpaw". He wasn't blood, he was definably ole school, and from a different time/era in the world. But, he was and always will be my hero. Love this song. Grandpa's don't get the credit they deserve anymore.
This song always reminded me of my Papaw (My mom's dad). I was his fishing buddy, he'd bring me along so I could bite the lead sinkers on the fishing line for him because he didn't have any teeth. He didn't just laugh, he'd dance around, slapping his leg, tears running down his face. He'd tell a funny story and he'd be laughing so hard we didn't have a clue what he was saying but we started laughing because he was laughing. Later on I'd ask Mom for a translation. "What did he say?" He was just a sweet old man.
You are a prolific poster, sir. And I thank you for that. I have gained so much respect for you I can hardly elucidate. At first, I thought "How has this man never hear of the music of..." son-and-so? But you ARE a modern renaissance man, apparently. You're learning that there is much more than hip-hop (not actual music) and you're embracing it. Hooray!
This song reminds me of my grandpa. My dad is his oldest son and he is a great cowboy. He is on his death bed right now. He will always be the best in my eyes
Can you hear the rich timbre in his voice?!!! He is amazing and I have always loved this song about the love a boy has for his great-grandfather and how he was an angel in the boy’s eyes. Please react to Promises by Randy Travis. Thank you Ty! We appreciate you.
Thank you for this video. We played it at my dad's and grandpas funeral. My dad had a heart attack at 44 and the very next day his dad died at 73. This song is sooo comforting to me.
Many country artist are very vocal Christians and also record gospel music. Vince Gill and Ricky Scaggs are country singers who also record gospel. Elvis Presley recorded some beautiful gospel music.
I think I mentioned before, his song On The Other Hand is just beautiful. He played in several Christian movies, The Wager, with Kirk Cameron's sister Candace. And in Jerusalem Countdown. Both made by Pure Flix, who made the God's Not Dead movies.
Randy Travis is a all time country great! He has a number of great songs! One of my favorites is for ever and ever Amen! Digging up bones is another great one he also was in a movie called black dog with meatloaf & the late Patrick Swazey
As a teenager, I used to go to Colorado to hunt elk every year, shortly before he had that stroke. We used to stop at a certain gas station in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The workers told us that Randy stopped in there all of the time. I guess he must've lived close by. It would've been cool to have ran into him.
this song always makes me cry thinking of my Papa who was a cowboy, logger, moonshiner and mechanic i lost him when I was in my early thirties its been over twelve years and I will always love and miss him
Randy Bruce Traywick, aka, Randy Travis spent time in prison for burglary. He didn't have a bigger fan than me when he first hit the country music scene. He married his much older Manager. It's my understanding drugs and alcohol caused his stroke. I met him at our SC State Fair and had photo's autographed. So sad that his rise to fame was more than his love of Jesus. If you'd react to my favorite from him, I would really appreciate it. It's called, "A Matter of Time"
Hard to hear this song even after all these years. I was played at my grandfather's funeral, this song was so my grandpa. I am glad you did this song even if I still end up in tears. Thank you
Just wanted to let you know I really appreciate your reaction videos. Really liked the ones about Charlie Pride. Keep it up, looking forward to a lot more of your stuff.
Randy was a bad boy in his young life. Then he met his wife and she should him another way. I listened to all of his music back when his songs first came out. I always looked forward to the next song.
Josh Turner, Long Black Train.....before he became famous, he lived like 7 miles away from me. Great country singer. His first album is mainly like country gospel music! Check him out bro.
According to IMDB, Randy Travis was in a lot of movies and tv ... "Touched by an Angel" and "Matlock" and many more. I agree, though, he's such a natural.
Love this Song!. The Music video is just Awesome. This song reminds me of my "Poppy".. my Father In Law. He was a Mexican Immigrant who raised 8 kids working his ass off. After I was married every time I got an Apartment or House I ALWAYS gave him and my mother in law a key and they always had a room with me, as they lived in Mexico on their ranch most of the week. As they aged they basically moved in with us. I was away in the Military a lot so he and my son were very close, Whenever he went out to do yard work my son would follow him around and "help" him. Poppy had a Stroke that left him unable to speak for the last 8 years of his life, but he stayted with us and remained close to my son. He passed away in 2008.
I like your channel and the kinda videos you make man. You seem like a humble and down to earth person and that’s much appreciated in today’s time. Keep up the good work👍🏻 Bless you
Randy travis has one of those traditional country voices that is so soothing to me. Whisper my name is probably my favorite. He has a lot of country christian music. And yeah had some good acting chops too. From black dog to texas rangers and even a Christmas episode of touched by an angel
My Mom and I 'bout had a heart attack the first time we saw him on TV. He looks and sounds exactly like my only maternal uncle and her only baby brother. Oh how we cried.
I subbed after a couple vids. Plus I already watched lots of your other. Randy Travis is one of my all time favorites. Gotta check out On the Other Hand. One of my faves from him besides others. I listen to all different types of music and it's awesome that you're checking out stuff you've never listened to. Keep this up bro!
Haha ! Love Kane. 😊 I am pretty new to your channel, so not sure what has been requested and done already, but I want to put Angels Among Us out here by Alabama. Going a bit old school, one of the country groups I grew up on wad the Statler Brothers. Johnny Cash got them going in their career (they have a song about it called We Got Paid by Cash) but one of my favorite songs by them is called Class of 57. I swear, just change the year and the names and it will fit anyone's high school graduating class ... Pictures by them always makes me tear up when it mentions "the last one that we ever took of Daddy ..." Great job ! I am a loyal listener/watcher already. Lol ... I plan to check out your other video subjects, too. Just enjoying the music so much. It has been a long time since I had anyone I could talk music with and you have the vibe of friends gone now that I used to hang with. Hey. Another song I would love to hear you react to is John Denver's Poems, Prayers, and Promises.
I think you’re a fine young man who has obviously been raised well to have a good head and heart. I don’t want my kids to move out unless they want to. You take care of your fine Mom and God bless y’all.
You got it pretty straight. My recollection of Randy Travis was that he climbed the top of the charts pretty rapidly early in his career and had many very popular songs but he was only around for like 8-10 years and then moved more in to Christian/Gospel music. He has a very distinct lower range voice and I love it every time I hear one of his songs.
Right after he put out Three Wooden Crosses, he announced he was putting out a gospel album. I lost track after that. I had a good 10-15 years where music wasn't really part of life, because my autistic sister flipped if I played music.
I love this song. Every time I hear it I think of my own granddaddy,. If any human could walk on water it was him. He wore those starched shirts and a old brown hat every day of his life. A man of few words but Lord you know he loved you.
Love this song. I never had a grandfather that I remember. Gone to soon. This song makes me miss what it could have been like. Just from the stories I've been told.
At 5:25 you talk about how he sounds like he was more on the Christian gospel side of sound...and back in the day, country music was, in general, old school country, akin to Christian music in a general sense...and he came came from that era. I saw him in concert once and you could feel the Lord there with everyone. What an amazing human being! 💗
I subscribed to you because of your belief and outspoken words about God. I found you doing a reaction to Randy Promises reaction... Keep doing what you do brother... Love you.
Love Randy Travis. I hate he had a stroke and can't sing anymore. I loved his voice. Hearing this brings tears to my eyes.
Why? Randy Travis was on TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL a few times and a bunch of different tv movies. He's such a talented, wholesome man.
This is definitely about my grandpa. Love it
💓
Such a great voice. He has so many good songs that never got air time.
This song did great on the Country charts. A great singer!
When Randy Travis sings this song, I start crying..The words are powerful ..

I wish country music would come back to this greatness. The 90’s were some of the best artists and songs of country music.
This was one of my Grandmother favorite. After she started listening to Country Music because of me.
Love it me too
If you haven't ventured any further than that song, do yourself a favor and look up some more Randy Travis. He is a treasure. God bless you.

Yes! This song and One Wing In The Fire makes me think of my Daddy. No better songs that fit him, to me. I'd love to see that reaction.
You are SO right when you say Randy has a one of a kind voice! Could listen to him all day, one of the best!!!!
Randy Travis has a beautiful voice. I agree with you about his voice. He's one of a kind. Great song. Have a blessed day.
I appreciate that
Randy was a bad boy in his young life.
I have always liked that little tremble in some of his notes,
I found your channal yesterday... Drained my battery twice on your videos.... Loving it... Keep up the great work..... Randy is the shit
Randy Travis - "The Box" great song. Thanks man. He was on Touched by an Angel. And Matlock a few times. And some movies too
This was for his great grandfather and I have the exact same memories about mine.
Keep up the good work👍🏻 Bless you
I wish - pray - that Randy may fully recover.
Randy travis has one of those traditional country voices that is so soothing to me. Whisper my name is probably my favorite. He has a lot of country christian music. And yeah had some good acting chops too. From black dog to texas rangers and even a Christmas episode of touched by an angel
OH, I LOVE RANDY TRAVIS GOSPEL SONG, "THROUGH THE FIRE "
" I'M GOING TO RAISE HIM UP "
CAPS BAD EYESIGHT
He signed a guitar i had back in '93. I sold it when times got rough. Now i am sick to my heart.
FOR ME This era ( Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, Terry Clark, George Straight, Allen Jackson, Brooks and Dunn ..... ) Was the BEST ERA in Country Music.
Todd, you do a great job with your videos. And your message is humble and true. Thank you!
Something about his voice just soothes me.
Travis is an alcoholic and God protects the weak . Met him in 1984 in Wisconsin . Nice guy and his whole band signed my wallet . God bless you Randy .
Love Randy..
digging up bones
This is my favorite Randy Travis song.
Dude, you're great at this! You should have a monthly top 10,or weekly top 5.Ppl LOVE THAT!
Haha ! Love Kane. 😊
I am pretty new to your channel, so not sure what has been requested and done already, but I want to put Angels Among Us out here by Alabama.
Pictures by them always makes me tear up when it mentions "the last one that we ever took of Daddy ..."
Great job !
Deb Alexander I would love him to react to Angels Among Us by Alabama
Randy Travis was more of a country singer than any other genre. He did sing some gospel songs but mainly country.
Two movies I know he was in was National Treasure 2 as himself and Black Dog with Patrick Swayze. My favorite country music artist.
He was on a couple of episodes of Touched by an Angel that's where you might have seen him.
I subscribed to you because of your belief and outspoken words about God. I found you doing a reaction to Randy Promises reaction... Keep doing what you do brother... Love you.
Randy Travis did a few bit parts in movies like "Fire Down Below" with Steven Segall, plus he did quite a few episodes of "Touched By An Angel"
I loved his song rocking years
Great voice and made a lot of great songs.
